Definitions
- the invention relates to a process for the cryogenic separation of air and an air separation plant adapted to carry out such a process.
- the distillation column systems are operated at different operating pressures in their respective separation columns.
- the double column systems in this case have a so-called high-pressure column and a so-called low-pressure column.
- the operating pressure of the high-pressure column is, for example, 4.3 to 6.9 bar, preferably about 5.0 bar.
- the low-pressure column is operated at an operating pressure of, for example, 1.3 to 1.7 bar, preferably about 1.5 bar.
- the pressures given here and below are absolute pressures.
- Corresponding air separation plants can be operated for example with so-called internal compression.
- a liquid stream is taken from the distillation column system and at least partially brought to liquid pressure.
- the liquid brought to pressure is heated in a main heat exchanger of the air separation plant against a heat transfer medium and evaporated.
- the liquid stream may in particular be liquid oxygen, but also nitrogen or argon.
- the internal compression is thus used to obtain appropriate gaseous printed products.
- the term "evaporation" includes in the internal compression cases in which there is a supercritical pressure and therefore no phase transition takes place in the true sense.
- the liquid pressurized stream is then "pseudo-evaporated".
- a heat transfer medium is liquefied (or pseudo-liquefied if it is under supercritical pressure) against a corresponding (pseudo) vaporising stream.
- the heat carrier is usually formed by a part of the air separation plant supplied air.
- HAP high-air pressure
- HAP process which is used in a double column system
- the total, the air separation plant supplied or used in a corresponding method total air (referred to here as total amount of air) is compressed in a main compressor to a pressure well above the operating pressure of the High pressure column is located.
- the pressure difference is at least 4 bar and preferably between 6 and 16 bar.
- the compressed air quantity in the main compressor can be decoupled from the process air quantity. In such a case, only a portion of the compressed to the said pressure total amount of air is used as so-called process air, so used for the actual rectification and fed into the high-pressure column.
- process air so used for the actual rectification and fed into the high-pressure column.
- decoupling is not provided in all HAP methods.
- HAP methods are for example from EP 2 466 236 A1 , of the EP 2 458 311 A1 and the US 5,329,776 A known.
- the proportion of the total amount of air that is fed into the high-pressure column (referred to herein as the "first" portion of the total amount of air), initially as a so-called turbine stream optionally in at least one booster to a further higher pressure (referred to here as Nachverêtrdruck) and subsequently successively in cooled in the main heat exchanger of the air separation plant, expanded in a first expansion machine and fed into the high-pressure column.
- the relaxation in the first expansion machine is carried out on the operating pressure of the high pressure column or a slightly higher pressure, which is referred to here as "first turbine outlet pressure".
- the first expansion machine is also referred to as "cold" relaxation machine according to their inlet temperature.
- second proportion of the total amount of air can be subjected to the same steps as the first portion of the total amount of air and thus also be part of the turbine flow except for the feed into the high pressure column.
- the second portion can already be branched off directly downstream of the main compressor and optionally also be recompressed separately.
- the second portion is cooled in the main heat exchanger and thus as Heat transfer medium used to evaporate the stream brought to liquid pressure.
- the second portion of the total amount of air is not fed to the high pressure column, but ultimately depressurized to a pressure lower than the operating pressure of the high pressure column, such as atmospheric pressure or the operating pressure of the low pressure column, referred to herein as "second turbine outlet pressure".
- the expansion first takes place in the first expansion machine to the first turbine outlet pressure.
- the second portion of the total amount of air is then further relaxed, for example in a second expansion machine. This is referred to according to their inlet temperature as a "warm" relaxation machine.
- An even further proportion of the total amount of air (referred to herein as the "third" proportion of the total amount of air) is also optionally recompressed as so-called throttle flow and cooled in the main heat exchanger.
- this third fraction is then subsequently expanded to the first or a comparable pressure via an expansion valve and fed into the distillation column system.
- the feed is for example also in the high pressure column.
- the used (n) expansion machine (s) is or are coupled with the or the additional compressors, which are optionally used for densification.
