A process for the preparation of 10, 11-dihydro-3-carboxypendroheptadine and its N-oxide of formula: ** (see formula) ** Or pharmaceutically acceptable salts or their esters or amides, whose process consists of: A) treat 3-bromo-l0, ll-dihydrociproheptadine with cuprous cyanide, B) hydrolyzing the resulting 3-cyano-10,11-dihydrociproheptadine; C) and, optionally, treating 10,11-dihydro-3-carboxygreroheptadine with an oxidizing agent to obtain the N-oxide, and its non-toxic and pharmaceutically acceptable salts; esters and amides.
