Abstract

The braking mechanism consists of a lever (2) made from two articulated elements (20,21). The free end of the first element is connected to the harness, while its other end has a cam (20b) to press the cable (C) against the bottom of a U-shaped trough (1), the two sides of which have L-shaped notches (10b,11a) to receive the ends of a pivot pin (4) between the two lever elements. The free end of the second lever element (21) turns about a pivot (5) which can slide in a slot (10c) in an extension (10a) of the trough and is spring-loaded away from the notches. A gravity pin (13) on the trough shuts off the slots in the event of the mechanism being fitted upside-down, and a torsion spring (9) on the pivot (4) between the two lever elements keeps them in line. <IMAGE>

Description

The present invention relates to improvements made anti-fall devices connected on the one hand to a harness worn by a user and secondly to a lifeline against which the device locks automatically in the event of a fall the user. Such types of apparatus are well known and used in particularly by construction workers. When the worker moves, the fall prevention device slides freely in relation to the oriented rope generally vertically and by which it is insured against falls. Of course, the devices in question include means of disconnect from the safety rope when the user leaves the construction site.

We know, in particular from US-A-5,156,240, such devices generally comprising a gutter rigid U-shaped cross section with one of the cheeks is pivotally associated with one of the branches of a bent axis the other branch of which crosses a lever in two articulated elements, one to the other by means of a hollow axis. When the bent axis is clear notches in the extreme part of the cheeks of the chute and that it is rotated, it is possible to engage the chute of the device around a safety rope. Once this is done, it is necessary to rotate the bent axis again so as to bring the hinged lever opposite the opening of the chute and rotate the latter until its hollow axis falls in front of two holes made in the wings of the chute. Then you have to initiate a pin in said holes and in the hollow axis and provide a locking automatic of the latter in place. In the event of this fall, a cam pivoting around the hollow axis jams the device relative to the rope preventing the user from falling.

Such a device has many drawbacks. It is first expensive because it is complex and involves many rooms. In addition, it is necessary, when the user wants make sure, rotate the articulated lever and fold it between cheeks of La goulotte. It is still necessary, and this presents the most serious drawback, place it perfectly opposite the two holes in the chute wings and the hollow shaft in order to engage the safety pin. It is easy to understand that this operation is delicate especially in unfavorable atmospheric conditions.

The improvements which are the subject of the present invention aim to remedy these drawbacks and allow the realization of a anti-fall device which is economical and very functional simple.

The apparatus according to the invention is mainly remarkable in that that each of the two cheeks of the chute has a blind notch in L leading to the edge of the corresponding cheek, in that the ends of the hinge pin of the two elements of the lever protrude laterally to engage in said notches, in that the free end of the lever element which does not carry the cam is rotatably mounted around a sliding axis in a slide on an extension of one of the cheeks of the chute, in that this axis is loaded elastically in the opposite direction to that of the notches and in what a flip lock carried by one of the cheeks of the chute is resiliently held in a position in which it closes the bottom the corresponding cheek notch.

The attached drawing, given as an example, will better understand the invention, the characteristics it presents and the advantages it is likely to provide:

The fall prevention device according to the invention essentially comprises, as particularly illustrated in FIG. 1, a chute 1 having in cross section the shape of a U with rounded bottom, the cheeks 10, 11 are parallel and a composite lever 2 rotatably mounted relative to an extension 10 a of the cheek 10, as is will explain better later.

Each cheek 10, 11 is provided with an L-shaped notch referenced respectively 10 b and 11 a . The two notches in question are exactly opposite one another. Each notch has an oblique branch opening onto the free edge of each corresponding cheek and a blind branch roughly parallel to said free edges.

The extension 10 a of the cheek 10 has a slot 10 c parallel to the geometric axis of the chute 1. The lever 2 comprises a first element 20 represented in two parts 20 a , 20 b but which could be unique. In the embodiment shown, the two parts 20 a and 20 b are articulated around an axis 3. The free end of the part 20 a has a ring 20 ' a while the free end of the part 20 b carries a 20 ′ serrated surface cam b . The two parts 20 a, 20 b are provided with oblique bearing surfaces relative to each other and which allow a certain angular movement of said parts.