- the recompression of the first to third portions of the total amount of air can be done separately or together.
- the present invention is based on the resulting during operation of an air separation plant explained above optimized Q, t-profile, which in the FIG. 3 shown and explained in more detail in the description of the figures.
- Q, t-profile very cold inlet temperatures occur on the first ("cold") expansion machine. It has been found that these may even lead to fluid formation in the turbine gap of a corresponding expansion machine. This was inventively recognized as a disadvantage of existing methods and can be avoided by the measures proposed here without loss of efficiency.
- expansion machine basically includes any machine for work-performing expansion of a process stream.
- the expansion machines in the present invention are formed by the turboexpander or expansion turbines known in principle from the field of cryotechnology.
- a turboexpander has at least one expansion stage with an impeller, a stator and a turbine disposed between the impeller and the stator turbine gap, such as in FIG. 5 is illustrated.
- the “turbine gap” designates the gap that lies radially outside the impeller or between the impeller and the stator in a turboexpander.
- the formation of liquid in or after a flattening machine depends essentially on three factors, namely the inlet temperature, the inlet pressure and the outlet pressure.
- the inlet temperature can be increased.
- a reduction of the inlet pressure and / or an increase of the outlet pressure can take place.
- the discharge pressure is coupled to the operating pressure of the high-pressure column.
- the total amount of air that is provided by the main compressor first passed through a first booster and then through a second booster, which are arranged in series.
- the booster are each coupled with relaxation machines and are driven by them.
- the pressure increase by the booster results from each of the performance of the expansion machines.
- the performance of the expansion machines in turn is coupled with the refrigeration demand of the air separation plant and thus hardly changeable. This will also be illustrated in connection with the attached figures.
- the inlet pressure into the first ("cold") expansion machine is essentially fixed because a defined pressure difference to the (as specified above at the operating pressure of the high pressure column) outlet pressure for a fixed pressure increase in the first Recuperator is needed.
- the only way to influence the formation of liquid in or after the first ("cold") expansion machine therefore, remains in conventional systems, the change in the inlet temperature.
- the present invention proposes to overcome the above drawbacks a method of recovering air products by cryogenic separation of air in a distillation column system of an air separation plant having a high pressure column and a low pressure column.
- a total amount of air used in the process in a main compressor is compressed to a main compressor pressure that is at least 4 bar higher than an operating pressure at which the high-pressure column is operated.
- At least a first and a second portion of the total amount of air are cooled together as a turbine stream successively in a main heat exchanger and expanded in a first ("cold") expansion machine to a first turbine outlet pressure.
- the first portion is then fed into the high-pressure column and the second portion is then heated in the main heat exchanger and further expanded in a second expansion machine to a second turbine outlet pressure.
- a turboexpander having at least one expansion stage with an impeller, a stator and a turbine nip arranged between the impeller and the stator is used as the first expansion machine.
- the turbine stream (which is formed at least by the first and the second portions of the total amount of air) is supplied to the first expansion machine completely in a gaseous state and at a pressure and a temperature which cause the turbine stream in the turbine nip to be 85 mole percent or more remains in the gaseous state.
- the turbine stream in the turbine gap preferably remains at 90, 95, 99, 99.5 or 99.9 mol% or more, in particular completely, in the gaseous state.
- the first turbine outlet pressure corresponds to the operating pressure of the high-pressure column or is slightly higher than this (with the "slight” pressure difference of eg at most 0.05 or 0.1 bar, for example, line losses are compensated).
- the second turbine outlet pressure corresponds for example to atmospheric pressure or the pressure of the low-pressure column or is "slightly" higher in a corresponding sense.
- the pressure with which the total amount of air is provided is substantially higher than the operating pressure of the high-pressure column.
- substantially higher is understood to mean a pressure difference of at least 4 bar and preferably between 6 and 16 bar.
- a “main compressor” is in the context of the present invention, the compressor or the compressor assembly, which is the only driven with external energy machine for the compression of air in the air separation plant.
