Durch die Ungleichförmigkeit bei der Rotation der Kurbelwelle wird über das Zugmittel, also dem Zahnriemen oder die Kette, die¬ se Ungleichförmigkeit auf die Ausgleichswelle übertragen, was zu extremen Beanspruchungen des Zugmittels führt. Die Situation wird dabei noch dadurch verschärft, dass die Ausgleichswellen häufig mit doppelter Motordrehzahl rotie- ren, was eine zusätzliche Beanspruchung (Zentrifugalkraft + Verschleißbean¬ spruchung) des Zugmittels verursacht. Bei ovaler Ausbildung des Abtriebszahnrads 2 und/oder der Antriebszahnräder 4 gemäß Fig. 2 ergibt sich ein optimaler Aus¬ gleich für einen Vierzylindermotor. Das Gleiche gilt auch für das als Abtriebs¬ oder Antriebszahnrad geeignete Zahnrad 2 in Fig. 2, das speziell als Riemen- rad für einen Riemenantrieb gestaltet ist.
