Abstract
In this method, the pressure head (56) of molten metal (2) is measured continuously, via a bottom opening (3) in a tank (1), by weighing. The measured values are used to produce pulses, the frequency of which is proportional to their square root, with the result that the frequency is proportional to the outflow rate. The pulses are counted. When a predetermined count has been reached, the bottom opening (3) is closed by means of a plug (4). The riser level of the filled mould is measured during the pouring of the next mould and, if deviations from a predetermined level are detected, the predetermined count for the filling of the subsequent moulds is corrected. This method allows short cycle times and precise metering of the quantity of metal. It is, in particular, suitable for the filling of casting moulds having a top runner.
