Abstract

1503159 Cement manufacturing plant; preheating and cooling charges FIVES-CAIL BABCOCK 29 July 1975 [1 Aug 1974 11 June 1975] 31752/75 Heading F4B In a plant for the manufacture of cement, comprising a preheater 14, a precalcination furnace 12, a kiln 10 and a cooler 16, the hot air from the cooler 16 is used to provide secondary air for the kiln and to heat combustion air for the precalcination chamber in an indirect heat exchanger. Hot air from the cooler may be passed through a dust extractor 26, and the hot circuits of heat exchangers 22, 24 before being returned by a fan 20 through the cold circuit of exchanger 22 to the precalcination chamber, Fig. 1. In another embodiment, the air from the cooler is returned to the cooler, and fresh air, heated in an exchanger by the hot air from the cooler, is fed to the precalciner. In a third arrangement, the hot air from the cooler passes through a dust extractor 26, the hot side of heat exchanger 22, and a preheating cyclone 36 with part of the raw meal before being driven by fan 20 through the hot side of exchanger 22 to the precalciner 12, Fig. 2. The hot air from the cooler may be cooled by passage through a waste heat boiler, or by a water spray after the hot circuit of a heat exchanger before reaching a fan which feeds it to the precalciner through the cold circuit of the heat exchanger. The cooling of the part of the hot air from the cooler not required in the kiln enables it to be passed through a fan so that the proportion flowing to the kiln and the calciner may be more readily controlled.
