Abstract

A packaged unit includes a cluster of products and a shrink film that secures the products to each other. The shrink film is wrapped around the cluster, thereby forming a lateral opening that would otherwise result in a shrink eye. A closure formed by placing a portion of the shrink film against the cluster at in the region of the lateral opening forms a closed surface with overlapping fold regions of the shrink film, thus avoiding the shrink eye.

Description

The invention relates to a method and a device for producing a packaging unit, according to which individual products are combined into a product formation and fixed against each other by means of a shrinkable wrapping or packaging. In such shrink packaging usually results in the side surfaces so-called shrinkage eyes, in which the shrinking film does not form a closed surface, but usually leaves at least one opening open, which adversely affects the stability of such a shrinkage packaging negatively.

A method and associated apparatus for forming shrink wrap are characterized by DE 10 2006 036 590 A1 known. Here, to form a container, the shrink film is wrapped around a bundle unit, so that each container is enclosed above and below. On two opposite sides of the shrink film is not attached to the container, but stands from this and thus forms openings through which passes in the subsequent shrinkage hot air into the container. The effect of hot air and / or heat on the shrink film reduces the size of the shrink film.

In doing so, the shrinkage in dimension of the shrink film causes it to closely fit the product group and thus fix it. Only on the side surfaces remain as openings the so-called shrinkage eyes, which in the finished manufactured packaging unit, the individual products still not fully protect against unauthorized access, and also adversely affect the stability of the packaging.

For this reason, many packers go to stiffen the packaging to be produced by additionally introduced stability means. In the simplest case these are cardboard bottoms or so-called pads or trays on which the products are placed and form the product formation. After wrapping the so packaged packaging unit with the shrink film, the necessary stability is observed as a result.

- Hier will die Erfindung insgesamt Abhilfe schaffen. However, the application of the products to said paperboard requires an additional processing step. In addition, the cardboard underlay must be disposed of, for example, at the consumer or in a store and, of course, is associated with not inconsiderable costs in producing the packaging unit. - Here the invention aims to provide a total remedy.

The invention is based on the technical problem of further developing a method and a device of the embodiment described at the outset such that the costs are reduced while at the same time unchanged functionality.

To solve this problem, it is provided in a generic method that the shrink film is applied before shrinking at least in the region of the side surfaces, or the former shrinkage eye to the product formation to form a closed surface in the form of a closure with overlapping fold areas.

According to the invention, the shrink wrap or the blank of the shrink film is thus initially dimensioned such that it forms lateral projections over the product formation which are then applied to the product formation in the region of associated side surfaces. That is, the lateral projections are able to produce on the side surfaces of the product formation a closed surface of the shrink film, so that the former at least partially open side surfaces undergo a closure, so are equipped with a shrinking eye closure.

The lateral projections of the shrink film are thus applied to the surface of the product formation at least in the region of the former shrinkage eye and here form the already mentioned closed surface, which represents a closure. It is understood that the shrink film is actively actively applied to the product formation at least in the region of the side surfaces in the majority of applications, that is, the application of the shrink film can also be made in other areas of the product formation, if necessary.

For example, it is conceivable within the scope of the invention that the application of the shrink film to the product formation is carried out without contact, ie without the use of additional manipulation units. In this case, it has proven useful when the shrink film is electrostatically charged. Such an electrostatic charge is easily possible because it is advantageous in the shrink film to a shrink film made of plastic, such as PE (polyethylene), is. Such plastic films can be easily charged electrostatically, as example and not limiting in the DE 10 2005 024 380 A1 or even the DE 101 44 287 A1 is described, to which reference is expressly made.

In any case, the previously electrostatically charged shrink film lays without contact and without the use of additional manipulation units without contact to the side surfaces of the product formation in the area of former shrink eyes and ensures the desired fixation of the shrink film in this area.

As an alternative to the described contactless fixation of the lateral protrusions on the side surfaces in the region of the respective opening, it is alternatively or additionally also possible to carry out the application by means of one or more manipulation units-by touch. This one or more manipulation units are usually known guides, guide rods, starting elements or even one or more brushes. With the help of these manipulation units, for example, the one or more brushes, the lateral projections of the shrink film can be applied to the product formation, with possibly overlapping folding areas.

The visual appearance of the shrink wrap can be improved in some applications by taking measures that reliably prevent displacement or slippage of the fully positioned shrink film into one another or else relative to the product formation.

First, there is the possibility to choose the electrostatic charge so that the achievable adhesive forces between the overlapping shrink film or between the shrink film and the associated product formation or the surrounding environment safely prevent unwanted displacement of the shrink film.

Another possibility for fixing the shrink film is to glue together the overlapping areas and / or the overlapping fold areas of the shrink film. For this purpose, the shrink film can be equipped with an adhesive coating, which is advantageous in the lateral Supernatant is applied from the outset or applied after wrapping the product formation.

Furthermore, it is also possible, the shrink film by means of a method in which adhesive is applied by means of a spray or spray on the shrink film to stick.

