Description

The present invention relates to a spraying device for applying a liquid in a printing press according to the preamble of claim 1 and to a method for applying a liquid in a printing press according to the preamble of claim 14.

Offset printing machines usually include a blanket cylinder, which prints the images of a printing plate on a web, z. B. a paper web transmits. The blanket arranged on the blanket cylinder usually has a printing outer layer of rubber.

In particular, after long use accumulate on the blanket in the printing press foreign body, eg. As dried paint, lint, dust, dirt, etc. These must be removed at regular intervals in a cleaning process. In particular, when changing jobs, for example, a cleaning of the blanket should be performed. Poorly cleaned blankets affect the print quality and productivity of the press.

No. 5,388,510 discloses a spray dampening unit for a printing machine which has spray nozzles arranged in the axial direction along the surface of a roller to be moistened, wherein the individual spray nozzles can be partially covered by respective panels. However, this device has the disadvantage that the respective apertures of the individual nozzles must be synchronized in a mechanical or electrical manner to z. B. side areas of the roller not to wet with the spray generated by the nozzle.

US 5,257,578 discloses an automatic cleaning apparatus for cleaning blankets in a web-fed rotary offset printing machine. A brush roller is optionally attached to the blanket to remove foreign matter from the blanket. On the brush roller, a washing solution is applied to improve the cleaning effect.

The wash solution for such cleaning devices is typically applied through a spray bar which applies a cleaning solution or solvent through a series of holes distributed across the entire width of the brush. In this way, the cleaning solution is applied over the brush on the entire blanket during the cleaning process. If the web in the printing press is as wide as the blanket, it is desirable that the blanket be cleaned across its entire width.

Often, however, narrower webs are printed in an offset printing press. For example, even though it is possible to print a 144.78 cm (57 inch) wide web in a printing press, a 76.2 cm (30 inch) wide web can be printed on the same press if the final product to be produced requires it , In this case, the cleaning solution is still applied by the spray bar washing system across the entire width of the brush and the blanket cylinder. Because many cleaning systems require the web to remove debris during the wash cycle, the 76.2 cm wide web is insufficient to remove the debris and spent cleaning solution in the areas beyond the web width. In these areas cleaning solution is thus applied, which is not removed again from the web. Accordingly, cleaning solution is applied to an approximately 68 cm (27 inch) wide blanket of the blanket cylinder, although there is no web in this area.

The application of cleaning solution in the areas outside the web width causes an excess of spent cleaning solution or used solvent, as this is waste and is not reused. Disposal of the u. U. environmentally harmful solvent can be very costly.

In addition, there is a risk that the excess solvent penetrates into the narrow web during the printing process and there dissolves the color, resulting in a deterioration of the print quality. This impairment in turn leads to a Increased waste paper waste, since the finished printed products often appear washed out or are unreadable and thus must be disposed of.

The spray device comprises two nozzles movable axially with respect to a printing cylinder. The liquid can be used to clean a blanket. The nozzles are automatically controlled and can be moved axially over the entire width or depending on the material to be printed over part of the desired width of the blanket cylinder.

The device described in this document has the disadvantage that the desired width of the blanket is not sprayed at once, but in sections, by moving the nozzles axially. Therefore, it takes more time to spray a desired width. The movement and control of the nozzles also requires a complicated arrangement that is susceptible to interference and contamination.

An adjustment of the width of the spray area along the spray bar is not possible.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a spraying apparatus which allows the width of a spray area to be set with few resources. Furthermore, it is an object of the present invention to provide a method of applying a liquid, thereby enabling adjustment of the width of a spray area in a simple and effective manner.

This object is achieved by a device according to claim 1 and by a method according to claim 14.

A spraying device according to the invention for applying a liquid, in particular a cleaning solution, to a component in a printing press, wherein the spraying device comprises a spray bar with at least one outlet opening and a rotatable spray aperture for at least partially covering the at least one outlet opening, and wherein the spray bar substantially parallel to the component, in particular substantially over the width of the component extending, is arranged, wherein the spray orifice a substantially has parallel to the spray bar aligned axis of rotation, is characterized in that the spray orifice has at least one opening with dependent on the respective rotational position of the spray orifice width for adjusting the width of a Sprühbereichs along the spray bar.

The spray device according to the invention effects a simple and effective adjustment of the width of the spray area by the axis of rotation of the spray orifice, which is oriented substantially parallel to the spray bar, and by the at least one opening of the spray orifice, which has a width dependent on the respective rotational position of the spray orifice. In this case, the apparatus has a reduced susceptibility to errors due to the low number of technical means used compared with the prior art, but at the same time allows to set or determine a desired width of the spray area with sufficiently high precision. Thus, z. For example, with a single spray orifice, it is advantageous to cover a plurality of openings in the spray bar, and so e.g. Side areas of the component in the press are excluded from the spraying process.

