Description

The present invention relates to the general field of bedding. It relates in particular to the field of spring-type carcasses for mattresses.

Carcasses of this type typically include a plurality of spiral-shaped metal springs, which are strongly bonded to each other to provide good cohesion and strength to the structure.

The springs in question are in some cases assembled by multiple metal links; in other cases, they are individually bagged in textile pockets, secured to each other for example by gluing or sewing.

However, these metal connections springs, or their pocket, complicate the mechanization of carcass mounting operations, and also disassembly operations for recycling materials.

By the document U.S. 2,287,226 it is known to make a mattress carcass by means of metal spiral springs fixed on a flexible support fabric by means of hooked clips; again this technical solution does not appear satisfactory because of its complexity of implementation.

In addition, the carcasses obtained are often not well adapted to be integrated into mattresses intended to equip articulated bed bases, because they are too rigid.

The present invention aims to remedy these drawbacks by proposing a spring casing of simplified original structure, the mounting and dismounting are very easy, without requiring complex and expensive mechanical means. This carcass is also very easily recyclable, and some of its particular achievements are well suited to be integrated into the mattress equipping the articulated bed bases.

The above objects are achieved by a carcass comprising a support sheet, made of flexible or semi-rigid material, on at least one of the faces of which are fixed a plurality of spring members; these spring members each comprise a base, disposed at a receiving orifice formed in the support sheet, and cooperating, by means of appropriate fixing means, with a holding element attached to the other side of said support sheet .
The spring members and the holding members (which may also be spring members) hold each other and are carried by the support sheet.

According to a particularly advantageous embodiment, the means for fixing the spring members and the associated holding elements are removable, particularly to facilitate dismantling of the structure; these fixing means may be snap type or other.

According to a preferred embodiment, the spring members and the associated holding elements comprise removable fixing means consisting of a tenon, provided with locking projections protruding at its free end, arranged on one of the elements (spring member or holding element), cooperating with a hole forming a mortise, arranged on the other element (as appropriate a spring member or a holding element).

According to another particular embodiment of the invention, the base of the spring members and the associated holding means each comprise a flat surface which extends facing one of the faces of the support sheet, at the periphery of the receiving orifice.

In a particularly advantageous embodiment, the carcass comprises first spring members arranged on one of the faces of the support sheet, and second spring members arranged on the other side of said support sheet, facing said first spring members; each of the first spring members is secured to one of the second spring members, at a receiving orifice formed in the support sheet, thus forming pairs of spring members disposed on either side of said support sheet, the base of one of the spring members of said pair constituting the holding member of the other member spring from this pair.

According to a particular arrangement of this embodiment, the first and second spring members are of generally identical or similar shape.

According to another particular provision, the couples of springs comprise a duct or channel passing through the receiving orifice of the support sheet, in order to ensure aeration of the mattress.

Still according to a particular provision, having an interest in the context of the equipment of articulated bed bases, the carcass according to the invention comprises a support sheet arranged in its median or substantially median plane.

In a particular embodiment, the spring members each comprise a base adapted to cooperate with a holding element attached to the other face of the support sheet, by means of removable fixing means, and a plate intended to form a contact surface with one of the padding material layers of the mattress; this base and this plate are connected by suspension means, advantageously constituted by at least one deformable blade.

Still according to a particular embodiment of the invention, the spring members are made of thermoplastic material.

The invention also relates to a spring member made of thermoplastic material for a mattress carcass as defined above, comprising a base adapted to cooperate with a holding member, by means of removable fastening means, and a plate for forming a contact surface with one of the layers of padding material of the mattress, which base and which plate are connected by means of suspension means consisting of at least one deformable blade.
The invention further relates to the mattress consisting of a spring carcass as described above, associated with padding and lining materials.

