Description

The present invention relates to a fire protection installation for suspended ceilings of the type comprising horizontal framework elements and tilting panels facilitating access to the technical elements arranged between said suspended ceiling and the upper slab.

This is actually to ensure a horizontal fire barrier, to meet the new safety requirements in terms of fire protection. The aim is in particular to protect people from heat when a fire breaks out in the plenum defined between the false ceiling and the upper slab, the latter constituting the ceiling itself.

Until now, the concept of fire barrier mainly applied to vertical barriers intended to prevent the spread of fire from one part of a building to another part, from one room to another, etc. .. particularly along corridors and / or by stairs. This is due in particular to the fact that suspended ceilings are not yet widespread and that the safety requirements were not yet fully set. Finally, those that exist do not necessarily serve to convey technical ducts, which of course constitute a significant factor in increasing the risk of fire.

False ceilings, however, prove to be particularly convenient to support all the technical elements and convey them in a point to another, there is the problem of confining a fire in the plenum in the event of a fire.

The technical means necessary to establish a barrier intended to slow down or even prevent the spread of fire seem a priori not very compatible with the technical means to be used to allow the tilting of the panels between the framework elements, tilting which requires functional games which must be taken into account. A static structure is easy to isolate, while a dynamic structure comprising a division into movable panels and framework elements requires a very specific insulation installation.

The problem has already been encountered in the prior art, but it has been applied to a type of false ceiling different from that aimed by the present invention. We know of technical documentation distributed by a LINDNER company which indeed markets false ceilings comprising tilting panels and provided with thermal insulation.

However, unlike the type of false ceiling targeted by the invention, it only includes framing elements in one direction. These are longitudinal beams between which only said panels are installed.

Consequently, each panel of the LINDNER system is contiguous with at least one other panel, while crosspieces separate the panels in the false ceilings which are the subject of the invention.

The pivot axes of the panels are also different. In the known system, the axes are perpendicular to the longitudinal beams and there is the possibility of moving the tilted panels in a direction parallel to that of said beams. The pivot axes of the type of false ceiling to which the invention applies are, on the contrary, preferably parallel to the axis of the longitudinal beams, although it is also possible to place them parallel to said sleepers.

The insulation problem to be solved is therefore very different because there is no static transverse structure on which to rely in the system of the prior art. The tilting panels are simply covered with an insulating plate whose dimensions are those of the panel. The vertical gaps between the panels therefore create a break in the insulating layer which cannot be filled by modifying in a way standard the configuration of the panels provided with their insulation, and that the presence of intumescent joints in said interstices is not enough to overcome.

The presence of the static sleepers connecting the longitudinal beams between two consecutive panels modifies the data of the problem appreciably since one benefits from a static network much more important than within the framework of the LINDNER system.

The objective of the invention is therefore to provide an efficient horizontal fire barrier at a false ceiling, the arrangement of which is in particular as described in the patent filed on November 23, 1988 under No. 8815997 by the applicant .

It is recalled that this ceiling arrangement essentially comprises:
  • on the one hand, framework elements, namely parallel support beams punctually fixed by lines to the upper slab, removable crossmembers and members for fixing to the walls, and
  • on the other hand, tilting panels mainly consisting of an assembly of a lower sheet, a thermally and phonically insulating core and an upper sheet.

These panels are tiltable to each side of the corridor and removable, by mounting on interface boxes placed at regular intervals on the support beams and cooperating with the ends of the removable crosspieces.

This arrangement allows easy handling of the false ceiling even after a fire.

The invention applies to this structure by adding a certain number of elements aimed at containing the progression of a fire, while of course retaining the functionalities already acquired with regard to the mobility of the panels.

To this end, we use in combination:
  • Plates or layers of thermally insulating material covering the upper face of each of said framework elements and in known manner the upper face of each of said panels,
  • The plate covering a framework element being formed of at least two superposed layers of said insulating material so that the lower face of the upper layer of this plate is located at a higher level than the upper face of the covering plate the panel,
  • The horizontal dimensions of said upper layer being such that it extends laterally at least over the vertical space separating said panel from said neighboring framework element and preferably beyond said space above a strip of said panel parallel to said space,
  • - And seals made of intumescent materials placed in each of said vertical spaces and / or interposed between the outer edge of the lower face of said upper layer of said plate covering a framework element and the external edge of the upper face of the covering plate a sign.

Intumescent joints provide the spaces and / or gaps necessary for the relative mobility of the panels. If a fire breaks out, the volume of the joints increases so as to block the gaps. The fire barrier is therefore completely constructed.

The existence and the positioning of the joints actually allow the two functional states of the false ceiling:
  • fire barrier inactivated when the joints have their initial volume. Mechanical clearances between ceiling elements are authorized and,
  • fire barrier activated, the swelling of the joints makes the junction between the horizontal elements of the barrier, leading to a single flat element slowing down the diffusion of heat and fire.

In order to further improve the insulation, each tilting panel is provided with a sheet of waterproof material placed on the internal face of the lower sheet of the panel.

This sheet is waterproof in order to keep the moisture of the sound and thermal insulation (for example rock wool) contained in the panel. The evaporation of water which does not fail to occur in the event of a fire is thus contained and this increases the cooling effect of the insulation.

According to a possible configuration, the intumescent joints interposed between the outer edge of the lower face of the upper layer of the plate covering a framework element and the outer edge of the upper face of the plate covering a panel are placed on said covering plate said panel.