Of course, the folding areas can of course also be welded by the shrinking process itself, as it has long been known from the use of shrink films.

In order to be able to represent the closed surface as flawlessly as possible, it has proven in certain applications when the shrink film is fixed to the product formation at least in the region of the side surfaces of the product formation. This means that the lateral projections in the area of the side surfaces are not only actively applied to the product formation, but are also determined on the product formation. For this purpose, various types of fixation can be used.

As soon as the lateral protrusions are moved towards the side surface to be closed, the overlapping fold areas are formed and the adhesive present in the overlap area or else the weld ensures that the individual folds can no longer be detached from one another.

In any case, the subsequent shrinking process in, for example, a shrink tunnel through the action of hot air, heat radiation, etc., ensures that any folds or corrugations in the shrink film no longer play a role, because the shrink film contracts during this process and the product formation and consequently the shrinkage Firmly enclosing products in the form of a container. Because in this inventive process If the holes or openings formerly used on the side surfaces of the product formation do not arise, the product formation is enveloped by a total and completely closed film packaging. As a result, the stability of the packaging unit produced in this way can be significantly increased over previous embodiments. In fact, even stabilities are achieved which correspond to those packaging units with shrink eye and additional cardboard insert, waiving such additional reinforcing measures.

That is, in the context of the invention, reinforcing cardboard supports, imported cardboard strips etc. are completely dispensable in many applications, in further applications, the cardboard or cardboard strips can be reduced in their dimensions, for example in thickness, so that there is also a cost savings.

Finally, the packaging unit according to the invention, consisting essentially of the product formation and the closed shrink film enclosing it, already without any additional reinforcement has a very high stability for the storage and / or the subsequent transport of the products. Even manipulations of the products in the presentation of goods, for example in the store are almost completely prevented compared to previous embodiments. Here are the main benefits.

According to an advantageous embodiment, the shrink film is wrapped around the product formation with overlapping edges and then shrunk. In most cases, the overlapping edges are the longitudinal edges because the shrink wrap is wrapped around the product formation in the longitudinal direction thereof, so that in the transverse direction of the product formation after this process and at their respective side surfaces the already mentioned openings or shrinkage eyes remain and are closed according to the invention.

In order to realize the closure of the lateral openings or shrinkage eyes in detail, it has proven useful if this consists of two narrow side folds and two broad side folds, each resulting from the lateral projections of the shrink film on the side surfaces. The two narrow side folds result from the fact that the lateral projections of the wound around the product formation shrink film are applied to the narrow sides of the product formation on this. The broad side folds arise due to the fact that the lateral projections on the broad sides of the product formation are subjected to the described application process. In most cases, the application of the associated narrow-side projections and broad-side projections is effected by suitable manipulation units applying the respective projections to the associated side surface of the product formation. Here it has proven to work with elements such as guides, guide rods or start-up elements.

Also, it has been proven to work with brushes, preferably with rotating brushes, which are connected for example to pivot arms, are moved with their help and perform the described - folding.

In general, the broad side projections and the narrow side projections or the associated broad side folds are fixed to each other with the narrow side folds. For this purpose, associated and overlapping folding areas may be glued together or undergo a mutual fixation at the latest when the shrink film is shrunk. That is, in the described Bonding is indeed an unnecessary option.

To achieve this in detail, first the narrow side folds and finally the wide side folds are made. For this purpose, therefore, the narrow side projections are first applied with the aid of the associated manipulation units or brushes to the corresponding side surface. Finally, the broadside projections or corresponding Breitseitenfaltungen follow. It has proven to be favorable overall when the product formation is first wrapped loosely in the shrink film, wherein the shrink film advantageously at its edges, usually the longitudinal edges, covered. In this way, it is also ensured during subsequent shrinking that the shrink film no longer releases any area of the product formation and the product formation is enveloped over the entire area and closed.

In the following the invention will be explained in more detail with reference to a drawing showing only one exemplary embodiment; show it:
Fig. 1

the total produced packaging unit.

In the figures, an apparatus for producing a packaging unit is shown. The packaging unit is proven to be the Fig. 1 to 3 essentially composed of a shrink film 1 and a product formation 2 enveloped by the shrink film 1. The product formation 2 is in turn built from individual products 3, which are best in the Fig. 3 recognizes. The products 3 in the exemplary embodiment are cans, more precisely beverage cans, that is to say usually rotationally symmetrical and, in particular, cylindrical containers, preferably for receiving drinks. In principle, conventional cans for holding foods as products 3 in the manner described below can also be combined to form the packaging unit.

For this purpose, the products 3 are first discharged by means of a separating device, not shown, from a product stream and combined into the product formation 2, aligned and compressed so far that they are in abutment with each other. The shrink film 1 is then used overall to fix the products 3 and the product formation 2, so that the packaging unit thus produced better stored and / or can be transported.

