Definitions
- the present invention relates to a mounting circuit light emitting diodes.
- Light emitting diodes are used especially for lighting display panels, keyboards etc.
- n chains are placed in parallel each comprising p light-emitting diodes placed in series.
- the assembly is supplied with 28 volts direct current and, for control, there is also a variable DC voltage from 0 to 28 volts.
- This control voltage supplies an electronic circuit whose output serves to polarize the base of a transistor put in series in each chain. With this command, the luminance curve, as a function of the supply voltage, of a tube circuit is roughly reproduced.
- the present invention provides a circuit for mounting light emitting diodes for reproducing also the luminance curve as a function of the voltage supply to a tube circuit, in the case where no has only one variable DC voltage.
- the present invention thus relates to a circuit for mounting light-emitting diodes supplied between a variable DC voltage from 0 to V volts and ground, characterized in that it comprises, connected in series, a first resistor R 1 and two groups of light emitting diodes connected in parallel, each group comprising at least one chain comprising P light emitting diodes connected in series, P possibly being equal to 1, in that a second resistor R 2 is furthermore arranged in series in one of the two groups, downstream of the group in the current flow direction, a third resistor R 3 being arranged in series in the other group, upstream of said group and in that a diode is connected between a first point located upstream of said second resistor R 2 and downstream of the group to which it belongs and a second point located downstream of the third resistor R 3 and upstream of the group to which it belongs, said diode assu rant the placing in series of the two groups when the voltage V 2 -V 3 between said first point and said second point reaches the threshold voltage of said dio
- Figure 1 shows the assembly circuit according to the invention.
- Figure 2 is a diagram equivalent to the circuit of the Figure 1 during low voltage power supplies.
- Figure 3 is the same circuit as in Figure 1 but shown in a way more clearly showing the series of two groups of diodes electroluminescent when powering at higher high voltages, the diode being on.
- Figure 4 shows the diode luminance curve electroluminescent mounted in the circuit according to the invention as a function of the supply voltage V, compared to that of a tube circuit.
- FIG. 5 represents a preferred embodiment of the invention.
- This circuit therefore comprises two groups 1 and 2 of light-emitting diodes 3 placed in series in each of the two groups.
- the two groups connected in parallel, are arranged in series with a first resistance R 1 .
- the circuit is supplied between ground and a variable DC voltage from 0 to 28 volts.
- a second resistor R 2 is arranged in series downstream of the light-emitting diodes 3 of group 1 (considering the direction of current flow) and a third resistor R 3 is arranged in series, upstream of the light-emitting diodes 3 of group 2.
- a diode 4 is connected between point 5 located between the last light-emitting diode 3 of group 1 and the second resistor R 2 and point 6 located between the third resistor R 3 and the first light-emitting diode 3 of group 2.
- each group has a chain of four light emitting diodes 3 and that the voltage of threshold for light emitting diodes 3 and diode 4 is of 2 volts.
- diode 4 At low supply voltages, diode 4 is blocked and the circuit is equivalent to a circuit of two groups 1 and 2 connected in parallel as shown in figure 2.
- the voltage at point 6 remains practically constant at 8 volts (4 x 2 volts ) as soon as the threshold voltage of the light-emitting diodes 3 is reached.
- the intensity increases in the single chain of group 2 and the voltage drop increases at the terminals of R 3 .
- the voltage increases since the voltage drop is constant in the light-emitting diodes 3 and equal to approximately 8 volts.
- the circuit proposed is equivalent to a circuit of two mounted groups in parallel, which reduces the threshold voltage of each group of light-emitting diodes ( ⁇ 8 volts).
- Diode 4 being blocked and when the voltage power supply becomes higher and up to 28 volts, the circuit is equivalent to a circuit of two groups 1 and 2 in series ( Figure 3). Consumption is thus limited. The diode 4 is then on.
- the characteristics of the luminance curve are adjusted to get as close as possible to the luminance curve of a tube circuit.
- Curve L in Figure 4 shows schematically the luminance curve of a tube circuit as a function of the supply voltage.
- the curves S-P and S represent the curve of luminance in the case of the present invention as a function of the supply voltage: the S-P curve corresponds to the phase where diode 4 is blocked and curve S at phase where LED 4 is on.
- the choice of the value of the resistors R 1 , R 2 and R 3 makes it possible to follow more or less the curve L of a tube circuit.
- the number P can moreover be equal to 1.
- transverse links 9 ensuring a grid of all the chains of the group.
