Abstract
Procedure for preparing N- (1-alken-1-yl) -amino-s-triazine herbicidal compounds of the formula wherein R1 is alkyl or alkoxyalkyl having a maximum of 8 carbon atoms; R2 is alkyl having a maximum of 8 carbon atoms; R3 is 5-to-7-carbon 1-cycloalken-1-yl, a 1-cycloalken-1-yl lower alkyl or substituted lower alkoxy group, or a group (see formula) where R4 is alkyl of a maximum of 2 carbon atoms; R5 is alkyl of a maximum of 4 carbon atoms comprising reacting substantially equimolar amounts of an N-alkyl -N-alkylidenamine of the formula **(See formula)** wherein R2, R3 and R4 are as defined above and R6 is a cycloalkylidene group, with cyanuric chloride in an inert organic solvent, at an initial temperature on the -25ºC scale. at 30ºC. and final conditions of 80º to 100º to form a 2,6-dichloro-4- [N-alkyl-N- (1-alken-1-yl) -amino] -s-triazine of the formula **(See formula)** wherein R2 and R3 are as previously described; reacting the latter with an alkylamine of the formula R1NH2, wherein R1 is as described above, at a temperature on the scale of 10ºC to 45ºC to form 2-alkylamino-4- [N-alkyl-N- (1-alkene -1-yl) -amino] -6-chloro-s-triazine of the formula **(See formula)** where R1, R2 and R3 are as previously described.
