Abstract

Prepn. contain a compound (or one of its salts) of formula: (in which R1, R2, R3 and R4 are H, subst. or unsubst. hydrocarbon (alkyl or aryl) gps. or amino gps. and, in addition R1 and R2 with their neighbouring N atom form a heterocyclic gp. Q is either an amino gp. of the formula: NR5R6, in which R5 and R6 are as R1 and R2 above, or an imino gp. of the formula: N=CR7R8, in which R7 and R8 are H, subst. or unsubst. hydrocarbon gps. (alkyl or aryl) or heterocyclic gps.). Many variants of this class of compound have been prepared but two of the most effective anti-virus agents are: (CH3)2N-C(:NH)NHNH2 and CH3NHC(:NH)NHNH2. These cpds. can be used in the form of solutions, emulsions, dispersions, sprays, dusts, etc. with suitable inert diluents or carriers. Pot tests on tomato, cucumber, tobacco and cane sugar plants impregnated with common plant viruses showed cpds. (A) and (B) to be highly effective.
