Abstract

A resilient rail fastening A has two substantially parallel rods 1 connected through two half loops 4 to a transverse bar 3. The bar 3 is bowed such that when the fastening is driven into holes in the sleeper T, the bar straightens to provide maximum bearing on the rail flange. In an embodiment for concrete sleepers, Fig. 6, the holes 7a are inclined and have reinforced rod bearings 9a such that the rods 1 are gripped in the sleeper with bent ends 6a interlocked. A tie of metal or insulation 10 may secure the fastening. The holes 7a may incline transversly to the rail centre line and the fastening may be wholly or partly covered with insulation means. The holes in the sleeper may be perpendicular to the surface and the rods inclined over part of this length. In another embodiment, Fig. 10, the rods 1 are of thicker section than the bar 3 which is welded or otherwise fastened thereto. In a further modification, Fig. 12, the rods 1 have recesses 17 for the reception of out-turned ends 16 of the half loops 4 which are sprung into position after the rail is positioned. The ends of the rods, which may be other than circular in section, may be flattened, conical or split. The rods and bar may be in non-metallic material for insulation purposes.