- the term “single machine” is understood here to mean a single-stage or multi-stage compressor whose stages are all connected to the same drive, wherein all stages can be accommodated in a housing or connected to a transmission.
- the re-compressors are not among the driven by external energy machines, as they are, as mentioned, driven by their respective associated relaxation machines (turboexpander).
- the "main heat exchanger” can be formed from one or more parallel and / or serially connected heat exchanger sections, for example from one or more plate heat exchanger blocks.
- a main heat exchanger is used to cool the proportions of the total amount of air in the indirect heat exchange with return streams from the distillation column system or for evaporation or pseudo-vaporization in the internal compression.
- a third portion of the total amount of air is subsequently recompressed as a throttle flow in a first after-compressor, cooled in the main heat exchanger, expanded in an expansion valve and fed into the high-pressure column.
- the first and the second portion of the total amount of air, which form the turbine stream are recompressed before cooling in the main heat exchanger in a second after-compressor.
- the first and the second booster are thus arranged in parallel, the distribution of the total amount of air in the turbine flow and the throttle flow already occurs before the recompression.
- the first after-compressor is coupled to the first expansion machine and the second after-compressor is coupled to the second expansion machine and driven accordingly. It is also possible to mechanically couple and drive the first after-compressor with the second expansion machine and the second after-compressor with the first expansion machine.
- the invention allows in this advantageous embodiment, the increase in the inlet temperature in the first ("cold") expansion machine without significant loss of efficiency, because the first and the second booster are decoupled from each other. This is made possible by dividing the compressed to the main compressor pressure total amount of air already upstream of the booster. If one chooses the method proposed according to the invention, a lower inlet pressure is obtained, but it is also possible to set an increased inlet temperature into the first ("cold") expansion machine. The latter is due to a shift of the optimal Q, t-profile.
- the invention thus advantageously provides for no longer compressing the total amount of air in both after-compressors (that is, arranged serially one behind the other), but instead performing the recompression in parallel. This makes it possible to individually adapt the respective compressor capacity (and thus the conditions for the expansion machines assigned to the compressors).
- the method advantageously comprises selecting the pressure and the temperature at which the turbine flow is fed to the first expansion machine such that after the expansion to the first turbine outlet pressure in the first expansion machine, a proportion of the turbine stream of 0 mole percent to 15 mole percent, in particular 1 mole percent to 15 mole percent or more is liquefied. This allows a particularly favorable feed of the first portion of the total amount of air in the high-pressure column. The first expansion machine can thus make a substantial relaxation without loss of efficiency.
- a speed of the turbine flow in the stator is increased from an initial value to an intermediate value, whereby a pressure of the turbine flow in the stator is reduced from an initial value to an intermediate value.
- a temperature to which the turbine flow in the main heat exchanger is cooled is thereby selected at least as a function of a difference between the initial value and the intermediate value of the speed and / or the pressure.
- the corresponding values are known and / or can be derived from parameters of the turboexpander, so that correspondingly reliable values can be reliably set.
- the temperature at which the turbine flow is cooled in the main heat exchanger is selected so that at the intermediate value of the pressure of the turbine flow, a dew temperature of the turbine flow or a component thereof is not exceeded.
- the present process may comprise withdrawing from the distillation column system at least one liquid stream which is liquidly pressurized and vaporized in the main heat exchanger to a gaseous pressure product.
- the present method is thus suitable for the internal compaction explained in the introduction.
- a liquid stream for example, liquid nitrogen and / or liquid oxygen can be removed.
- the method is also suitable for obtaining at least one noble gas product, in particular argon, krypton and / or xenon.
- the air separation plant according to the invention is set up to carry out the method explained above and has appropriately designed means.
- For the features and advantages of the air separation plant according to the invention is expressly made to the above explanations.
- such an air separation plant has means which are set up to determine and / or adjust at least the pressure and / or the temperature of the turbine flow and / or a liquid fraction at an exit of the first expansion machine. This is done e.g. as part of an automatic control or regulation.
