Die Schliessbewegung der Ueberführungszangen 17 erfolgt zuerst entlang der dritten Steuervorrichtung 32 und anschliessend entlang der verstellbaren zweiten Steuervorrichtung 22. Claims (19)

  1. Method for turning printed products (3) transported in a stream on a conveyor path (2), which are held by an edge-region (6) in clamps (4) of a circulating first conveyor device (5), are transported in a hanging position, and, after passing through a turning section (11) on which the printed products (3) are turned over about an axis extending at right angles to the conveying direction, are grasped in an opposite edge-region (76) by clamps (14) of a second, synchronized, conveyor device (15) and transported on their way in a hanging position, characterized in that before reaching the delivery end of the first conveyor device (5) the printed products (3) are each turned over by a transfer mechanism (12) which, from the edge by which the printed products (3) are held, encroaches into the transport stream (18) in front of and behind the printed products (3) to grasp and reorientate them through an adjoining curved turning section (11) of the conveyor path (2); and then transferred, by the opposite edge-region (76) of the printed products (3) to the edge-region (6) by which they are held, into a closable clamp (14) of the second conveyor device (15) so as to be held in it in a hanging position.
  2. Method according to Claim 1, characterized in that the insertion of the printed products (3) into clamps (14) is effected before the end of the turning section (11).
  3. Method according to Claim 1 or Claim 2, characterized by a transfer mechanism (12) continuously circulating around an endless orbit, with transfer grippers (17) fitted at regular intervals and operating with a frictional or non-positive grip, and having gripping parts (19, 20) which at least on the turning section (11) are manoeuvrable along the printed products (3) to a closed position and which can be shifted to a closed position to grasp the printed products (3) with a non-positive grip, and, in the end region of the turning section (11), to an open position of the transfer grippers (17).
  4. Method according to any one of Claims 1 to 3, characterized in that, at least on the turning section (11), a transfer gripper (17) of the transfer mechanism (12) is assigned to each printed product (3).
  5. Method according to any one of Claims 1 to 4, characterized in that the transfer grippers (17) of the transfer mechanism (12) exit from the stream of printed products (3) on the same side as that on which they enter it.
  6. Method according to any one of Claims 1 to 5, characterized in that on the turning section (11) the transfer grippers (17) are shifted from the open position to the closed position to grasp the printed products (3), and the clamps (4) of the first conveyor device (5) are immediately opened to release the printed products (3) therefrom.
  7. Method according to Claim 6, characterized in that each printed product (3) has a "tail" (26) hanging from a transfer gripper (17) which is determined by the opening point of a gripper (4) and the closing point of the transfer grippers (17).
  8. Method according to any one of Claims 2 to 7, characterized in that on the conveyor path (2) of the printed products (3), the transfer grippers (17) are closed in an undershot region, and opened in an overshot region, of the turning section (11).
  9. Method according to any one of Claims 2 to 8, characterized in that the printed products are reorientatable on the turning section (11) for pickup by the transfer grippers (17) and transfer to the clamps (14) of the second conveyor device (15).
  10. Method according to any one of Claims 1 to 8, wherein the delivery end of the first conveyor device (5) is formed by a return pulley or sprocket (9) of a belt or chain (10) carrying the clamps (4), characterized in that the curved turning section (11) runs separately from, and is offset from, the return pulley or sprocket (9).
  11. Apparatus for turning printed products (3) transported in a stream on a conveyor path (2) and suspended by an edge-region (6) held in a clamp (4) of a circulating transporter consisting of a first conveyor device (5) having clamps (4) fastened at intervals one after the other in the conveying direction (F) to a traction mechanism (10) guided over a return pulley or sprocket (9), for transferring the printed products (3) into clamps (14) of a second, synchronized, conveyor device (15), with a turning section (11) which functionally links the [first] conveyor device (5) to the second conveyor device (15) and on which the printed products (3) are turned over by a transfer mechanism (12) after being grasped by the latter and led, unattached opposite edge-region (76) first, into the clamps (14) of the second conveyor device (15), characterized in that the transfer mechanism (12) comprises controlled transfer grippers (17) which rotate at regular intervals on a curviform turning section (11) on a between the delivery end of the first conveyor device (5) and the second conveyor device (15), and which, from the edge by which the printed products (3) are suspended in the clamps (4) of the first conveyor device (5), encroach into the stream of printed products (3) on the turning section (11) to grasp the printed products (3) in front and behind in the conveying direction with a frictional or non-positive grip in order to turn them over about an axis extending at right angles to the conveying direction and, after turning them, to transfer them to the clamps (14) of the second, offset conveyor device (15) for suspension by the edge-region (76).
  12. Apparatus according to Claim 11, characterized in that the transfer grippers (17) coming in register with clamps (4) of the first conveyor device (5) as they circulate around an endless orbit have gripping parts (19, 20) which can be switched on the ensuing turning section (11) from an open position to a closed position, after which they grasp the printed products (3) with a frictional and non-positive grip, which on and after the opening of the clamps (4) of the first conveyor device (5) firmly hold the printed products (3) and turn them over for transfer into the clamps (14) of the second conveyor device (15) running above the turning section (11) and approximately tangentially to the latter.
  13. Apparatus according to Claim 11 or Claim 12, characterized in that the gripping parts (19, 20) of each transfer gripper (17) encroaching into the transport stream in front of and behind a printed product (3) are governed by a control arrangement for closing and opening the transfer grippers (17) (or their gripping parts (19, 20) and for orientating the printed products (3) on the turning section (11), and also for opening and closing the clamps (4) of the first conveyor device (5) and the clamps (14) of the second conveyor device (15).
  14. Apparatus according to Claim 13, characterized in that the control arrangement has a first control device (21) intended to open the clamps (4) of the first conveyor device (5) and further control devices (22, 32) intended to open and close the transfer grippers (17) of the transfer mechanism (12).
  15. Apparatus according to Claim 14, characterized in that the control devices (21, 22, 32) are formed by radial cams or camways (28, 24, 30) by means of which the clamps (4) of the first conveyor device (5) on the one hand and the transfer grippers (17) of the transfer mechanism (12) on the other hand can be connected.
  16. Apparatus according to Claim 14 or Claim 15, characterized in that the control devices (21, 22) are designed to be adjustable.
  17. Apparatus according to any one of Claims 12 to 16, characterized in that the circulation orbit of the transfer mechanism (12) and of the transfer of grippers (17) is offset with respect to the axis (31) of the return pulley or sprocket (9) of the first conveyor device (5).
  18. Apparatus according to any one of Claims 11 to 17, characterized in that the lower strand (7) of the first conveyor device (5), which is the tight side, is driven in the opposite direction to the conveying direction (G) of the second conveyor device (15).
  19. Apparatus according to any one of Claims 11 to 18, characterized in that a closing device (79) acting on the clamps (14) of the second conveyor device (15) is arranged in the zone of proximity of the transfer grippers (17) to the said second conveyor device.
