Abstract

In a process for screen cooling a furnace which recycles part of the cooling air, that part of the air which is not used in the furnace is passed through a heat exchanger, brought to a convenient temp. and recycled through the cooler. The total recirculation of the part of the air not used for combustion avoids the need to eliminate dust if it were exhausted to atmosphere. The invention is particularly applicable to a rotary cement kiln and the agglomeration of other minerals. Preferably a portion of the cooling air which has passed through the coolest part of the cooler is recycled to the hottest part and introduced together with fresh air, the two streams being directed towards the furnace. Air travelling the middle of the cooler is passed through a heat exchanger and recycled. The exchanger may use external air and/or refrigerating liquids.
