- the first stepper motor M 1 ramps up to a speed such that the first drive roller 112 is rotated at an angular velocity that produces a predetermined peripheral speed for the arcuate circumferential segment 112 a that is substantially is equal to the entrance speed of a sheet transported on the sheet transport path P is.
- this sheet section is further transported on the sheet transport path P substantially uninterrupted (see Fig. 7b).
- the second first stepping motor M 2 When the second first stepping motor M 2 is activated by the control unit 220, it also drives up to a speed such that the second drive roller 122 is rotated at an angular velocity that produces a predetermined peripheral speed for the arcuate circumferential segment 122 a substantially equal to that of FIG Entry speed of an arc transported on the sheet transport path P is.
- the portion of the sheet S enters the nip between the arcuate peripheral segment 122a of the second drive roller 122 and the associated roller of the two idler rollers 154, this sheet portion is further transported on the sheet transport path P substantially without interruption.
- the sensor 160b detects the sheet leading edge due to the angle ⁇ of the sheet S before the sensor 160a detects the leading edge.
- the stepper motor M 2 is therefore activated before activation of the stepping motor M 1 .
- Two track longitudinal sensors 162a, 162b are arranged below the plane X 1 . These lane sensors 162a, 162b are therefore disposed below the gaps formed by the respective arcuate peripheral segments 112a, 122a and the associated rollers of the two idler rollers 154. The sheet S is therefore subject to control by this column.
- the lane sensors 162a, 162b may be, for example, optical or mechanical type.
- the lane-side sensor 162a is disposed on a side (in the transverse direction) of the center line C L , while the lane-side sensor 162b is disposed at a substantially equal distance on the opposite side of the center line C L.
- the sensor 162a detects the leading edge of a sheet transported on the sheet transport path P by the drive roller 112, it generates a signal which is sent to the controller 220 to deactivate the first stepping motor M 1 .
- the gap sensor 162b detects the leading edge of a sheet being transported on the sheet transport path P by the drive roller 122, it also generates a signal sent to the controller 220 to deactivate the second stepping motor M 2 .
- the leading edge of one side of the center line C L is detected in front of the leading edge of the opposite side of the center line.
- the rotational speed decreases until it stops, so that the first driving roller 112 has zero angular velocity about the engaged portion of the arc in the gap between the curved peripheral segment 112 a of FIG First drive roller 112 and the associated roller of the two idler rollers 154 to stop (see Fig. 7c).
- the second stepping motor M 2 is deactivated by the controller, the speed is reduced until it stops, so that the first drive roller 112 has zero angular velocity about the engaged portion of the arc in the gap between the bent peripheral segment 122 a of the second Drive roller 122 and the associated roller of the two idler rollers 154 to stop.
- Fig. 7c the speed is reduced until it stops, so that the first drive roller 112 has zero angular velocity about the engaged portion of the arc in the gap between the bent peripheral segment 122 a of the second Drive roller 122 and the associated roller of the two idler rollers 154 to stop.
- the sensor 162b detects the sheet leading edge due to the angle ⁇ of the sheet S before the sensor 162a detects the leading edge.
- the stepper motor M 2 is therefore deactivated before deactivation of the stepping motor M 1 .
- the portion of the arc in the gap between the arcuate circumferential segment 122a of the second drive roller 122 and the associated roller of the two idler rollers 154 is substantially retained (ie, not moved in the direction of the sheet transport path P) while the portion of the arc in the gap is between the bent peripheral segment 112a of the first drive roller 112 and the associated roller of the two idler rollers 154 is further moved in the forward direction.
- the sheet S rotates substantially about its center A until the stepper motor M 1 is deactivated. This rotation straightens the sheet by an angle ⁇ (substantially complementary to the angle ⁇ ) and eliminates the bow skew with respect to the sheet transport path P to accurately align its leading edge.
- a sensor 164 such as a sensor set (either optically or mechanically, as in FIG Described with respect to other sensors of the sheet register system 100) incorporated in Transverse orientation is aligned accurately (see Fig. 5) detects a side edge of the sheet S and generates a signal indicating the position of this side edge.