For this purpose, the shrink film 1 is first loosely wrapped around the product formation 2, as shown in the Fig. 1 is shown. This may be done with the help of a winding machine not expressly shown. In this process, the shrink film 1 is wrapped around the product formation 2, that overlap respective edges 1 a, 1 b, as can be seen in the Fig. 1 recognizes. The edges 1 a, 1 b are, in the exemplary embodiment and not restrictive, the longitudinal edges 1 a, 1 b of the shrink film 1.

In fact, the shrink film 1 is wrapped in the longitudinal direction L to the product formation 2, which of course is not mandatory. It can be seen that the packaging unit formed in this way has lateral projections 4a, 4b in comparison to an associated side surface 2a of the product formation. In this case, the lateral projections 4a, 4b of the shrink film 1 are all dimensioned so that the shrink film 1, the respective Side surface 2a closes when the lateral projections 4a, 4b are applied to the side surface 2a and the product formation 2, respectively. In fact, it initially forms a tubular shape around the product formation 2 as shown in FIG Fig. 1 wrapped shrink film 1 in the region of the two side surfaces 2a each have an opening 5. This opening 5 now receives a closure 6, which in the Fig. 2 is shown.

The closure 6 is defined by the fact that the shrink film 1 or its lateral projections 4a, 4b are applied to the product formation 2 in the region of the opening 5 to form a closed surface. For this purpose, the device for producing the illustrated packaging unit, in addition to the already mentioned separating device and a shrinking device placed at the end of the production path for the final mutual fixing of the products 3 with the aid of the shrink film 1, additionally has a plurality of manipulation units 7 which are arranged in the Fig. 2 are indicated.

The respective manipulation unit 7 is equipped, for example, with at least one brush 7a, which is carried by a pivot arm 7b. The brush 7a rotates about a defined by the pivot arm 7b axis, which is not mandatory. With the aid of the brush 7a or the manipulation unit 7 as a whole, the respective lateral projections 4a, 4b of the shrink film 1 are applied to the product formation 2 in the region of the opening 5. In this case, overlapping fold areas 8a, 8b are formed, which are also in the Fig. 2 recognizes. A total of four brushes 7a are realized, one brush 7a per side surface of the generally cuboid-shaped product formation 2.

Vergleichbares gilt natürlich ebenso für die Schmalseitenüberstände 4a und die daraus resultierenden Faltbereiche 8a.The lateral projections 4a, 4b are, on the one hand, narrow-side projections 4a and, on the other hand, broad-side projections 4b. The broadside projections 4b are applied to the side surface 2a with the aid of the associated manipulation units 7 on the corresponding broad sides of the cuboid product formation 2. As a result, in the exemplary embodiment, the folding areas 8b are adjusted accordingly Fig. 2 educated. These folding areas 8b corresponding to Fig. 2 may be fixed to the side surface 2a by being completely and previously electrostatically charged with the shrink film 1 and the manipulation units 7 providing such approach of the associated side projections 4b until they are electrostatically attracted to the side surface 2a. Alternatively or additionally, it is also possible for the folding areas 8b to undergo bonding with one another (or with the product formation 2). Of course, the same applies to the narrow side projections 4a and the folding areas 8a resulting therefrom.

In any case, the application of the narrow side projections 4a takes place first, so that first of all the two associated narrow side folds 8a rest against the side surface 2a to be covered. Subsequently, the two broad-side projections 4b are applied to the side surface 2a and form here the broad side folds 8b. In this process, the broad side folds 8b are generally connected to the narrow side folds 8a. This can be done by the already described electrostatic charging of the shrink film 1 in the whole or at least the lateral projections 4a, 4b and / or by gluing the folding areas 8a, 8b.

After these operations described, the packaging unit according to the Fig. 2 spent in a shrink tunnel or a comparable shrinking device, in which the shrink film 1 is shrunk onto the product formation 2. At the same time, the products 3 experience a mutual fixation, because in this process the shrink film 1 is reduced in size. As a result of the fact that the side surfaces which were previously open by the shrinkage eyes are also removed by the procedure according to the invention are covered by a closed surface and are closed by the interaction of the narrow side folds 8a and broad side folds 8b, the shrink film 1 completely envelops the product formation 2 even after the shrinking process. Consequently, the incorporation of additional stabilizing elements such as cardboard covers, etc. can be omitted expressly. This reduces the manufacturing costs and the effort.

As already stated, in many other applications in which additional stabilizing elements can not be completely dispensed with, a reduction in the dimensions of the stabilizing elements, for example a reduction in their material thickness, can be carried out, resulting in cost savings in such applications.

The already described electrostatic charging of the shrink film 1 or at least the lateral projections 4a, 4b can be carried out before, but also after the folding process described. That is, even the narrow side folds 8a and wide side folds 8b can be according to their manufacture according to the Fig. 2 Then charge electrostatically to prevent them from being refolded. In any case, the shrink film 1 remains in its position after the operations described (and in particular in the region of the closure 6) and is not displaced by a possibly hot air blower inside the shrinking tunnel. This makes it possible that the shrink film 1 encloses the product formation gapless and in particular the previously open side surfaces get a reliable closure 6. Here are the main benefits.
