Abstract

The winding device utilizes a spinning flyer, and roving is fed to the device via a guide, pref. a converging funnel, which has an aperture sufficient to allow tensioned roving to pass but insufficient to allow untensioned roving to pass. Pref. the funnel is carried on a counter balanced pivotal arm, so that if a break occurs the roving piles up in the funnel and causes the arm to pivot thereby operating a switch to de-actuate the device. The funnel doesn't exert a large force on the roving which may cause a roving break, and the stop-motion acts rapidly.