- the signal from the sensor 164 is provided to the controller 220 where the operating program determines the distance (eg, distance d in FIG. 5) of the center A of the arc to the centerline C L of the sheet transport path P.
- the first stepping motor M 1 and the second stepping motor M 2 are activated.
- the first drive roller 112 and the second drive roller 122 then start to start the transport of the sheet in the downstream direction (see Fig. 7d).
- the stepper motors ramp up to a speed such that the drive rollers of the drive assembly n 102, 104 and 106 are rotated at an angular velocity that produces a predetermined peripheral speed for the respective portions of the arcuate circumferential segments.
- This predetermined peripheral speed is, for example, substantially equal to the speed of the web W (see Fig. 1). Although other predetermined circumferential speeds are suitable, it is important that this speed be substantially equal to the speed of the web W when the sheet S contacts the web.
- the rotation of the third drive rollers 132 also begins when the first stepper motor M 1 is activated.
- the arcuate peripheral segments 132a of the third drive rollers 132 are not in contact with the sheet S and do not act on it.
- the arcuate peripheral segments 132a engage the arc (in the gap between the arcuate circumferential segments 132a and the associated rollers of the two idler rollers 156) and after a certain angular rotation, the arcuate circumferential segments 112a and 122a of the first and second drive rollers, respectively, release the arc (FIG. see Fig.
- the control over the sheet is thus transferred from the formed by the curved peripheral segments of the first and second drive rollers and the two idler rollers 154 column to the curved peripheral segments of the third drive rollers and the two idler rollers 156 such that the sheet only under control of the third drive rollers 132nd is transported on the sheet transport path P.
- the controller 220 activates the third stepper motor M 3 at a predetermined time. Based on the signal received from the sensor 164 and the operating system of the controller 220, the first stepper motor M 3 drives the third drive assembly 106 through the previously described pulley / belt assembly 138 in a corresponding direction and over a corresponding distance in the transverse direction.
- the arc in the gaps between the arcuate peripheral segments of the third drive rollers 132 and the associated rollers of the two idler rollers 156 is thereby transported in a transverse direction to a location at which the center A of the arc coincides with the centerline C L of the sheet transport path P to provide desired, accurate transverse alignment of the sheet.
- the third drive rollers 132 further transport the sheet along the Sheet transport path P at a speed substantially equal to the Speed of the web W is until the leading edge comes to rest on the web, in precise alignment with the image arranged on the web 1. Zu At this time, the angular rotation of the third drive rollers 132 releases the bent ones Circumferential segments 132a of these rollers from the sheet S (see Fig. 7f). Because the curved Circumferential segments 112a and 122a of the first and second drive rollers 112, 122, respectively also have no contact with the sheet, the sheet with the web W without The action of any forces run along, otherwise by the drive rollers acted on the bow.
- the stepper motors M 1 , M 2 and M 3 become for a time dependent on signals received from the respective sensors 118, 128 and 150 sent to the controller, activated and then deactivated. These sensors are, as previously described, home position sensors. Therefore, when the stepper motors are deactivated, the first, second, and third drive rollers are in their respective home position.
- the drive assembly n 102, 104, 106 of the sheet register system 100 of the present invention are therefore in the position shown in FIG. 7a, and the sheet register system is ready to provide skew correction and tailor-made alignment for the next sheet transported on the sheet transport path P. and longitudinal direction.
- the improved alignment method of the invention reduces the Error range in that all increments of the alignment process with a Encoder are driven, which has a higher resolution.
- Fig. 8 shows a schematic representation of a stepper motor controller for use in the device according to the invention and the method according to the invention.
- One Coding wheel 200 is associated with the transfer roller R (FIG. 1). While the roller turns, the markings on the code wheel also move and interrupt one Light beam from a light source 202, wherein a photo-measuring 204, the presence of or the absence of a light beam detected.
