Definitions
- the invention relates to a connector for mounting on a printed circuit board, with a carrier body in which at least one surface mounting contact element is arranged, which has a plug-in area at one end to connect with a complementary connector and on the other End has a connection area with a conductor track PCB can be connected.
- the surface mounting technology offers both in the assembly process as well as in the transmission speed of signals from the surface mount contact element to the conductor track the PCB has several advantages.
- the connector must be especially in the manufacturing process attention to the coplanarity of the connection ends. It has emphasized that the height deviation of the connection areas 0.1 mm must not exceed if all connections are securely soldered should stay.
- Such small tolerances can only either be guaranteed by a very complex manufacturing process, which leads to a product that reliably meets the relevant tolerances or through a sorting process following the manufacturing process, where all connectors are sorted out, which ones do not comply with the required tolerances. But this leads to a high one Reject rate and thus at high overall manufacturing costs.
- solder joint between the contact element and the circuit board is less Has strength as a solder joint with inserted contact elements, especially when subjected to shear stress. This fact is critical on the one hand with regard to the forces acting on the connector when plugged into a complementary connector, and on the other hand with regard to mechanical stresses caused by different Thermal expansion of circuit board and connector or by bending the circuit board.
- the invention is therefore based on the object of a connector type mentioned to the extent that despite a small Manufacturing effort a reliable connection of the connection area of the surface mounting contact element with the conductor track PCB is guaranteed and after soldering is prevented greater mechanical forces act on the solder joint.
- the invention provides that the contact element has a connecting element that is mechanically flexible and electrically connected to the connection area and to the conductor track the circuit board is solderable.
- the connector according to the invention is basically based on the surface mount contact element train in several parts and a predetermined displacement between the different parts, especially the actual contact element and the connecting element, on the one hand for tolerance compensation in the Assembly of the connector and on the other hand for permanent mobility during the operation of the connector.
- the now Automatically adjusting tolerance compensation reduces the requirements the manufacturing process, so that there are lower costs.
- the mechanical decoupling between the circuit board and the surface mounting contact element increases the durability of the solder joints because it Exceeding certain mechanical stresses between the PCB and the contact element to a relative displacement between Connection element and contact element and not to mechanical stress the solder joints comes.
- the connecting element is slidable on the connection area is attached.
- the connector can already before mounting the connector on the circuit board on the Surface mount contact element must be attached and does not have to be separate component can be handled during the assembly process.
- connection element before mounting the connector on the circuit board in is in an assembly position in which it protrudes further from the connector than after assembly. This results in the desired tolerance compensation automatically when the connector is placed on the Printed circuit board, since the above connection elements when placed in the correct position.
- Connection element is a resilient clip that is attached to the connection area attacks.
- the spring action can firstly ensure that the desired contact force even after a long period of operation between the bracket and the connection area of the surface mounting contact element results. Secondly, by the amount of spring force be set what mechanical tension between the surface mount contact element and the connecting element must act before there is a relative shift.
- connection element is spherical. This allows contacting the Connection area from almost every direction, since it is independent of small Relative displacements always two diametrically opposite one another Result in contact points at the connection area.
- the contact element is preferably provided with an insulating body which forms a guide for the bracket.
- the leadership ensures that the clip before installing the connector in the desired one Position is so that it is automatically in the assembly position in shifts the correct position for soldering.
- the leadership is special required in connection with the spherical connection area, since this cannot provide guidance for the bracket.
- the insulating body is preferably provided with contact surfaces for the clip, that face each other at a distance greater than that corresponding dimension of the bracket in this area. This dimensioning the parts relative to each other not only enables translational Displacement of the bracket on the guide, but also a Pan and tilt movement that may be required to mechanical Compensate for voltages as they result from a deflection of the circuit board or from different thermal expansions between connectors and printed circuit board can result.
- connection area has a rectangular cross section. In this case, it already results due to the shape of the connection area, a guide for the connection element.
- the bracket is provided with a plurality of guide surfaces, which on the opposite one another Can attack edges of the connection area. This ensures that the clip does not slide off the side of the connection area.
- the guide surfaces can be on bent lugs of the bracket be educated.
- the resilient Has two legs that engage the connection area, and a bottom that connects the two legs and the circuit board is facing, and that the bottom is provided with a spacer is a predetermined distance between the floor and the PCB guaranteed.
- the spacer prevents the bottom of the Clamp is present on the circuit board during assembly of the connector and the solder paste that was previously applied to the circuit board in it Area completely displaced, resulting in an insufficient solder connection to the Episode.
- the spacer is designed as an elevation which can rest against the circuit board with its apex.
- the peak of the bump forms a tip that makes the solder paste reliable penetrates. This ensures that the spacer is actually on the PCB and not about a solder paste pad, so that the correct distance between the bottom of the bracket and the circuit board is guaranteed.
- connection element connected to the connection area by a bonding wire is.
- another additional component is used, to the electrically conductive connection between the connecting element and to produce the connection area of the contact element.
- the bond wire enables the relative movement of the parts.
- At least a push-through contact element is provided.
- the push-through mounting contact element a certain pre-fixation of the connector after placing on the circuit board and before soldering.
- the push-through mounting contact element ensures the push-through mounting contact element due to its greater holding force in the circuit board a good mechanical fixation of the Connector so that the solder joints of the surface mount contact elements are less stressed on the connector act.
- the push-through assembly contact element is preferably a ground contact, and the surface mount contact element is a signal contact.