Another advantage of a device according to the invention is that it builds very compact by the parallel alignment of the spray bar and the axis of rotation of the spray diaphragm and thus can be easily installed or retrofitted in printing units, which have only very confined interiors.

Furthermore, there is the advantage that only a single aperture is to be adjusted, resulting in a time saving both in the width adjustment of the spray area as well as the necessary maintenance, cleaning and repair work.

The at least one outlet opening and the at least one opening are preferably located at one end or at both ends of the spray bar, so that a width of the spray area is adjustable. It is to be understood with the ends of the spray bar, the respective end portion of the extending in the axial direction spray bar, which may be located at the one and at the other end of the spray bar in the presence of multiple openings in the spray bar. This will make it in advantageously possible to limit the spray area of the spray bar from the sides, for example symmetrically to an imaginary center line.

The spray bar is preferably at least as wide as the component of the printing press. A spray bar having a width at least equal to the width of the component of the printing machine to be sprayed allows the component, e.g. to spray evenly over its entire width. In this case, the spray orifice may also extend at least over the entire width of the component and thus make it possible to adjust the width of the spray area over this width.

The component of the printing machine may be formed as a cleaning brush for a blanket or as a blanket of an offset printing machine.

Furthermore, it can be provided that the at least one outlet opening is formed as a plurality of bores, and that the part to be concealed of the at least one outlet opening is at least one of the bores, which is arranged at one end or at both ends of the spray bar. In the presence of several holes in the spray bar, these are preferably arranged at the same distance from each other and extend over the entire width of the spray bar, so that by turning the spray hood, for example. successive holes can be covered from the end portions of the spray bar to an imaginary center of the spray bar, thereby defining an effective spray area.

The at least one opening may be formed as a single opening with at least one oblique edge. Advantageously, the oblique edge of the opening in the rotatable spray orifice allows the effective spray area of the device to be adjusted since the oblique edge of the orifice in the spray orifice has different axial extensions in different rotational positions of the spray orifice.

The spray orifice may comprise two cylinders, each having an opening. The two cylinders can preferably only the end portions of a common spray bar However, it is also possible that the two cylinders extend together over the entire width of the spray bar and, for example, border or abut one another in the region of an imaginary center of the spray bar.

The two cylinders are preferably located at the respective ends of the spray bar and separated from a non-concealable area of the spray device.

The spray orifice can be manually adjustable. Alternatively, however, an automatic adjustment device for adjusting the rotational position of the spray diaphragms may also be provided. In this case, a sensor may further be provided for determining the web width and for generating a feedback to the automatic setting device.

The liquid retained by the spray orifice can be collected in a collection device.

An inventive method for applying a liquid, in particular a cleaning solution, on a component of a printing machine, wherein a spray bar with at least one outlet opening and a rotatable spray orifice for at least partially covering the at least one outlet opening are provided, and wherein the spray bar substantially parallel to the component is arranged, in particular extending substantially over the width of the component, provides that at least one opening is formed in the spray orifice with dependent on the respective rotational position of the spray orifice width, and that the spray orifice for adjusting the width of a Sprühbereichs along the spray bar is rotated about a substantially parallel to the spray bar aligned axis of rotation.

A web is preferably passed over the center of a blanket cylinder. By a substantially center-centered guidance of the web over the blanket cylinder, it is advantageously possible to carry out the method according to the invention such that side areas of the blanket cylinder to be cleaned, for example, remain unwetted outside an effective spray area. The width of the effective spray area substantially with the width of the web, for example a material or paper web, match.

Alternatively, however, the web may be passed over one side of a blanket cylinder. In this case, with the method according to the invention and with a device according to the invention, it is possible to leave the region of the blanket cylinder, which is not in contact with the web, unsprayed.

The features of the present invention will become more apparent from the following description of preferred embodiments taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings below.

Fig. 1 shows a preferred embodiment of the present invention in an offset printing unit 3. A web 1 passes between two blanket cylinders 10, 20 through which flat or sleeve-shaped blankets may be applied. The blankets are contacted by printing plates applied to plate cylinders 12 and 22, respectively. Each of the plate cylinders is moistened by means of a dampening unit 14, 24.

During printing, paint and fountain solution are applied to the plate cylinder 12, so that an image formed on the plate on the plate cylinder 12 is transferred to a blanket on the blanket cylinder 10 and then to the web 1.

When a blanket is to be cleaned on a blanket cylinder, the cleaning devices 16 and 26 are brought into employment with the respective blanket cylinder 10, 20. In this position, brushes 19, 29, which extend across the width of the respective blanket cylinder 10, 20, made to the blankets. The brushes 19, 29 can rotate during a cleaning process and so clean the blankets.

During the cleaning process, spray bars 17, 27 may be a cleaning solution, e.g. As a solvent, spray on the brush. The cleaning solution helps to remove accumulated paint residues and other foreign particles on the blankets. The cleaning solution can also be water.