- Other forms of encoders that use magnetic markers or move linearly and not rotating also usable, since the structural details of the coder for the invention is not of are essential.
- the photo-measuring converter 204 generates on the line 208 electrical pulses 206; These pulses come with the movement of the transfer roller R and the moving web W synchronized.
- the switching and control unit 210 at which is a microprocessor operating according to an operating program can, initiated a programmed control via the line 212 of a programmable Pulse generator 214, in turn, a series of stepper motor pulses 216 via a Line 218 generated.
- the switching and control unit 210 and the Pulse generator 214 form a register system controller 220.
- the stepper motor M 1 is mechanically connected via a drive coupling to a drive element, such as the first drive roller 112 which is in engagement with the sheet S.
- the second stepper motor is similarly connected to the second drive roller to give the sheet S a similar drive.
- the programmed drive of the stepper motors which will be explained in more detail below, is provided to correct for a possible skew of the sheet, to drive the sheet at a speed approximately equal to that of the image bearing member, and to feed the sheet to the image bearing member at the right time , so that an accurate transverse alignment is guaranteed.
- a third stepper motor is provided to drive the third drive assembly to achieve the transverse orientation, as previously discussed.
- a programmable Timer serve as a pulse generator. This embodiment will be described below Referring to the schematic representation in Fig. 9 and to the flowchart of Fig. 10 discussed.
- a register system controller 220 includes a programmable timer 302, such as the Type 9513 System Timing Controller manufactured by Advanced Micro Devices, or an equivalent timer.
- the timer is assigned two output lines, namely Out1 and Out2.
- Line Out1 is connected to a drive input of a first stepper motor M 1 via line 118a.
- line Out2 is connected to a drive input of a second stepper motor M 2 via line 118b.
- the timer includes as input a line 208 which transmits encoder pulses 206, which in turn are generated in synchronization with the rotation of the transfer roller R, as previously described.
- the timer 302 is controlled by the switching and control unit 210 via line 212.
- the switch and control unit 210 comprises a central processing unit, memory and various associated input / output means for passing the control data to the timer 302.
- the switch and control unit receives input data via the gap sensors 160a, 160b and the track length sensors 162a, 162b.
- the timer comprises a first register (REG 1) and a first counter (CTRI) associated with the register.
- REG 1 first register
- CTRI first counter
- the count may be made by counting down the number of clock pulses, starting with the count until it reaches zero before the stepper motor drive pulse is delivered. Then a new count is loaded from the associated register into the counter, the register in turn receiving the count from the switch and control unit. The counting process repeats to generate the next stepper motor drive pulse.
- a programmed series of stepper motor pulses can be generated at uneven intervals. Equal intervals of stepper motor pulses can be achieved either by holding the same count value in the counter or register, or by continuously reloading the same count value from the switch and control unit into the associated register which stores and uses the count value to load the counter or adjust.
- the programmable counter (CTR1) responds to encoder pulses 206 from the photo-measuring converter 204 on line 208.
- the series of stepper motor drive pulses generated by the counter (CTR1) is output on line Out1.
- a second register (REG2) and a second programmable counter (CTR2) are also provided to count on encoder 208 encoder pulses. Since the register (REG2) can be charged by the switching and control unit with different count values, the stepper motor pulses generated by the second counter (CTR2) may be differently spaced when output from line Out 2 and not from line Out1.
- the switch and control unit controls the timer 302 by providing appropriate count values for controlling the stepper motors M 1 and M 2 .
- the timer 302 counts down from each count value provided by the switching and control unit 210 and then outputs a stepper motor drive pulse on the corresponding output line.
- a stepper motor drive pulse is generated in response to the encoder pulse, the timer 302 is switched to an operating mode in which the rising edge of the corresponding encoder pulse on line 208 generates a stepper motor pulse on an output line, such as Out 1.
- an encoder index pulse signal (F-PERF) is detected (step S 102), and a count (S 104) of the encoder pulses begins in a counter associated with the switch and control unit.
