Abstract
1292094 Methyl - L - aspartyl - L - α - phenylglycinate RHONE-POULENC SA 19 April 1971 [22 Jan 1970] 20216/71 Heading C2C The invention comprises methyl-L-aspartyl- L-α-phenylglycinate of the formula and acid addition and metal salts thereof. They may be prepared by reacting methyl L-α- phenylglycinate, or an addition salt thereof, with a derivative of L-aspartic acid of the general formula wherein Z represents a group protecting the amino radical, B represents a benzyl or t.-butyl radical, and A represents a hydrogen atom, a 2,4,5 - trichlorophenyl or p - nitrophenyl group or an alkoxy carbonyl group containing 2 to 7 carbon atoms, and removing from the resulting intermediate the protecting groups Z and B. The group Z may be trityl, p-nitrobenzyloxycarbonyl, p - bromobenzyloxycarbonyl or benzyloxycarbonyl or a C 2 to C 7 alkoxycarbonyl group. The methyl-L-aspartyl-L-α- phenylglycinate or its non-toxic acid addition salts may be used as sweetening agents.