The spray bars 17, 27 spray a liquid through openings in a respective spray orifice 18, 28. Depending on the width of the web 1, the respective spray orifice 18, 28 is adjusted so that the agent sprayed by the spray bars 17, 27 passes through an opening, which is substantially as wide as the web 1. An optical sensor 70 may be provided to measure the web width and to provide feedback to an automatic actuator for the spray orifices 18, 28.

The excess cleaning solution retained by the spray orifices 18, 28 collects at the bottom of the cylindrical orifice and may be collected in collection devices 15, 25 which return the cleaning solution to a reservoir. The spray orifices 18, 28 may be sloped slightly inclined or have a sloped drain to assist in collecting the retained cleaning solution.

As shown in FIG. 2, a preferred embodiment of a spray orifice 18 includes two cylinders 318, 418, each enclosing one end of the spray bar 17. As discharge openings, the spray bar 17 has a plurality of outlet openings 60, which are distributed over the width of the spray bar 17 at a uniform spacing. Between the cylinders 318, 418 may remain an unenclosed portion 117, which preferably constitutes one third of the width of the spray bar 17. The cylinders 318, 418 each have an opening 350 and 450 with an oblique edge 351 and 451, respectively. The edges 351 and 451 extend at an angle with respect to an axis of the spray bar 17th

The cylinders 318 and 418 are rotatable about the spray bar 17 and z. B. held by bearings around the spray bar 17 around. By means of a manual adjustment device 71, the cylinder 318 can be rotated so that the spray liquid exiting the outlet openings 62 at one end of the spray bar 17 is retained by the cylinder 318 and does not reach the brush or blanket of the printing machine. After a desired rotation of the cylinder 318, the adjustment device 71 z. B. be locked by means of a screw. Depending on the rotation of the cylinder 318, the sloping edge 351 causes more or less exit openings 60 to be obscured to vary the width of the spray area. The cylinder 418 may be connected to the cylinder 318 via a linkage that does not interfere with the discharge ports 60 so as to rotate therewith. Alternatively, the cylinder 418 may be equipped with its own actuator.

Regardless of its width, the web 1 typically moves in the middle of the blanket cylinders 10, 20 between them. In an alternative embodiment, however, the cylinder 418 is not provided. Here runs the web 1 on the side of the printing press and the blanket cylinder 10, 20, on which the cylinder 418 would be located. The width of the blanket cylinders 10, 20 reaching spray area can be adjusted in this way by means of a single cylinder 318.

Fig. 3 shows a further embodiment of the present invention, in which a spray orifice 118 has a plurality of openings 51, 52, 53, all different are wide. Preferably, the widths each correspond to a common web width. The orifice 118 can be rotated and adjusted with respect to the spray bar 17 as indicated by the arrow 48, so that the outlet openings 60 of the spray bar 17 spraying liquid through the desired opening 51, 52, 53. The outlet openings 60 are distributed over the entire width of the spray bar 17 and preferably arranged in a row.

Depending on the angle of rotation of the diaphragm 218 with respect to the spray bar 17, the spray jets are retained by the edges 55, 56.

The rotation of the apertures 18, 118, 218 can be done either manually or by means of an automatic turning device. An embodiment of an automatic turning device is shown in FIG.

As shown in Fig. 5, a bracket 30 of a pneumatic cylinder 31 is attached to the spray bar 17 (or other stationary part). At the other end of the air cylinder is a cam follower 32, which sits in a curve 40 in the interior of the aperture 18. The air cylinder 31 is movable between two positions. When the air cylinder 31 moves away in the direction 57 from the position shown in Fig. 5, the cam follower 32 in the gap causes the shutter 18 to rotate in the direction indicated by the arrow 58 to a second position. Preferably, two compressed air cylinders are connected in series, so that the diaphragm 18 is movable in four positions.

The aperture 18, however, z. B. also be manually moved and adjusted by means of a bolt tensioning device. The aperture 18, 118, 218 may be continuously adjustable or movable in preferred rotational positions, the z. B. be predetermined by a ball catch. There are also other types of automatic adjustment conceivable, for. B. also connected to a motor simple gear, which is located at one end of the aperture 18.

The rotatable bezel may also have sliding wings, by means of which the width of the aperture can be adjusted.

Although the liquid outlet has been shown as a plurality of holes, a single thin slot may be provided as the outlet.

The panels 18, 118, 218 are shown as desired in the drawings at a greater distance to the spray bar 17 for reasons of clarity. The distance between the spray orifice 18, 118, 218 and the spray bar 17 is preferably less than about one inch and more preferably less than one-half inch. A certain distance is desired, although not absolutely necessary, so that the pressure of the spray jet emerging from the uncovered section of the spray bar does not increase significantly. Such an increase in pressure could result in more spray fluid being applied to the blanket than desired.