- step S106 the receiving sheet has been fed into or fed to the skew register device 10, and it has been determined in response to the gap sensors 160a, 160b whether the sheet has been detected or not detected.
- step S108 the operation of the two stepper motors M 1 , M 2 is activated according to preprogrammed profiles (step S108).
- the stepper motors are operable with a controlled profile in that the switch and control unit inputs different count values into the registers of the programmable timer 302.
- a counter in the timer counts the encoder pulses and decrements the count in the register.
- an output value is provided on the corresponding output line serving as a pulse to drive the corresponding stepper motor.
- a new count can be loaded into the register.
- a controlled series of stepping motor pulses 216a, 216b may be generated at predetermined time intervals by selecting the individual count values placed in the register by signals from the switching and control unit.
- a shift register may be provided with a programmed series of digital ones and zeros as data.
- the switch and control unit may generate clock pulses which are used to shift data from the register to the output line of the shift register connected to the stepper motor.
- the digital ones may serve, for example, as stepper motor drive pulses.
- the switch and control unit is programmed to load a predetermined set of digital numbers representing count values successively into each of the registers. These numbers may be sequentially loaded into each register used to activate each stepper motor to provide a drive profile that causes the transport of a receive sheet within the register device.
- Each stepping motor M 1 , M 2 is driven independently of others, wherein the stepping motor M 1 is driven by pulses on the output line Out 1 of the timer to which the stepping motor M 1 is connected.
- the output on line Out 1 is generated by pulses from the counter (CTR1) programmed with count values stored in the register (REG1).
- the stepper motor M 2 is driven by stepping pulses on the output line Out 2 of the timer to which the stepping motor M 2 is connected.
- the output on line Out 2 is generated by pulses from the counter (CTR2) programmed with count values stored in the register (REG2).
- step S110a, S110b When the leading edge of the receiving sheet is detected by the track longitudinal sensors 162a, 162b, a signal for the switching and control unit is generated (step S110a, S110b). In response to this signal, a set of programmed count values are sequentially placed in the respective timer registers to produce a series of pulses on the respective stepper motor drive line, ie, either 118a or 118b, thereby generating a deceleration velocity profile to stop the corresponding stepper motor (Step S112a, S112b). When the two stepping motors are stopped, a skew of the arc is corrected to an accuracy of a motor driving step (step S114). The system is then prepared to accelerate the signature to approximately the speed of the moving web W.
- the acceleration of the trajectory begins at a predetermined number of encoder pulses after the first capture of F-PERF.
- This predetermined number can be 2000 encoder pulses.
- the predetermined value is stored in a non-volatile memory in the switching and control unit 210.
- a set of programmed count values are sequentially placed in the respective timer registers to produce a series of pulses on the respective stepper motor drive lines 118a , 118b, causing the stepper motors M 1 , M 2 to accelerate the movement of the receiver sheet S to web speed (steps S118a, S118b).
- a series of four counts may be used to accelerate the signature S to the speed of the electrophotographic film.
- the fourth and last value loaded into each of the counter registers is five, which in turn generates a stepper motor drive pulse after five encoder pulses.
- the sheet S advances approximately at the speed of the moving web W.
- the count value of five is then maintained whereby the timer generates a series of evenly spaced stepper motor drive pulses because the counter progressively counts down the count of the encoder pulses starting at the same count value and, upon reaching the zero value, drives a stepper motor drive pulse outputs.
- the stepper motors M 1 , M 2 are driven so as to maintain a speed of the arc S which is approximately equal to the movement of the image I on the photosensitive web.
- the register device maintains the drive speed until the sheet S is fed to the image-bearing member.
- step S120 a count of the stepping pulses for the stepping motor M 1 starts.
- step S122 the driving of a third stepping motor to the third drive driving section starts to perform the transverse alignment (step S124). This usually happens after step S118, S118b.
- the transverse alignment (steps S126) is completed before the sheet meets the moving web W.
- Another preferred embodiment of the present invention limits the error range in the alignment process by considering a possible overcorrection in the skew correction phase.
