Printing unit of a sheet-fed rotary printing press assembled in modular construction of multiple printing units arranged in a series, the prinling unit comprising a distorsionally stiff side-wall body in the form of a box-shaped cross sectional profile open on one side and having a frame (5) extending essentially at right angles to the side-wall plane, the frame including one or more cutouts in the lower modular part (4a) of the side wall body where the bearings of printing cylinders are provided in said frame for gear wheels of the drive gear train to pass through,
    characterized in that
    the frame (5) in the lower modular part (4a) on the open side of the box-shaped cross-sectional profile is reinforced by a removable cover (8) ribbed on the inside and that the frame (5) is further reinforced in the upper modular part (4b) holding the rollers of an inking unit by means of a removably mounted plate (10).
  2. Printing unit according to Claim 1.
    characterised in that
    the cover (8) is screwed on the frame (5).
  3. Printing units according to one of the Claims 1 to 2,
    characterized in that
    the cover (8) and the frame (5) interlock in a form-locking manner.
  4. Printing units according to one of the preceding Claims,
    characterized in that
    the cover (8) consists of steel or cast iron or of a rigid compound construction.
  5. Printing units according to one of the preceding claims.
    characterized in that
    the cutouts (7) are laterally open to facilitate the mounting of the gear wheels.
  6. Printing units according to one of the preceding claims.
    characterized in that
    the plate (10) provides additional places of support for the inking-unit rollers and transfers axial forces of the distributor rollers directly to the frame 5.
  7. Printing units according to one of the preceding claims,
    characterized in that
    the frame (5) of the side wall runs in a deviating and rebounding fashion between the upper modular part (4b) and the lower modular part (4a) and that reinforcement elements (12), ribs or cross bars are built in the box-shaped cross sectional profile for the reinforcement of the side wall, which connect the deviating part (5a, 5b) of the frame (5) to the bottom part (5c) of the frame (5).
  8. Printing units according to claim 7,
    characterized in that
    the reinforcement elements (12), ribs or cross bars extend on both sides around the bearings of the shafts connecting the gear wheels and the printing cylinders.
  9. Printing unit according to one of the preceding claims.
    characterized in that
    the frame (5) is formed as one piece with regard to the upper modular part (4b) and the lower modular part (4a).
