Abstract

A rapier unit for a rapier loom has a rapier belt (1), which can be equipped with a rapier (3) on its front end (14). The belt is made of plastics and incorporates reinforcing fibres (13), which are located at a distance from the front end (14) of the rapier (1).

Description

The invention relates to a rapier device for a rapier weaving machine with a rapier belt that can be equipped with a rapier at its front end, which is made of plastic and contains reinforcing fibers.

In rapier weaving machines, a weft thread is inserted into the shed with the help of rapiers, the rapiers being fastened on a flexible rapier tape. The gripper belt is driven by a drive wheel and guided in guide means both outside the shed and inside the shed. In order to achieve a stable, linear movement of the rapier in the shed, the rapier tape made of plastic is stiffened with reinforcing fibers according to the prior art (RESEARCH DISCLOSURE, Nov. 1980, p. 480, 481). In order to increase the rigidity of the gripper belt, relatively strong reinforcing fibers are provided in the gripper belt, which consist for example of carbon fibers or Kevlar fibers.

The function of such a gripper device proves to be very satisfactory in practice. It has been found to be disadvantageous that with such a gripper belt not only this gripper belt, but also the guide means, in particular the guide means movable into the shed, wear relatively heavily.

The invention has for its object to design a gripper device of the type mentioned in such a way that less wear is obtained in particular on the guide means.

This object is achieved in that the reinforcing fibers are arranged at a distance from the front end of the gripper belt.

The invention is based on the knowledge that the cause of the wear of the guide means was that after a certain wear of the gripper belt, in particular in the region of its front end, which does not yet lead to the gripper device becoming unusable, the reinforcing fibers are exposed in the region of the front end become. The wear at the front end of the rapier belt, to which the rapier is attached, arises from the fact that the guide means that can be inserted into the shed are not always optimally aligned with one another and that the front end of the rapier tape comes into contact with these guide means first. The reinforcement fibers exposed by wear, particularly in the area of the front end of the gripper belt, act very aggressively on the guide means and cause wear on them. As a result, the guiding of the rapier belt within the shed is no longer optimal, and the risk of damage or breakage of one or more warp threads that come into contact with the guide elements also increases. In addition, the partially worn guide means in turn cause greater wear on the gripper belt and in particular on its front end, so that there is an interaction that increases the overall wear. The invention leads to the advantage that the guide elements are less Are subject to wear, whereby the front end of the gripper belt is also less worn in retrospect. This is achieved in that the aggressive reinforcing fibers do not yet reach the surface of the gripper belt after a certain amount of wear.

In a preferred embodiment it is provided that the reinforcing fibers are arranged in one or more layers within the gripper belt.

In an embodiment of the invention it is provided that a stiffening rib can be attached to the gripper belt in the area after its front end, which extends at least approximately to the gripper. This stiffening rib has the advantage that the gripper belt, which is inherently less stiff due to the lack of reinforcing fibers, is sufficiently reinforced by means of the stiffening rib in order to move the gripper properly through a shed.

In a further embodiment of the invention it is provided that the gripper belt is provided with at least one additional layer of reinforcing fibers in the region of the end of the stiffening rib facing away from the gripper. This additionally stiffens the area of the connection between the gripper belt and the stiffening rib.

In a further embodiment of the invention it is provided that an exchangeable sole is attached in front of the front end of the gripper belt below the gripper, the cross section of which corresponds essentially to the cross section of the gripper belt. This sole forms a wear part that can be replaced on its own without the gripper belt itself being replaced.

The rapier weaving machine shown in FIG. 1 has two rapier belts (1), a master rapier (2) being attached to one rapier belt (1) and a slave rapier (3) attached to the other rapier belt (1). A drive device (4) moves the rapier belt (1) with the master rapier (2) together with a weft thread to be inserted in the direction of arrow A to the center of the rapier weaving machine. There the slave rapier (3), which is moved with the rapier belt (1) driven by a further drive device (4), takes over the weft thread and transports it to the opposite side of the rapier weaving machine.

The drive devices (4), which are arranged in the region of opposite side frames (5), contain, for example driven gears (6) that work with the gripper belts (1). The teeth of the gearwheels (6) engage in openings in the gripper belts (1). The gripper belts (1) are held in contact with the gears by means of guide blocks (7). A sley (8), which carries a reed (9) and is mounted in the side frame (5), is driven by a drive (10). The drives (4 and 10) work synchronously.

In the area of the side frames (5), the gripper belts (1) are guided by means of stationary guides (11). In the area of a shed, the gripper belts (1) are guided by means of guides (12) which are fastened to the sley (8) in a known manner and which move into a shed due to the movement of the sley (8).

As shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, the gripper belt (1) consists of a plastic base element, into which a layer of reinforcing fibers (13), for example carbon fibers, is installed. The location of reinforcing fibers (13) is surrounded on all sides with the plastic. The plastic base element consists, for example, of a polymer with loose fibers, which consist of a non-abrasive material. In a preferred embodiment, the plastic base element consists of a laminate of several layers which are connected to one another. The reinforcing fibers (13) are inserted in the form of loose reinforcing fibers, or fiber mats or fabrics between two layers and connected to both layers. In the exemplary embodiment according to FIGS. 2 and 3, the reinforcing fibers (13) are arranged in only one layer, this layer extending almost over the entire width of the gripper belt (1). The position of the reinforcing fibers (13) extends approximately over the entire length of the gripper belt (1), but only up to a distance from the front end (14) of the gripper belt (1), in the area of which the slave gripper (3) is fastened.

At the end (14) of the gripper belt (1), a stiffening rib (15) is then attached to the gripper belt (1) on the slave gripper (3). This stiffening rib (15) is part of the slave gripper (3) or attached to the slave gripper (3). This stiffening rib (15) extends at least up to the region of the front end of the layer of reinforcing fibers (13) of the gripper belt (1) and preferably over a distance beyond this end of the layer. The stiffening rib (15) has an essentially T-shaped shape, its transverse web being fastened to the top of the gripper belt (1) and the leg projecting essentially upwards in the middle from the gripper belt (1).

In the embodiment according to FIG. 4, two layers of reinforcing fibers (13, 16) are installed in the gripper belt (1), which are similar to the embodiment according to FIGS. 2 and 3 approximately over the entire width of the gripper belt (1) and in extend substantially over the entire length of the gripper belt (1), but only up to a clear distance from the front end (14) of the gripper belt (1), in the area of which the slave gripper (3) is fastened.

In a modified embodiment, more than two layers of reinforcing fibers are installed in the gripper belt (1), each of which extends only over a certain width of the gripper belt (1).

Die Lagen von Verstärkungsfasern (17, 18) können gleich breit wie die Lage von Verstärkungsfasern (13) aber auch schmaler ausgeführt werden.5, a layer of reinforcing fibers (13) is installed in the gripper belt (1), which extends essentially over the entire width of the gripper belt (1) and which, however, in the area of the front end (14) in front of the Slave gripper (3) ends. In the area of the transition between the stiffening rib (15) and the adjoining part of the gripper belt (1), two additional layers of reinforcing fibers (17, 18) are installed, which only extend over this area. These two layers of reinforcing fibers (17, 18) lead to the gripper belt (1) being particularly stiff in the area in which the stiffening rib begins. The layers of the reinforcing fibers (17, 18) are located at a greater distance from the end (14) of the gripper belt (1) than the layer of the reinforcing fibers (13). This is particularly expedient with regard to the position of the reinforcing fibers (18), since this is closer to the underside or upper side of the gripper belt (1), which is particularly susceptible to wear, than the position of the reinforcing fibers (13). The layers of reinforcing fibers (17, 18) can be made the same width as the layer of reinforcing fibers (13) but also narrower.

In an embodiment similar to FIG. 4, layers of reinforcing fibers (17, 18) are also additionally provided, these layers likewise only extending in a limited length range.

In the embodiment according to FIG. 5 it is further provided that the gripper belt (1) is provided in the area of its upper side (19) and in the area of its lower side (20) with layers of wear-resistant but not abrasive material, which extend over the entire length and extend the width of the gripper belt (1).

In an embodiment of the invention, not shown, it is provided that the layers of reinforcing fibers (13, 16, 17, 18) extend to the side edges of the gripper belt. Such rapier belts are used in particular in a rapier weaving machine according to EP-A 0 620 303, in which the side edges of the rapier belt (s) (1) do not cooperate with the guides (12) attached to the sley (8).

The gripper belt (1) for the encoder gripper (2) is designed in accordance with the above exemplary embodiments, so that no separate description is required.

In the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 6, a gripper belt similar to one of the exemplary embodiments according to FIGS. 2 to 5 is provided. In this exemplary embodiment, a sole (21), which is located under the slave gripper (3) - or also on the master gripper (2) - is arranged in front of the front end (14) and is interchangeably fastened to the master gripper (2) or slave gripper (3) . This sole (21), which corresponds in cross section to the subsequent gripper belt, represents an exchangeable wear element.