- the skew correction is performed by braking the stepping motors M 1 , M 2 after detecting the leading edge of the sheet by the track longitudinal sensors 162a, 162b.
- the deceleration occurs in an integer number of steps of each stepper motor, each step falling within a programmed number of encoder pulses. Because each step of a stepping motor requires a finite amount of time (which is approximately equal to the duration of five encoder pulses), it is possible for the longitudinal tracking to occur within one step. However, the deceleration program is not started before the beginning of the next step.
- the sheet S moves a part of a step beyond the optimum stopping point. This can lead to residual skew as well as positional or timing errors that are not corrected.
- This problem is solved by determining the time difference between the longitudinal detection and the actual start of the deceleration program. The braking program is then delayed taking into account this error by a corresponding period. The process will be explained in more detail with reference to the flowchart in FIG. 11.
- the switching and control unit 210 starts a high frequency timer to determine the period between the longitudinal detection and the beginning of the next stepping motor driving step coincident with the beginning of the Deceleration program coincides (steps S212a, S212b).
- the time delay step (S211a, S211b) is performed independently for each stepper motor M 1 , M 2 .
- the duration of the delay time is then converted into an integer number of encoder pulses (steps S215a, S215b).
- the number Y 1 , Y 2 of the encoder pulses is determined independently for each of the stepper motors M 1 , M 2 .
- the corresponding number of Y 1, Y 2 of the correcting encoder pulses is then added to the delay counter for each stepper motor in steps S216A, S216b, so that the beginning of the acceleration program (steps S218a, S218b) by a further Y 1 or Y 2 encoder pulses is delayed.
- the time duration between the successive stepping motor pulses 216 may be 253 ⁇ s, for example. This corresponds to five consecutive encoder pulses.
- each encoder pulse corresponds to one-fifth of a stepper motor pulse duration, or about 50 ⁇ s.

Description
The present invention relates to electrophotographic reproduction apparatuses and Method for aligning sheets and in particular apparatus and method for Controlling a stepper motor drive to control the movement of a receiver sheet in Transmission relationship with an image-bearing element on which an on the Receiving sheet is arranged to be transmitted image.
In known electrophotographic copiers, printers or duplicators that is Problem of the accurate alignment of a receiving sheet, even as register-accurate Positioning referred to, with a moving element known, on which a picture is arranged for transfer to the bow. For this purpose, reference is made in particular to the US-A-5,322,273.
The prior art typically becomes an electrophotographic latent image formed on the element, this image is toned and either directly to one Reception sheet transmitted or an intermediate imaging element and then on the receipt sheet. When transporting the receiver sheet into the area of the image-bearing element in which the image is transmitted, it is important to correct existing skew of the bow. Once the skew of the bow has been corrected, it is supported by stepper-motorized rollers to the image Element transported further. During the skew correction, the adjustment is made by selectively driving the stepper motor driven rollers independently of the Movement of the image bearing member are controllable. Typically, the movement is of the receiving bow and the related, through various stations performed processing operations using one or more encoders controlled. Known alignment control systems use a transfer roller that has a Coding wheel is assigned. This encoder is used to control the sheet orientation used. After correcting the bow for skew and before intervening the bow in the area of the image-bearing element in which the image is transmitted, the Control of the stepper motors that drive the rollers, which in turn turns the bow vortransportieren, of simulated clock pulses of a microprocessor on the actual clock pulses generated by the encoder wheel.
A disadvantage of these systems is that when switching the Stepper motor control of the synchronization with control signals in the Slant correction device on the encoder wheel, a stepper motor control pulse can get lost. This results in a position inaccuracy between the Receiving sheet and the photoconductor, so that no precise alignment can be achieved.
In US-A-5,731,680 an improved alignment device is described. But This improved device is based on a transition of the stepper motor control of simulated clock signals to the clock pulses generated by the encoder wheel. The relatively low resolution of the encoder wheels, conventionally in Alignment systems are used, limiting the accuracy during the Transition of the stepper motor controller can be achieved. In US-A-4 519 700, which is accurate to one clock pulse Control of stepper motors described as sufficient. The present invention is therefore The object of the invention, improved method and an improved device for Ensuring a perfect alignment of the receiver sheet and the provide image-bearing element.

