PatentedDec. 13,r 1932 UNITED STATES ARTHUR C. STRICKLER, OF' LONG BEACH, CALIFORNIA CONCRETE REENFORCING STEEL TIE Application led December 22, 1930. Serial No. 504,111.
This invention relates to a tie for reenforcing rods of concrete work, the general object of the invention being to provide means whereby a pair of rods can be easily and quickly tied together and in a firm manner.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view showing two rods tied together by the device.
Figure 2 is a view of the device, with the same in open condition.
Figure 3 is a section on line 3 8 of Figure 2.
As shown in these views, the device consists of a metal plate 1 bent to fo-rm loops 2 at o-pposite sides thereof, with the edges of the plate overlapping, and a pair of U shaped wires 4, each of which has its bight passing through a loop. Thus the wires are hingedly connected with the plate and in using the device, the plate is placed against one of the rods A, with the wires extending alongside the rod and alongside the cross rod, with the ends of the limbs of each wire twisted together, as shown in Figure l. Thus the two rods are firmly connected together by the device.
The plate l can be nailed to a part of the form when desired so that the diiicult task of twisting the wire around a nail and then wrapping the wire around the steel, as is now done, is eliminated by this invention. The invention also does away with the necessity of carrying a roll of wire to provide wire to fasten the rods together, as the devices can be carried in nail aprons and the like. The devices are to be made in sizes to fit the different sizes of rods used for reenforcing concrete.
The invention saves time and labor and also material, as much wire is wasted in cutting under the old method.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel 'features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combinationk and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
lVhat I claim is The combination with crossed bars, of a tie comprising a sheet metal body adapted to straddle one of the bars at the crossing point thereof and having a loop at each end, and substantially U-shaped wires, one loosely engaged in each loop and adapted to straddle the other bar with `the ends twisted together to embrace said straddled bar.
In testimony whereof I aiX my signature.
ARTHUR o. STRI'CKLER.
