Wenn zusätzlich beispielsweise im Inneren eines Meißelhalters Ventile angeordnet sind, welche den jeweils im Eingriff stehenden Meißel sowie die zugehörige Schneidspur über eine jeweils zugeordnete Düse zu kühlen erlauben, ist auch eine axiale Verschiebbarkeit des Meißels in der Meißelbüchse erforderlich, um das entsprechende Ventil zu betätigen. Sowohl die Meißelbüchse als auch die Meißel selbst sind nun einem hohen Verschleiß unterworfen und müssen bei unzulässigem Verschleiß getauscht werden. Der Zeitaufwand für einen derartigen Meißeltausch soll naturgemäß so gering wie nur möglich sein. Um einen Meißel aus seiner zugehörigen Meißelbüchse abziehen zu können, muß ein entsprechender axialer Verschiebeweg sichergestellt werden, welcher den Einsatz eines entsprechenden Abziehwerkzeuges zum raschen Wechsel des Meißels ermöglicht.
