Abstract

The invention relates to a device for adjusting the distance between a tractor and a trailer in dependence on changes in direction between the tractor and trailer which are caused by cornering or by a change in the slope of the carriageway. In order to maintain an optimum distance between the lorry and trailer under all driving conditions, there is provided a sensor arrangement (4, 5, 6, 15) for detecting the distance between the tractor and trailer when cornering and when the slope of the carriageway changes, which sensor arrangement cooperates with corresponding screens or activators (7) and triggers a pneumatic cylinder (23). The trailer coupling device (1) is connected via a slide (18) to the piston (24) of the pneumatic cylinder so that the coupling point between the trailer and tractor can be shifted in the longitudinal direction on the tractor as a function of the pneumatic cylinder being triggered. The invention can be used in the construction of motor vehicles.
