Abstract

<PICT:0705605/IV (a)/1> <PICT:0705605/IV (a)/2> In an apparatus for dry spinning fibres of cellulose esters or ethers, at least half of each spinning cell depends into a supply trunk for the heated evaporation atmosphere, and a connection is provided between the spinning cells and a common return trunk for returning the waste gases. As shown, in each of two supply trunks 7 is arranged a row of eight spinning cells 1, the fibres being extruded through jets 2 and being collected for subsequent processing through slots in doors 3. The trunks 7 are separated by a conduit 4 housing two heaters 5, the evaporative atmosphere being drawn by a fan 6 and divided into two streams, each stream passing over a heater 5 and entering the supply trunks 7. The bottom of each cell protrudes into a compartment 13 which opens into a common return trunk 8 through vents 16. The heated gases in the supply trunks 7 pass into the compartment 13 through annular spaces 12 surrounding the cells 1 and part of the gases is drawn through the vents 16 for recirculation, the other part being continuously drawn off through the cells 1 and pipes 9 to a pipe 10 leading to a solvent recovery plant. Fresh gas may be supplied through ports 11. Adjustable baffles may be fitted to the cells 1 for throttling the air passing through the annular space 12, and holes may be provided in the cells 1 to allow direct access of the gases from the trunk 7 into the cells.