  • la figure 1 est une vue en coupe longitudinale d'un matelas, montrant schématiquement une première forme de réalisation d'une carcasse à ressorts conforme à l'invention ;
  • la figure 2 est une vue en coupe longitudinale d'un matelas, montrant schématiquement la structure d'une deuxième forme de réalisation d'une carcasse conforme à l'invention ;
  • la figure 3 est encore une vue en coupe longitudinale du matelas représenté sur la figure 2, illustrant ses capacités d'articulation ;
  • la figure 4 est une vue générale en perspective d'un couple d'organes ressorts particuliers, aptes à équiper la carcasse des figures 2 et 3 ;
The invention will be further illustrated, without being limited, by the following description of various particular embodiments, given solely by way of example, and shown in the accompanying drawings in which:
  • the figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of a mattress, schematically showing a first embodiment of a spring carcass according to the invention;
  • the figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of a mattress, schematically showing the structure of a second embodiment of a carcass according to the invention;
  • the figure 3 is still a longitudinal sectional view of the mattress shown on the figure 2 , illustrating its articulation capabilities;
  • the figure 4 is a general perspective view of a pair of particular spring members, able to equip the carcass of Figures 2 and 3 ;
  • the figure 5 is a vertical sectional view along 5-5 of the pair of spring members of the figure 4 .

The figure 1 is a schematic representation of a mattress 1 equipped with a carcass 2 according to the invention, which carcass is conventionally interposed between two layers of upholstery material 3 coated with a lining thickness 4.

The corresponding carcass 2 here comprises a support sheet 5 on one of the faces of which are arranged a plurality of spring members 6. These spring members 6 are each fixed on the sheet 5 in a removable manner by means of a holding element 7 which is attached to the other side of said support sheet 5.

The support sheet 5 is a means of connection and maintenance, simple and effective, all the spring members 6 of the carcass. This backing sheet 5 has a surface which substantially corresponds to the total surface of the mattress; she is made of a flexible or semi-rigid material, for example of the plastic sheet kind.
This support sheet 5 comprises a plurality of orifices 5 'through which the spring members 6 are each adapted to cooperate with a holding element 7, as described in more detail below. For this purpose, the support sheet 5 may be in the form of a solid sheet in which are arranged a plurality of orifices 5 'regularly distributed; it can also be in the general form of a grid or a mesh, the size of the openings is adapted to the cooperation between the spring members 6 and the associated holding elements 7.

The corresponding spring members 6 may be made in one piece or consist of several parts assembled to each other; they are advantageously made of a thermoplastic material, for example of the elastomer type.
These spring members 6 are here each constituted of a base 8, able to rest against one of the faces of the support sheet 5 and adapted to cooperate with the holding member 7 associated, - a plate 9 ensuring the contact against the padding layer 3 disposed opposite, and between said base 8 and said plate 9 - suspension means 10, determining the firmness or the hardness of the mattress. As illustrated on the figure 1 these suspension means 10 may consist of deformable blades; but we can also consider any other form or structure.

The holding elements 7 of the spring members 6, arranged on the other side of the sheet 5, have the smallest possible thickness. They are also preferably made of a thermoplastic material.
These holding elements 7 comprise structural means (not detailed) capable of cooperating removably, or in other words removable, through a receiving orifice 5 'arranged in the support sheet 5, with complementary structural means arranged at the level of of the base 8 of the associated spring member 6. For example, these removable fastening means consist of a tenon (s) / mortise (s) type latching system, an example of which structure will be described in more detail later, in connection with the figure 5 .

We still notice, on this figure 1 , that the attachment of the spring members 6 is obtained by sandwiching, or by clamping, the periphery of the receiving port 5 'between the base 8 of the spring member 6 and the holding member 7 associated. The base 8 of the spring member 6 and the associated holding member 7 then comprise suitable flat surfaces.

In possible embodiments, a slight clearance may remain between the support sheet 5 and the facing faces of the base 8 and the holding member 7, in particular to compensate for the thickness tolerances of said support sheet 5 .

The Figures 2 and 3 represent a mattress 1 whose carcass 2 constitutes a variant of that described above in relation to the figure 1 .
We find, on these Figures 2 and 3 , a carcass 2 comprising a support sheet 5 of flexible or semi-rigid material, on one of which are arranged the spring members 6, hereinafter referred to as "first spring members". These first spring members 6 are constituted, as previously described, in connection with the figure 1 , a base 8 connected to a plate 9 by suspension means 10.

Spring members 6 ', hereinafter referred to as "second spring members", are here attached to the other side of the support sheet 5, each facing one of the first spring members 6.
These second spring members 6 'have a structure identical or similar to that of the first spring members 6 described above; thus, they are also each constituted by a base 8 ', a plate 9' and suspension means 10 'extending between said base and said plate.

