Definitions

  • the invention relates to a connector for mounting on a printed circuit board, comprising a carrier body, at least one surface-mounted contact element, which is arranged in the carrier body, and at least one push-through contact element, which is also arranged in the carrier body.
  • Connectors are known whose contact elements are formed as through-hole contact elements, so are inserted into a hole through the conductor of the circuit board. This results in a high mechanical strength of the connection between the printed circuit board and the contact element of the connector.
  • connectors whose contact elements are designed as surface-mounted contact elements, so are soldered onto the conductor track.
  • the resulting solder joint offers only a comparatively low mechanical strength, especially with shear loads.
  • a higher signal transmission speed between contact element and conductor can be achieved.
  • an electrical connector for printed circuit boards in which an insulating housing a plurality of electrical contacts is provided, wherein at least one contact as a press-fit contact in a plated-through hole of the circuit board and at least one other contact as an abutment contact the surface of the circuit board is formed as a contact contact.
  • the object of the invention is to provide a connector which allows high signal transmission speed at a connection between the printed circuit board and connector with high mechanical strength, at the same time slidable connection elements are provided which compensate for PCB surface tolerances occur.
  • the surface mount contact element is provided with a connection region on which a connection element is arranged, which is displaceable relative to the connection region.
  • the through-hole contact element is a ground contact. This design is advantageous because then the lower signal transmission speed hardly affects.
  • the push-through contact element may also be used generally for signal transmission on signals having a low frequency.
  • the through-hole contact element serves as a shield between the two sets of surface-mount contact elements used for signal transmission, resulting in high crosstalk attenuation.
  • the surface-mounted contact element is provided with a connection region on which a connection element is arranged, which is displaceable relative to the connection region.
  • a connector is shown. This is an angled spring bar, since the individual contacts are angled at 90 ° and are formed on the connection side of the connector as a contact springs.
  • the complementary connector which is inserted into the connector shown, is accordingly a male connector.
  • the embodiment shown can also be designed as a male connector.
  • the connector has a plurality of contacts, which in several adjacent columns are arranged. In the sectional view of Figure 1, only a single one of these columns can be seen.
  • the connector shown has an insulating support body 10 in which two surface-mount contact elements 20 are arranged twice and a through-mount contact element 38 which separates the two sets of surface-mount contact elements 20 from each other.
  • the through-mounting contact element 38 may be connected to a ground conductor and serves as a shield between the two groups of surface-mount contact elements 20 which serve to transmit signals.
  • the connector is used in the assembly with its through-hole contact element in an opening 50 of a printed circuit board 52, on the previously in the appropriate places a solder paste was applied. In this state, the connector is pre-fixed. Subsequently, the soldering of the contact elements, so that the desired electrical connection with the conductor tracks is achieved.
  • FIG. 2 shows a plug connector according to a first embodiment of the invention.
  • three contact elements are used, namely an internal through-hole contact element 38 which engages an opening 50 of a printed circuit board 52, a central surface mount contact element 20 provided with a terminal region 22 on which a terminal 24 is disposed; and an outboard surface mount contact member 53 provided with a bend at its end facing the circuit board, which rests on the circuit board where it can be connected to a corresponding trace in a surface mount technique.
  • FIG. 3 shows the connection element 24 that is used in the surface-mount contact elements 20 of the connector shown in FIG is used.
  • the connecting element 24 is designed as a resilient clamp with two legs 26 which are connected to each other by means of a bottom 28.
  • a spacer 30 is provided on the side facing away from the terminal portion 22, which is formed as an embossing so that a comparatively sharp vertex is formed.
  • the connecting element 24 is pushed onto the connecting region 22 of the surface-mounted contact element 20 and fixed thereto by the frictional force resulting from the acting clamping force.
  • bent lugs 54 are provided on one of the legs 26 of the connecting element 24, whose opposing surfaces act as guide surfaces 56. These can attack on the narrow outer surfaces of the terminal portions 22 and prevent the terminal member 24 tilts excessively or even slip off.
  • the circuit board is coated with a solder paste at the locations provided for connection to the contact elements.
  • the connector is placed on the circuit board, wherein the through-hole contact element penetrates into the corresponding opening of the circuit board.
  • the assembly position of the contact elements 24 shown in Figure 4a is selected so that the spacer 30 abuts the circuit board before the through-hole contact element 38 is fully inserted into the circuit board.
  • the connecting element 24 immersed in the there previously applied solder paste, wherein the spacer 30 reliably displaces the solder paste with its apex and penetrates, so that it rests on the circuit board.
  • the soldering of the surface-mounted contact elements can be done, which is guaranteed due to the precisely maintained distance between the bottom of the connecting element 24 and the circuit board reliable soldering.
  • This distance between the bottom 28 of the connecting element 24 and the circuit board is not affected by tolerances of the connector or surface irregularities of the circuit board, as any tolerances are compensated by a different wide sliding of the connecting element to the terminal portion 22 of the surface-mount contact element.