On observe que l'axe 4 dépasse latéralement à l'extérieur de chacune des ailes de l'élément 21.The second element 21 of the lever 2 is produced in the form of a yoke in one end of which is engaged the part 20 b of the first element 20. An axis 4 passes through the element 21 and the part 20 b so that these two elements are articulated to each other. It is observed that the axis 4 projects laterally outside of each of the wings of the element 21.

Dans le boítier est placé un ressort 6 qui charge élastiquement l'axe 5 en direction de l'extrémité du prolongement 10a de la joue 10.The other end of this element 21 is articulated around an axis 5 which crosses the slot 10 c and carries a head 50 outside the cheek 10 (fig. 3). This head is surrounded by a housing 10 d fixed to the outside of the cheek considered. In the housing is placed a spring 6 which elastically loads the axis 5 in the direction of the end of the extension 10 a of the cheek 10.

Autour de l'axe 5 est monté à rotation libre un galet 7.A roller 7 is mounted around the axis 5 with free rotation.

1, c'est-à-dire qu'il ferme la partie borgne de l'encoche 11a.A latch 12 is mounted tilting relative to the cheek 11 of the chute 1 and it is loaded by a torsion spring 8 so that in the free position it is held in the position of FIG. 1, that is to say that it closes the blind part of the notch 11 a .

On the outer face of one of the cheeks 10 or 11 is placed a finger 13 sliding freely in a clamp 14. The two ends of the finger 13 have a thickening keeping it trapped in the clamp 14.

It is observed that a torsion spring 9 is mounted around the axis 4 so as to load the part 20 b of the first element 20 of the lever 2 in a clockwise direction, for reasons which will be better explained further.

Le fonctionnement découle des explications qui précédent :The operation follows from the above explanations:

The user of the device according to the invention begins by hooking a carabiner M or other hook in the ring 20 ' a . It passes the device around the vertical safety rope C which enters between the roller 7 and the bottom of the chute 1, so that this bottom cooperates over its entire length with the rope C.

2, it causes the lever 2 to tilt freely, so that the cam 20 ' b enters between the cheeks of the chute. The operator then presses on the second element 21 in the direction of arrow F to slide the axis 5 into the slot 10 c , so that the laterally protruding ends of the axis 4 come at the end of the outlet for the two notches 10 b , 11 a . The spring 9 maintains the part 20 b loaded in a clockwise direction, that is to say that the cam 20 ′ b is held slightly in abutment against the cord C.

It is observed that the finger 13 is erased relative to the outlet of the notch 11 a because the device is oriented properly.

4).The following operation consists in subjecting element 21 of the lever 2 a rotation around its axis 5 while holding it in direction of chute 1, so that axis 4 enters the oblique branch of the two notches causing the latch to tilt 12 to the left (fig. 4).

Continuing the movement, we arrive in the position of fig. 5 in which the ends of the axis 4 come against the bottom of the notches by releasing the lock 12 which blocks said axis 4 against this background.

In this position, the cam 20 ' b is not in contact with the cord C, as illustrated in FIG. 6, so that the user can get on and off without the device according to the invention getting stuck with respect to said rope. In Fig. 6 and 7, it is observed that the part 20 a of the element 20 of the lever is free to move at a certain angle to avoid any untimely jamming of the cam relative to the rope in the normal working position of the user .

In the event of a fall, the carabiner M acts suddenly in the downward direction on part 20 a of element 20 of lever 2 which pivots about its axis 3 and acts in the same way on part 20 b of said element 20 so firmly apply the cam 20 ' b against the rope C (fig. 9). Of course, the device slides very slightly down along the rope before the final immobilization of the user who has fallen.

We observe in fig. 10 that if the user engages the device according to the invention with respect to the cord C upside down, finger 13 moves by gravity in front of the outlet of the corresponding notch of the chute 1, so that the establishment of the axis 4 in the notches is impossible. We could plan to place a shock absorber such as a block of natural or synthetic rubber between the two faces supporting parts 20a and 20b of element 20 of lever 2 in order to cushion a little bit of the shock transmitted to the harness when the user falls.
