Definitions

  • the present invention relates to an improvement for a protective helmet and more particularly to its connection means for a support, for example, for a night vision device or the like.
  • Protective helmets are already known which are used in various fields and worn by various users such as cyclists, motorcyclists, firemen, skiers and others, such as pilots of aircraft or helicopters. All current helmets, whatever their use, comprise an external rigid shell having the general shape of a sphere, comprising a facial opening, and whose cavity thus formed comprises protective padding elements and comfort designed to fit the head of the user. Moreover, the helmet is traditionally retained on the head of the user by a flexible chinstrap attached to the side parts of the helmet.
  • the present invention relates more particularly, but not exclusively, helmets for pilots of aircraft or helicopter.
  • helmets are equipped with a display device, such as a night vision device.
  • a display device such as a night vision device.
  • Such a device must be firmly held on the helmet and must have a precise position relative to the eye of the user. This raises the problem of its attachment to the helmet.
  • a helmet that includes a removable support structure that allows to fix night vision glasses.
  • US 5'184'231 discloses a helmet with a sighting system attached to a spherical support structure forming a subassembly pivotally mounted around the helmet, the subassembly being removable from the helmet by unlocking a latch around the axis attached to the outer shell of the helmet.
  • the present invention provides means for removable connection of a support on the helmet particularly simple and reliable.

  • each of the pins extends outwardly on either side of the wall side of the shell along a transverse axis, and each of the pins is cylindrical and comprises a hooking groove intended to cooperate with the corresponding hooking and locking part of the support structure, characterized in that the hooking and locking part is constituted by a metal bar secured to the support structure and comprises a pivotally movable latch urged by a torsion spring, while the bar comprises a housing open towards the rear, while the lock is constituted by a hook-shaped metal piece articulated on said bar about a pivot axis, and that the lock comprises a rear locking projection extending upwards to form with the housing of the bar a hole intended to cooperate with the corresponding catching pin of the shell, and that the latch is pivotally arranged on its corresponding bar so as to pivot downwards against the action of the spring and to be urged upwardly by this spring.
  • the support structure is constituted by a wall made of composite material which has substantially the shape of a triangular portion of a sphere, while it comprises a movable mobile eye protection screen.
  • a movable mobile eye protection screen around an axis transverse to the hull between two positions, namely, between an active low position of use in which it is arranged in front of the user's eyes and an inactive raised position of non-use according to which it is raised to be in front of the upper front wall of the hull, said screen being guided in the center of the helmet by a guide carriage and locking moving in a central slide.
  • the wall of the support structure is disposed at the level of the wall portion upper front of the hull, beyond and at a distance from the latter to leave a space allowing the shield to move with its guide carriage, while said wall of the support structure comprises at least one hole allowing the user to have access to the guiding carriage of the eye protection screen in order to be able to maneuver it even in the presence of optronic equipment, such as a night vision device.
  • the protective helmet shown in FIGS. 1 to 25, bearing the general reference (1) is, for example, a helmet for aircraft pilots or helicopter which has a longitudinal plane of general symmetry (P) which comprises, in known manner, a main outer shell (2) having a front face opening (3) with an inner padding commonly called calotin.
  • P general symmetry
  • the main outer shell is constituted by a substantially spherical wall of generally vertical plane of symmetry (P) which is advantageously made of composite material of the type comprising a stack of layers of reinforcing fibers, impregnated and bonded together by a resin matrix.
  • the fibers may be glass, aramid, nylon, polyethylene or carbon fibers, while the matrix may be a thermosetting or thermoplastic resin.
  • the main outer shell (2) comprises a plurality of wall portions, namely, an upper front wall portion (6) extended rearwardly by an upper rear wall portion (7), itself extended downwardly by a lower rear wall portion, and further comprises two side wall portions (9a, 9b).
  • the upper front portion (6) corresponds to the area occupied by the user's forehead and is limited by the upper edge (10) of the facial opening (3) which, in turn, is limited laterally by two lateral edges. (11a, 11b).
  • the upper rear wall portion (7) corresponds to the area occupied by the cranium of the user, while the lower rear wall portion (7 ') corresponds to the area occupied by the neck of the user.
  • the helmet of the invention further comprises a chin strap (14) constituted, for example, by a flexible strap.
  • the internal lining of the shell (2) is constituted by a cap, for example, rigid foam covered with a soft layer of comfort foam and a fabric that provides the internal decoration of the helmet.
  • the helmet (1) of the invention may comprise an ocular protective screen (5) movable pivotally about a transverse axis XX 'relative to the shell (1) between two positions, namely, between an active low position of use according to which it is arranged in front of the eyes of the user and an inactive raised position of non-use according to which it is raised to be in front of the front wall of the hull.
  • Said screen (5) is guided in the center of the helmet by a guide carriage (50) and locking moving in a central slide (51).
  • the helmet (1) according to the invention is intended to receive a support structure (8, 8 ') for, for example, a night vision device (9).
  • the helmet comprises connection and locking means for releasably securing the support structure according to the needs of the user.
  • the helmet there is provided between the helmet and the support structure connecting means and locking to ensure the support structure a safe connection with the helmet while allowing a particularly simple voluntary stall.
  • the support structure (8) night vision device is constituted by a wall made of composite material which has substantially the shape of a triangular portion of sphere.
  • the wall of the support structure (8) is disposed at the level of the upper front wall portion (6) of the shell, beyond and at a distance from the latter to leave a space (e) allowing the protective screen (5) to move with its guide carriage (50) as is more particularly visible in Figure 1a.
  • said support structure (8) comprises at least one hole and advantageously two elongate holes (80, 81) allowing the user to have access to the guiding carriage (50) of the eye protection screen (5) in order to be able to maneuver it even in the presence of the night vision device.
  • connection and locking means are constituted by an attachment pin (15a, 15b) integral with the shell (2) of the helmet and a hooking and locking piece (16a, 16b) integral with the support structure (8 ).
  • Each of the pins (15a, 15b) extends outwardly on either side of the corresponding lateral wall (9a, 9b) of the shell and is arranged coaxially with respect to the transverse axis XX 'of pivoting of the eye protection screen (5).
  • each of the cylindrical pins (15a, 15b) comprises a hooking groove (150a, 150b) intended to cooperate with the corresponding fastening part of the support structure.