As previously described in relation to the figure 1 , the first spring members 6 are distributed on one of the faces of the support sheet 5, each at a receiving orifice 5 ', and they are held in a removable manner by the holding element constituted here by the base 8 'of a second spring member 6' arranged facing, on the other side of the support sheet 5. The corresponding holding means are preferably latching means, ensuring a removable attachment.

The support sheet 5 extends here in the middle of the carcass 2 and in the middle of the fitted mat, interposed between the pairs of first and second spring members 6 and 6 '.

The mattress 1 provided with such a carcass 2 is then particularly adapted to equip the articulated bed bases, because of its flexibility and its large deformation capacities, as represented by way of illustration on the figure 3 .
This deformation capacity is in particular conferred by the use of a central support sheet 5 as means for holding and fixing the spring members 6, 6 'between them. The linkage structure of the springs is then positioned in a plane of absence of voltage, which allows the carcass to be easily deformed without undergoing large internal stresses.
As can be seen on the figure 3 , the free ends of the springs 6, 6 '(consisting of trays 9, 9') have the possibility of movement relative to each other; they can move closer and apart to better follow the movements of the padding layers 3 related to the deformations of the mattress.

It is understood that this structure allows use of both sides of the mattress, at the option of the user.
If necessary, the structure of the spring members 6, 6 'disposed on either side of the support sheet 5 may be different to provide two types of hardness. On each face, it is also possible to consider using different spring members, in certain areas, so as to adapt the flexibility according to the area of the body supported.

A pair of spring members that can be attached to a support sheet, for the manufacture of a carcass according to the invention, is shown in detail on the Figures 4 and 5 .

In these figures, there is a first spring member 6 and a second spring member 6 ', both of generally frustoconical shape, coaxially contiguous to each other on a pin marked 11.
These two spring members 6 and 6 ', each made in one piece by molding of thermoplastic material, each comprise respectively - a base 8 and 8', corresponding to the small base of the spring member, - a plate 9 and 9 'corresponding to the large base, and - suspension means 10 and 10 'extending between said base and said plate.
It is further observed that the bases 8 and 8 'of these spring members 6 and 6', or in other words their small bases, are juxtaposed and secured to one another, on either side of the support sheet 5 ( figure 5 ).

The plates 9 and 9 'of the two spring members 6 and 6' are of generally annular shape; in alternative embodiments they may have a square or rectangular shape. The upper face of these two plates 9 and 9 'is intended to come into contact with one of the padding layers of the mattress.

The suspension means 10 and 10 'consist in a plurality of blades or arms, here eight in number, which each extend between the base 8 or 8' and the corresponding plate 9 or 9 '. These blades 10 and 10 'are uniformly distributed on the perimeter between the base 8, 8' and the plate 9, 9 ', so as to obtain optimum suspension characteristics of the spring 6, 6'.

As illustrated in the figures, these blades 10, 10 'can be connected by one-piece resilient links 12, to improve the suspension characteristics. bodies springs. These linking structures 12 have for example a general form of omega.

The structure of the blades 10, 10 'is adapted according to the desired flexibility. In the vicinity of the plates 9, 9 ', they may comprise a relatively pronounced curvature defining pivot lines 13 facilitating and optimizing the crushing of the spring members.

The bases 8 and 8 'juxtaposed pairs of spring members 6 and 6' are for their part able to cooperate by means of complementary structural means, the kind of tenon / mortise, so as to obtain a removable attachment of said spring members 6 and 6 'on the support sheet 5, as shown in detail on the figure 5 .

The base 8 of the first spring 6 here has a generally annular shape, delimited mainly by an outer face 15, an inner face 16 and a circular central hole 17 forming a mortise. The inner face 16 of this base 8 is provided with an annular protrusion 18 within which is arranged an annular shoulder 19. This shoulder 19 extends concentrically to the axis 11.
The outer face 15 of the base 8 is itself flat, provided only with a small annular rib 20, concentric with the axis 11, arranged at a distance from the orifice 17.

The base 8 'of the second spring 6' is also of generally annular shape delimited by an inner face 21, an outer face 22, and a cylindrical central orifice 23 coaxial with the axis 11.
The outer face 22 of this base 8 'is provided with a tubular one-piece extension 24, forming a tenon, extending the cylindrical central orifice 23. Note that this tubular extension 24 has an outer diameter corresponding, with the game, to that of the internal diameter of the orifice 17 of the base 8 of the first spring 6. This stud 24 further comprises, at the outer face of its free end edge, tongues or integral projecting lugs 25 (here three in number). ) evenly distributed on its periphery.
The outer face 22 of the base 8 'further comprises a small annular rib 26, arranged concentrically with the axis 11, near the orifice 17. This annular rib 26 has a diameter slightly smaller than that of the rib 20 of the base 8.