The
A third, independent stepping motor M 3 , which is attached to the

Abstandswalzenlager 112b, 122b eingreifen.The
durchlaufen, passgenau ausrichtbar, indem jeglicher Schräglauf (winklige Abweichung)
Markierungspartikelbildes auf der Bahn W).With the construction described above for the
Bogenregistersystems. In order to eliminate skew as desired and to achieve a proper alignment in the transverse and longitudinal directions, the mechanical elements of the
Entfernung d in Fig. 5).
Bogen unterschiedlich. In order to explain the operation of the
Two
Mittellinie selbstverständlich gleichzeitig erkannt).When the
P im Wesentlichen ohne Unterbrechung weiter transportiert (siehe Fig. 7b).As shown in FIG. 6, when activated by the
When the second first stepping motor M 2 is activated by the

When the
auszurichten. When the first stepping motor M 1 is deactivated by the
Once the bow skew has been eliminated, as in the previous description
of the first part of the operating cycle of the
The signal from the
Bogen frei (siehe Fig. 7e).
With respect to the clutch assembly for the
Once the sheet is under sole control of the
The
At the time when the first, second and third drive rollers are all disengaged from the arc, the stepper motors M 1 , M 2 and M 3 become for a time dependent on signals received from the
As previously mentioned, there is a problem with the register mechanism of known systems

Fig. 8 shows a schematic representation of a stepper motor controller for use in

As described above, the stepper motor M 1 is mechanically connected via a drive coupling to a drive element, such as the
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, a programmable Timer serve as a pulse generator. This embodiment will be described below Referring to the schematic representation in Fig. 9 and to the flowchart of Fig. 10 discussed.
In ähnlicher
Übertragungswalze R erzeugt werden, wie zuvor beschrieben.9 shows a schematic representation of a preferred embodiment of the invention wherein a
Schrittmotorantriebsimpulses.
Ausgabeleitung, wie Out 1, erzeugt.The
Schrittmotoren M1, M2 entsprechend vorprogrammierter Profile aktiviert (Schritt S108).
In
The operation of the preferred embodiment of the invention will be discussed below with reference to FIG. Initially, an encoder index pulse signal (F-PERF) is detected (step S 102), and a count (S 104) of the encoder pulses begins in a counter associated with the switch and control unit. In step S106, the receiving sheet has been fed into or fed to the skew register device 10, and it has been determined in response to the
The switch and control unit is programmed to load a predetermined set of digital numbers representing count values successively into each of the registers. These numbers may be sequentially loaded into each register used to activate each stepper motor to provide a drive profile that causes the transport of a receive sheet within the register device. Each stepping motor M 1 , M 2 is driven independently of others, wherein the stepping motor M 1 is driven by pulses on the output line Out 1 of the timer to which the stepping motor M 1 is connected. The output on line Out 1 is generated by pulses from the counter (CTR1) programmed with count values stored in the register (REG1). Similarly, the stepper motor M 2 is driven by stepping pulses on the output line Out 2 of the timer to which the stepping motor M 2 is connected. The output on line Out 2 is generated by pulses from the counter (CTR2) programmed with count values stored in the register (REG2).
In
When the leading edge of the receiving sheet is detected by the track
The transverse alignment takes place via an independent control path. In step S120, a count of the stepping pulses for the stepping motor M 1 starts. When 280 step pulses are counted (step S122), the driving of a third stepping motor to the third drive driving section starts to perform the transverse alignment (step S124). This usually happens after step S118, S118b. The transverse alignment (steps S126) is completed before the sheet meets the moving web W.
Another preferred embodiment of the present invention limits the error range in the alignment process by considering a possible overcorrection in the skew correction phase. As described above, the skew correction is performed by braking the stepping motors M 1 , M 2 after detecting the leading edge of the sheet by the track