- FIG. 1 a non-inventive air separation plant is shown schematically in the form of an installation diagram.
- the air separation plant set up for internal compression is designated 110 overall.
- the invention is also suitable for use in air separation plants without internal compression.
- a total amount of air atmospheric air (AIR) is sucked through a filter 1 from a main compressor 2 and there compressed to a main compressor pressure, which is at least 4 bar higher than the operating pressure of a high-pressure column in a HAP process, as used here (see below).
- a cleaning device 5 which has a pair of containers filled with adsorption material, preferably molecular sieve.
- the correspondingly cleaned air leaves the cleaning device 5 as stream a.
- the stream a is recompressed in the air separation plant 110 in a conventional manner, first in a first after-compressor 11 and then in a second after-compressor 21.
- the first after-compressor 11 and the second after-compressor 21 are each mechanically coupled to a first expansion machine 12 or a second expansion machine 22, for example each via a common shaft. Downstream of the first after-compressor 11 and the second after-compressor 21, aftercoolers 13 and 23 are respectively arranged. Downstream of the second after-compressor 21 and the after-cooler 23, the flow a is split into a first partial flow b and into a second partial flow c.
- the current b is called the turbine current, the current c as the inductor current.
- the turbine flow b and the throttle flow c are cooled in a main heat exchanger 6.
- the cooling is preferably carried out at different temperatures, so that the turbine stream b is removed from the main heat exchanger 6 at an intermediate temperature and thus "partially cooled” and the inductor current c passes through the main heat exchanger 6 to its cold end.
- the first turbine outlet pressure is slightly above an operating pressure of a high-pressure column 71 of a distillation column system 7, which will be explained in more detail below, or corresponds to this operating pressure.
- the still designated b and relaxed to the intermediate pressure turbine flow is fed to a separator 8, from the bottom of a liquid fraction as a Stream d can be deducted.
- the stream d can be fed into a low-pressure column 72 of the distillation column system 7 (see junction point A).
- a gaseous fraction from the head of the separator 8 can be withdrawn as stream e and divided into a first partial flow f and a second partial flow g.
- the first substream f (the "first fraction" of the total amount of air) is fed to the high-pressure column 71 of the distillation column system 7, as explained in more detail below.
- the second partial flow g (the "second portion" of the total amount of air) is partially heated in the main heat exchanger 6 in the above sense and in the second expansion machine 22 to a second turbine outlet pressure, for example, atmospheric pressure or the pressure of the low pressure column 72 (see below), relaxed.
- the second partial stream g which is further expanded to the second turbine outlet pressure, can then be further heated in the main heat exchanger 6 and combined with further streams, at least partially blown off into the atmosphere (ATM) and / or fed to an evaporative cooler.
- the throttling flow c After passing through the main heat exchanger 6, the throttling flow c is decompressed via an expansion valve 9 and also fed at the appropriate pressure into the high-pressure column 71 of the distillation column system 7.
- the distillation column system 7 is a distillation column system 7 with a classical Linde double column which comprises the high-pressure column 71 and the low-pressure column 72 as a structural unit.
- the use of the invention in distillation column systems 7 is possible in which a high pressure column and a low pressure column are arranged separately.
- the high-pressure column 71 and the low-pressure column 72 are connected to one another in a heat-exchanging manner via a main condenser 73.
- the operating or separation pressures - in each case at the top - are for example 4.5 to 6.5 bar, preferably about 5.0 bar in the high pressure column and 1.2 to 1.7 bar, preferably about 1.3 bar in the low pressure column ,
- a divided crude argon column 74, 75 and a pure argon column 76 are also provided, but the invention can also be used in plants without corresponding argon recovery.
- Liquid raw oxygen is withdrawn as stream h from the bottom of the high-pressure column 71, subcooled in a subcooling countercurrent 77 and further cooled to a part in a bottom evaporator 78 of the pure argon column 76. Another part can be routed past the bottom evaporator 78. If no argon production is provided, the stream h can also be transferred directly to an intermediate point into the low-pressure column 72.
