Description
0. VALERI.
RAILWAY TIE.
APPLICATION FILED DEC, 5. 1919.
Patented Dec. 14, 1920.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OLINDO VALERI, OF ROME, ITALY.
RAILWAY-TIE.
Application filed December 5, 1919.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OLINDO VALERI, a subject of the King of Italy, and residing at 22 Lungotevere Prati, Rome, Italy, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Railway-Ties, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to railway ties and has for its object to provide a construction which is apt to maintain the level and the gage of the track.
In the drawing Figure 1 shows a part of a railway track in accordance with the invention,
Fig. 2 is a cross section,
Fig. 3 a longitudinal section and Fig. 41- a plan view of a block on which the rail is fastened.
1 are blocks of reinforced concrete 2 are rods intended to maintain the level and the gage of the track, 3 are rails, 4 are holes for fastening the rods 2, these holes having a larger diameter than the rods 2 so as to permit the gage being easily regulated, 4: are holes for anchoring the rails on the blocks 5 are bends of the rod 2 which end each in a hook 6 within the concrete block.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 14, 1920.
Serial No. 342,791.
7 is a support of wood or like material interposed between the block and the rail.
The axis of the blocks does not coincide with the axis of the rails, but is slightly displaced toward the outside, so that the thrust produced by the trains which tends to push over the rail and the blocks, is neutralized.
What I claim is:
A sub-structure for railway tracks comprising'a block of reinforced concrete arranged beneath each rail with the longitudinal center of the block outwardly beyond the longitudinal center of the rail, wooden supports arranged on said blocks and directly receiving the rails, and rods extending transversely of the rails, between the rails andblocks, and having down turned ends to enter enlarged openings in the blocks, the rodsbeing wholly free of contact with the rails.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses this 12th day of November 1919.
OLINDO VALERI.
