  • the first spindle means may comprise a rigid member of fixed lengths, with the second spindle means comprising a member the length of which can be adjusted with respect to the first spindle means to vary the length of the spindle.

  • the handle 14 is fitted to a mounting plate 17, which has holes 18 therein for securing the handle to the outside of a door.
  • the spindle assembly will pass through the door, engaging with an internal catch mechanism and the spindle component 10 will engage in a square socket in another handle on the other side of the door.
  • the length of the spindle assembly can be adjusted to suit the thickness of the door by moving the components 11 back and forth along the component 10, before the components are assembled together, until the desired length has been pre-selected.
  • the assembled components as shown in Figure 1 are then slid into the socket in the handle 14.
  • Each of the components 11 slides into one of the T-shaped sockets 16 and the end of the component 10 which lies between the components 11 passes into the square section socket 15.
  • the length of the spindle assembly can be re-adjusted should the thickness of the door be different.
  • a first spindle component 10 comprises a solid component of a generally square cross-section, the component being fixed in length.
  • the second spindle means comprises a compression spring 19 attached to the end of the component 10.
  • the compression spring 19 is slid into a socket 20 in the handle 14.
  • the component 10 will pass through the door, engaging with an internal catch mechanism and will then engage in a square socket in another handle on the other side of the door.
  • the length of the spindle assembly will automatically adjust to suit the thickness of the door by a greater or lesser degree of compression of the spring 19.
