Abstract
A method of manufacturing a catalyst comprising: (a) mixing and peptizing, to form an extrudable paste, a compound of a Group VIB metal, a compound of a Group VIII metal and a finely divided refractory inorganic oxide, said compounds providing approximately 60 to 90% of the Group VIB and VIII components of the finished catalyst; (b) extruding said paste and drying and calcining the extruded part; (c) impregnating the calcined extrudate with a Group VIB metal compound and a Group VIII metal compound, to provide a final catalyst containing, on elemental basis, from about 4 to 30% by weight of Group VIB metal, and from about 1 to 10% by weight of Group VIII metal; and (d) drying and calcining the impregnated extruded part, in an oxidizing atmosphere.
