Description

The invention relates to a mattress for aircraft. Onboard VIP aircraft, business jets and government aircraft, and occasionally first-class commercial aircraft use beds with a flat sleeping surface. The mattress used for such beds requires aviation law approval and must be tested for flammability, in particular by a method described in more detail below. Mattresses that meet the requirements of aviation law generally offer low lying comfort.

The invention is therefore an object of the invention to provide a mattress suitable for aircraft, which has a higher comfort.

The mattress for aircraft according to the invention has a lying surface and a flame retardant foam core. It is characterized by the following features:
  1. a) the foam core has on the side facing the lying surface on a large-scale recess occupies at least 70%, preferably at least 80%, more preferably at least 90% of the bed surface,
  2. b) the recess is surrounded in the edge regions of the lying surface by a foam web,
  3. c) in the recess a couch pad is inserted from a spacer textile,
  4. d) the fibers of the spacer textile are flame retardant.

First, some terms used in the invention are explained.

The foam core of the mattress according to the invention is difficult to ignite. This requirement is always met when the finished mattress meets all aviation requirements (see below for details). The lying surface of the mattress according to the invention has a size that allows comfortable sleep for average people. In general, it is at least 1.80 m, preferably at least 1.90 m, more preferably at least 2.00 m long and in a single bed at least 60 cm, preferably at least 80 cm, more preferably at least 1 m wide. The lying surface can extend over the large-area recess of the foam core, which will be described in more detail below, and the edge region of the foam core with its foam webs. Other dimensions of the lying surface adapted to the local conditions are possible.

According to the invention, it is provided that the foam core on the side facing the lying surface has a large-area recess, which occupies the area defined in claim 1 surface portions of the corresponding mattress side. The recess is preferably a flat depression, which is preferably adapted to the shape of the mattress, that is to say in particular rectangular, and which is in the edge regions the mattress is surrounded by a recess extending horizontally (perpendicular to the lying surface) superior foam web. In other words, the foam core has a smaller thickness in the region of the recess than in the edge regions of the core with the webs arranged there.

In the recess of the foam core a mattress base is inserted from a spacer textile. The fibers of this spacer textile are flame retardant.

Spacer fabrics have two textile base surfaces (in particular woven or knitted surfaces) which extend substantially parallel to one another at a distance from each other and between which the base surfaces connecting spacer threads extend, which are integrated into the base surfaces in accordance with the textile surface-forming method used. The spacer threads may have diagonally extending, extending directions of extension in the longitudinal direction of the goods or goods; Furthermore, they can have arbitrarily intersecting spacer threads running diagonally to the direction of production of the textile, or they can extend approximately perpendicular to these base surfaces between the base surfaces. Such spacer textiles can absorb load, be permanently elastic and provided with continuous return properties. Due to the spacer layer extending between the two base surfaces, they have very good thermophysiological properties and in particular can absorb and dissipate the heat and moisture released by the body. For the mattress according to the invention suitable spacer textiles are known in the art and, for example, in DE 100 26 405 A1 . DE 100 13 492 A1 and DE 102 40 462 A1 described.

In the prior art are in aircraft always only foam mattresses made of flame-retardant foam used. Such an embodiment is for example from the EP-A-0 231 968 known. The reason for this is that the mattresses for aviation approval must withstand a so-called oil burner test and a Bunsen burner test (FAR / EASA §25.853 Flammability of Seat Cushions) Flame-retardant foam blocks are closed-cell foam and do not allow moisture to circulate. The lying properties are therefore unfavorable.

In the case of the aforementioned oil burner test, a seat cushion or the mattress is exposed from the side (ie parallel to the lying surface) to a kerosene flame and may only be burned or destroyed within certain limits described in more detail in said specification. This oil burner test has always been overcome in the prior art only by suitably equipped foam mattresses.

The spacer textiles used according to the invention are actually completely unsuitable for passing the oil burner test. The reason for this is that between the two textile layers they have a spacing layer which is only loosely filled with spacer threads and acts as a chimney draft from the side when a flame acts and quickly distributes the flame and hot combustion gases over a large area. Surprisingly, it has now been shown that nevertheless the use of a comfort-increasing spacer textile is possible with an aviation mattress if this textile is enclosed laterally by the foam webs defined in greater detail in the patent claim. The foam web ensures that during the oil burner test (flame exposure from the side) the flame does not act directly on the spacer textile and in particular can not strike from the side into the distance between the two fabric surfaces or knitted surfaces. Instead, the foam web blocks the flame sufficiently long, in order to avoid a widespread propagation of the combustion gases and fire effects through the distance space of the spacer fabric.

The foam web encloses the edge regions of the lying surface. It can according to the invention in particular have a horizontal width (parallel to the lying surface) of 2 to 9 cm. This thickness is sufficient to prevent the flame in the oil burner test largely from a lateral impact into the spacer textile. The depth of the recess and the thickness of the pad is preferably 2 to 6 cm, more preferably about 3 cm. Preferably, the thickness of the mattress base corresponds approximately to the depth of the recess.

The spacer textile is preferably a spacer fabric or particularly preferably a spacer fabric. In a spacer fabric, the textile base surfaces are woven, knitted in a knitted fabric accordingly. The thread groups already described above, which are woven or forfeited integrally with the two base surfaces, extend between these textile bases or base layers. It is preferably flame-resistant threads containing flame-resistant materials such as Kevlar. The preparation of the mattress from the outset flame-resistant threads (instead of a flame-resistant equipment) has the advantage that the breathability of the mattress is maintained and thus the sleeping comfort is increased.

If in this context of flameproof or flame retardant is mentioned, this always aims at a condition or equipment that leaves the mattress according to the invention as a whole the said oil burner test.

The mattress base is preferably inserted into the recess of the foam core and can be cleaned as needed or to be changed. It can have an anti-allergenic effect, since allergens fall through the loose flocks of the spacer layer between the two textile base surfaces, so to speak.