The assembly of the two spring members 6 and 6 'on the support sheet 5, through a receiving orifice 5', is illustrated in detail on the figure 5 .
In this case, the second spring 6 'is arranged so that the cylindrical pin 24 of its base 8' passes through the receiving orifice 5 'arranged in the support sheet 5. On note that the outer diameter of the tubular post 24 is less than that of the receiving port 5 ', in particular to avoid the presence of tension on the support sheet. The outer face 22 of the base 8 'of the second spring member 6' is then pressed against the periphery of the receiving orifice 5 '.
The first spring member 6 is then attached to the second spring member 6 'suitably positioned, so that the tubular post 24 of the latter comes to force-fit through the orifice 17 of the base 8 of the first spring member 6, forming mortise.
Once the post 24 is properly fitted, its end lugs 25 are housed in the annular shoulder 19 of the base 8, which allows effective attachment of the first and second spring members 6 and 6 ', one with the other, while making it possible to separate them by a simple gaping force (the structure of the protruding lugs 25 is adapted accordingly). The spring members 6 and 6 'are thus held removably on the support sheet 5.
It will be possible to ensure that the forces necessary for separating the elements are relatively important to allow this separation only by mechanical means.
In this embodiment, it is understood that the base 8 'of the second spring member 6' constitutes a holding member of the first spring member 6, and vice versa that the base 8 of the first spring member 6 constitutes the holding member of the second member spring 6 '.

On the figure 5 , it is also noted that the periphery of the receiving orifice 5 'of the support sheet 5 is interposed between the outer face 15 of the base 8 and the outer face 22 of the base 8'. The sheet 5 is advantageously clamped between the pairs of spring members 6, 6 ', the annular ribs 20 and 26 above optimizing the maintenance. As specified above, it is also possible to envisage embodiments in which the two spring members 6, 6 'are removably assembled by preserving a certain clearance between the outer faces of their respective bases 8, 8', slightly greater than the thickness of the support sheet 5.

The assembly of the pairs of spring members 6, 6 'with each other and with the support sheet 5 can be done manually, but preferably suitable mechanized means will be used.

It will also be noted that the orifice 23 of the post 24 of the second spring member 6 'constitutes a conduit or channel providing communication between the spaces on either side of the support sheet 5. The different ducts 23 thus provide effective ventilation of the internal volume of the mattress.

The spring members 6 and 6 'illustrated on the Figures 4 and 5 are made in one piece, each from a different mold to form the complementary latching means described above. As indicated above, each spring member 6, 6 'can also be achieved by assembling several parts made independently of each other.

In alternative embodiments the means for fixing the spring members to each other, or with suitable holding elements, may be provided non-removable; in this case, they will advantageously be provided easily degradable to facilitate their disassembly for recycling. For example, the corresponding attachment can be made by gluing; it is also possible to consider a fastening by means of lugs, snap-fasteners or other, able to perforate and pass through the flexible support sheet, the perforation in question forming the holding hole mentioned above.

The spring type carcasses according to the invention are particularly interesting because their various constituent elements (spring members 6 and 6 ', support sheet 5, holding elements 7) can be manufactured on a particular site. , then be transported dissociated to the final assembly site of the mattress. This feature is possible because of the simplified structure of the carcass and its ease of assembly. In this case, it is well understood that the volume occupied by the disassembled carcasses can be relatively low, particularly compared to the volume occupied by the pre-assembled mattress carcasses, known to date, provided to the mattress manufacturers. Similarly, the volume occupied by a pre-assembled carcass, in accordance with the invention, is still limited, in particular because of its capacity for deformation at the level of the support sheet.
This carcass structure also facilitates disassembly operations, for their recycling, especially when using removable fastening means to secure the spring members with the support sheet.
The recycling operations in question are further optimized because the various constituent elements of the carcasses are made of thermoplastic material. In addition, the corresponding thermoplastic materials guarantee the user optimum hygiene by their inertia to moisture and confinement, which is not the case with mattresses using metal springs. Due to its structure and because of the materials used, the spring carcass according to the invention is relatively light and has a limited cost.