- the raw oxygen of the stream h flows into the evaporation space of a top condenser of the crude argon column 75, another part in the evaporation space of a top condenser of the pure argon column 76.
- the vaporized in the top condensers on the one hand and on the other hand remaining liquid fraction of the crude oxygen is the low pressure column 72 in the form of Currents i and j supplied at suitable intermediate points.
- the raw oxygen of stream h can also be fed directly to these or corresponding intermediate sites.
- Gaseous nitrogen from the top of the high-pressure column 71 is passed to a first part as a current k to the cold end of the main heat exchanger 6, there warmed to about ambient temperature and can be used as a sealing gas (seal gas, SG) for the compressors used in the plant.
- a sealing gas seal gas, SG
- the remaining gaseous nitrogen from the top of the high-pressure column 71 is fed as stream I to the main condenser 73 where it is at least partially condensed.
- the liquid nitrogen produced in this process can be partly supplied as reflux to the high-pressure column 71.
- Another part is supplied as stream m to the subcooling countercurrent 77 where it is subcooled and passed to the top of the low pressure column 72.
- There, a portion may be withdrawn as stream n to provide a liquid nitrogen product (LIN).
- the liquid nitrogen product may for example be stored in a tank.
- gaseous oxygen can be withdrawn as stream o and, optionally, combined with a stream p (impure nitrogen), which is also taken from the low-pressure column 72 and heated in the subcooling countercurrent 77, in a main heat exchanger 6 to be warmed up.
- stream p pure nitrogen
- a liquid oxygen stream q from the bottom of the low-pressure column 72 can be pressure-increased by means of a pump 79 and at least partially supercooled as stream r in the subcooling countercurrent 77 and fed to a liquid tank (LOX). Another part of the pressure-increased by the pump 79 oxygen flow q from the bottom of the low-pressure column 72 can be evaporated as stream s in the main heat exchanger 6 (or pseudo-vaporized at supercritical pressure), warmed to ambient temperature and withdrawn as a gaseous pressure product (GOX-IC).
- LOX liquid tank
- Gaseous nitrogen can be withdrawn as stream t from the top of the low pressure column 72 and subcooled in the subcooler 77.
- the stream t can be externally compressed after heating in the main heat exchanger 6 in a compressor (without designation) and provided as gaseous pressure nitrogen (GAN-EC).
- an argon-containing stream u can be removed from the low-pressure column 72 and fed to the lower part 74 of the crude argon column 74, 75 directly above the sump. Bottom liquid of the lower part 74 of the crude argon column 74, 75 can be returned as stream v to the low-pressure column 72.
- the lower part 74 and the upper part 75 of the two-part crude argon column 74, 75 can be coupled to each other via lines w and x and corresponding pumps and valves (no designation).
- the crude argon column can also be formed in one piece.
- the top condensers of the upper part 75 of the crude argon column 74, 75 and the pure argon column 76 may be formed, for example, as reflux condensers or as bath condensers.
- the crude argon column 75 can in the example shown at the upper end of the return passages of the top condenser, which is shown here as a reflux condenser, taken over a side header a Rohargonstrom y gaseous and the pure argon column 76 are fed at a suitable intermediate point.
- the bottom liquid of the pure argon column 76 can be partially vaporized in the bottom evaporator 78, wherein the steam generated thereby can be used as ascending gas in the pure argon column.
- the remainder can be taken from the pure argon column as a liquid pure argon product stream z.
- the liquid pure argon (LAR) can be transferred to a tank. At least part of the pure argon can be brought to liquid pressure, evaporated in the main heat exchanger 6 and discharged as gaseous pressure product (LAR IC) (see the right chamber of the main heat exchanger 6, so-called argon internal compression).
- FIG. 2 an air separation plant according to a particularly preferred embodiment of the invention is shown schematically in the form of an installation diagram.
- the air separation plant which is also equipped for internal compression, is designated 100 overall.
