Abstract

A cylindrical drying chamber (1), a vacuum pump (2) and a heating unit (3) are provided. The chamber is divided into a number of compartments by stainless steel panels with slots to provide a transverse flow of air across the path of items to be dried. - A carriage (20) is arranged to convey a stack of wood (19) in through an end door (28) into the drying chamber. A control system is sensitive to wet and dry thermometers (18,16) which determine the humidity within the chamber. A motorised valve (4) connects the chamber to a fan (6) which is also connected to a heater (7).