- This design takes into account the advantages of a surface mount contact element offers in terms of signal speed; the maximal Signal transmission speed is of secondary importance with a ground contact Importance.
- the connector is a Card edge connector.
- Such connectors are used for a multipole and pluggable connection between a circuit board and a cable or another circuit board for the transmission of electrical signals used.
- the contact elements are in an insulating body in rows and Columns arranged.
- the connector is a coaxial contact connector.
- This configuration too uses the combination of surface mounting contact element and push-through mounting contact element, especially if the surface mount contact element forms a center conductor of a coaxial contact and that Push-through contact element is a ground plate that has an outer conductor of the coaxial contact is connected.
- Push-through contact element is a ground plate that has an outer conductor of the coaxial contact is connected.
- Figures 1 to 4 is a connector according to a first embodiment shown the invention. It is an angled one Coaxial connector intended for mounting on a printed circuit board is.
- the connector has a carrier body, which consists of two housing parts 10, 12 is formed, which consist of metal and in which coaxial plug contacts 14 are included.
- a carrier body which consists of two housing parts 10, 12 is formed, which consist of metal and in which coaxial plug contacts 14 are included.
- the Housing parts 10, 12 are also used plastic that is metallized.
- the housing must be electrically conductive to provide a shield to ensure.
- the two coaxial plug contacts 14 each exist in a known manner from a pin-shaped central conductor 16 and a sleeve-shaped outer conductor 18.
- the sleeve-shaped outer conductor is electrically conductive and stands with the formed from the two housing parts 10, 12 in an electrically conductive housing Connection.
- the center conductor 16 is part of a surface mounting contact element 20, that extends to the connection side of the connector, that is to the Side with which the connector is mounted on the circuit board.
- the surface mounting contact element 20 (see in particular FIG. 3) has a connection area 22 which is spherical.
- the Surface mount contact element 20 also has a connection element 24 on, which is provided at the connection area 22 in electrical to attack the conductive connection.
- the connecting element 24 is here as resilient bracket with two legs 26 formed by means of a bottom 28 are interconnected.
- On the ground is on the connection area 22 facing away from a spacer 30 is provided as Embossing is designed so that a comparatively pointed apex is created. The function of the spacer 30 will be explained later.
- the surface mount contact element 20 also has an insulating body 32, which serves for insulation from the electrically conductive housing.
- an insulating body 32 Around the connection area 22 of the surface mounting contact element 20 around the insulating body 32 is designed as a guide for the connecting element 24.
- the guide consists of a guide web 34 and contact surfaces 36 to limit the guide web 34.
- the contact surfaces 36 are located facing each other at a distance greater than the width of the Leg 26, so that the connecting element 24 in the guide slightly can be tilted.
- the connector is finally on the connection side with a push-through mounting contact element 38 provided that formed as a ground plate is.
- a push-through mounting contact element 38 provided that formed as a ground plate is.
- This stands with that formed by the two housing parts 10, 12 Housing in an electrically conductive connection and has connecting legs 40, which engage in corresponding openings, for example of the printed circuit board, to which the connector is to be mounted, as well as recesses 42, through which the surface mounting contact element extends extends.

- the only difference is that the connecting element 24 is not transverse acts on the connection area 22 in the longitudinal direction of the contact element, but parallel to the longitudinal direction of the contact element on the connection area is postponed.
- the contact as such, which is between the legs of the connection element 24 and the connection area 22 results, remains unchanged because regardless of the direction in which the connection element is pushed onto the connection area, two result in diametrically opposed contact points.
- Figure 6 is a connector according to a second embodiment of the Invention shown. It is a card edge connector, which is used to connect printed circuit boards. He usually points a variety of contacts that are in multiple side by side Columns are arranged. In the sectional view of Figure 6 is to see only one of these columns.
- the embodiment shown is an angled one Female connector, since the individual contacts are angled by 90 ° and formed on the connection side of the connector as contact springs are.
- the complementary connector that is shown in the connector is inserted accordingly is a male connector.
- the one shown Embodiment can of course also be designed as a male connector.
- the housing part 10 forms an insulating in this embodiment Carrier body that can optionally be shielded.

- FIG. 9 shows the connection element 24 which is used for the surface mounting contact elements 20 of the connectors shown in Figures 6 to 8 is used.
- the connection element corresponds in its construction essentially the connecting element known from FIGS. 1 to 4, is however slightly modified.
- connection area of the surface mounting contact elements 20 has in the connectors shown in Figures 6 to 8 a rectangular Cross section on.
- are on one of the Leg 26 of the connecting element 24 is provided with bent lugs 54, whose opposite surfaces act as guide surfaces 56. These can attack on the narrow outer surfaces of the connection areas 22 and prevent the connector 24 from tipping excessively or even slips.
- the assembly of a connector is shown below with reference to FIG described as shown in Figures 6 to 8.
- the connector 24 is in the assembly position after assembly of the connector, as can be seen in Figure 10a.
- the connecting element 24 comparatively far from the connector.
- the connection element 24 on the connection area 22 continues to the center of the connector moved. This relative shift ends as soon as the connector is fully placed on the circuit board 52 and the possibly existing push-through mounting contact elements in the corresponding openings 50 are inserted. In this condition can the connecting element 24 with the corresponding trace of the circuit board 52 are soldered, because of the spacer 30 of the required distance between the bottom of the connecting element and the PCB has set.