- the air separation plant 100 corresponds in part to the in FIG. 1 In contrast to the air separation plant 110, however, a division of the flow a into the first and the second partial flow b and c (turbine and throttle flow) takes place upstream of the secondary compressors 11 and 21. Turbine and throttle flow are thus no longer common and serially recompressed in the secondary compressor 11 and 21, but in parallel.
- the drive of the booster can, as explained above, carried out by the expansion machines 12 and 22. This can deviate from the representation in the FIG. 2 also the first after-compressor 11 with the second expansion machine 22 and the second after-compressor 21 with the first expansion machine 12 may be coupled.
- a lower inlet pressure and a higher inlet temperature at the first (“cold") expansion machine 12 can be achieved by the measures according to the invention. The latter is due to a shift in the optimal Q, t profile, as illustrated below.
- FIG. 3 is a typical optimized Q, t-profile of an air separation unit 110 of the FIG. 1 shown.
- FIG. 4 a typical optimized Q, t-profile of an air separation plant 100 of the FIG. 2 shown.
- a quantity of heat in kW is plotted on the ordinate with respect to a temperature in K on the abscissa.
- characteristic points of the respective profiles are denoted by 301, 302 and 303 and 401, 402 and 403, respectively.
- the point 301 or 401 corresponds to the removal of the current, which is led to the first ("cold") expansion machine 12, from the heat exchanger 6.
- the point 302 or 402 corresponds to the return of the coming from the second expansion machine 22 current in the Heat exchanger 6.
- the point 302 or 402 corresponds to the removal of the current, which is passed to the second expansion machine 22, from the heat exchanger 6.
- the point 401 is at a temperature significantly above that of the point 301, which corresponds to a higher removal temperature from the first expansion machine and thus a lower liquid content due to the higher removal temperature.
- FIG. 5 is a stator and an impeller designed as a turboexpander expansion machine, for example, the expansion machine 12, shown in fragmentary and highly schematic form in the form of a view 120 of a turbine stage.
- Known turboexpanders have one or more of such turbine stages.
- An impeller, designated here at 121 has a series of impeller vanes 121 'to which fluid is passed via a nozzle 122 (with stator vanes 122'). The impeller 121 is thereby rotated. The fluid is passed through a turbine gap 123. As explained at the outset, the separation of liquid is critical especially in the turbine gap 123.
- FIG. 6 shows state changes in a stage of a corresponding relaxation machine.
- a specific entropy s is plotted on the abscissa versus a specific enthalpy h on the ordinate.
- isobaric lines are indicated in the h, s diagram corresponding to different pressure levels in the expansion machine and a stage 120, respectively.
- a pressure p0 is at the entrance of the fluid in the stator 122, so when entering the respective stage 120, a pressure p1 in the turbine gap 123 and a pressure p2 after passing through the impeller 121, ie at the exit from the stage 120 before.
- h LE is a Enthalpieabbau in the stator 122, with h LA enthalpy reduction in the impeller 121 and h ST enthalpy removal in the entire stage 120 indicated.
- the invention makes it possible due to the distribution of the feed air streams before the recompression, the turbine stream (see. FIG. 2 , Stream b) in the main heat exchanger 6 to cool to a temperature which can be selected so that at the partial relaxation of the turbine stream b in the first expansion machine 12, the air of the turbine stream b in the turbine gap (see. FIG. 5 , Reference numeral 123) hardly or preferably not liquefied at all.
- the velocity of the air in the stator 122 or the channels formed by the respective stator vanes 122 ' is increased from an initial value c0 to an intermediate value c1, whereby a pressure of the turbine stream b in the stator 122 from an initial value p0 to a Intermediate value p1 is reduced.
- the temperature to which the turbine stream b is cooled in the main heat exchanger 6 is therefore selected at least as a function of a difference between the initial value c0 or p0 and the intermediate value c1 or p1 of the speed and / or the pressure.

Description

EP 2 466 236 A1 , derEP 2 458 311 A1 und derUS 5 329 776 A bekannt.

- In
- In
- In
