Abstract

The specification describes a refrigeration system which is substantially the same as that described with reference to Figs. 1 to 4 of Specification 1,112,661, except that a line is provided for conveying refrigerant vapour from the top of the refrigerant condenser into the steam supply line for the steam condenser under the control of a valve. When the valve is opened the steam condenser is rendered inoperative and its pressure rises sufficiently to stop operation of the turbo-compressor. The valve may be opened in response to failure in the supply of lubricating water to the turbo-compressor bearings, over-speed of the turbo-compressor or excessively low evaporator temperature. The valve is solenoid operated and arranged so that it opens in the event of an electrical supply failure.
