Abstract
A process for the manufacture of benzodiazepine derivatives of the general formula ** (See formula) ** wherein R1 represents hydrogen or methyl, and their acid addition salts, which process comprises: a) reacting a benzophenone of the general formula ** (See formula) ** where R2 represents hydrogen or nitro and R1 has the meaning set forth above, with glycine or with a glycine ester, or b) reacting said benzophenone with haloacetyl halide and treating the 2-haloacetamido-benzophenone obtained with ammonia, after which the compound produced according to any one of the above reaction sequences is nitrated, if necessary, and/or methylated, and if desired, transformed into an acid addition salt.