Finally, the invention also relates to a fire protection installation for the panels of the previously mentioned false ceiling arrangement, taken individually.

The aim is to be able to fit one or more accessories into the panels, such as lighting fixtures, fire prevention devices in the rooms, etc. When these accessories have a thickness greater than that of said panels, the horizontal fire barrier no longer exists. To avoid such a drawback, an installation has therefore been developed which can be applied only to panels.

This installation is characterized in that it consists on the one hand of a stack of layers of thermally insulating material fixed on the insulating plate around each cavity formed in the panel to allow the embedding of an accessory, so extending said cavity to a height exceeding that of said accessory, and on the other hand, at least one horizontal plate fixed above said stack, of horizontal dimensions greater than those of the upper part of the cavity formed by the 'stacking of previous layers, so that an isolated raised housing is created for each accessory.

We will now explain the invention in more detail, with reference to the attached figures, for which:
  • FIG. 1 represents a top view of a possible configuration of the ceiling,
  • FIG. 2 represents a partial section AA of the suspended ceiling, provided with components of the fire barrier according to the invention, at the level of a connecting cross member,
  • FIG. 3 shows a second partial section BB of the same ceiling, with another configuration of the fire barrier at the edge of a wall, and
  • Figure 4 is still a partial section of a suspended ceiling area with a fixture location.

Figure 1 shows schematically a possible example of using a suspended ceiling, the simplest possible. It contains the various elements mentioned above, namely:
  • the tilting panels (1),
  • framework elements which include:
    • · Longitudinal support beams (2)
    • · Connecting crosspieces (3).

The purpose of this figure is to show the places chosen to make the partial cuts AA and BB. We notice the discontinuities appearing at the borders of the framework and tilting elements, which are in particular provided to allow the mechanical clearances necessary for the tilting of the panels (1).

The partial cut A-A is carried out on one of the crosspieces (3) in contact with the side walls of the panel (1) perpendicular to the pivot axis.

The upper surfaces of the panels (1) and of the cross-member (3) are coated with an insulating plate or layer (4a, 4b) made of a solid material which is in the form of panels adaptable to the dimensions of the elements to be covered.

These plates are fire resistant and retain great dimensional stability during exposure to fire. The materials chosen are, for example, compounds of calcium silicate and selected fibers which are autoclaved to obtain high stability, both chemical and dimensional, as well as low alkalinity.

According to possible variants, these solid insulation panels are made from ceramics, or even using plaster ... In any case, they must be able to be worked easily with the machining tools commonly used in the field of wood, so that it can be brought to the dimensions of the panels and / or framing elements.

This is explained by the existence of an additional layer (4c) of the same material, fixed on the plate (4a) and which must not have contact with the layers (4b), although largely exceeding both sides and d 'other of the plate (4a) so as to cover the interstices (5) existing between the tilting panels (1) and the crosspiece (3).

In section, said interstices (5) are extended perpendicularly by horizontal interstices (6) which open onto the "ground" of the plenum, forming a sort of baffle at right angles. Each of the branches of this baffle is equipped with an intumescent seal (7) pressed onto one or the other of the two facing walls parallel to the axis of the branch.

The lower sheet (8) of the tilting panel (1) is itself coated with an impermeable layer, in the form of a sheet (9) of waterproof material. This is surmounted by the flexible insulating core (10) thermally and phonically, conventionally installed in the panels (1), as well as in the crosspieces (3), in order to provide the insulation functions otherwise required for this type of false ceiling. The panels (1) finally consist of an upper sheet (11) which supports the solid insulating plates (4b) of the fire barrier.

At the edge banks, the configuration is a little different, since there are fixing points to the walls. Figure 3 shows an example of installing a horizontal fire barrier on one of the walls to which the false ceiling is attached.

D'où l'absence de contact avec la couche (4c) qui déborde de la plaque (4a) pour venir recouvrir l'interstice vertical (5) en ménageant un espace horizontal (6) entre les plaques (4b) et (4c).Overall, we find characteristics very similar to what we have just described: the layer of solid insulating plate (4a) placed on the support beam (13) positioned against the wall has a thickness greater than that of the corresponding layer (4b) of the tilting panel (1). Hence the absence of contact with the layer (4c) which overflows from the plate (4a) to cover the vertical gap (5) by providing a horizontal space (6) between the plates (4b) and (4c) .

Here too, we take advantage of the two branches of the right-angle baffle thus created to install intumescent seals (7) which therefore run on the one hand along the vertical lateral faces of the tilting panels (1) or of the framework elements. (13) and on the other hand on the lower surface of the plates (4c) facing the plates (4b) or vice versa on the upper surface of the plates (4b) facing the plates (4c).

Cette couche (14) est à présent installée sur la plaque (4c).The difference between the two configurations consists in fact of adding a flexible thermal and phonic insulating layer (14) of the same type as the core (10) and which compensates for the absence of such a layer at the level of the support beam (13). This layer (14) is now installed on the plate (4c).

Of course, according to a possible manufacturing method, the tilting panel (1) also includes a waterproof layer (9) on the internal face of the microperforated plate (8). Among the possible materials for said sheet, there may be mentioned, without being exhaustive, polyethylene, paper, aluminum and ceramic.

Regarding the tilting panels (1), they are produced for example using a lower sheet (8) of microperforated steel 0.8 mm thick, coated with a baked lacquer. The upper sheet (11) also has a thickness of 0.8 mm and is electrogalvanized.

The insulating core is made of rock wool (flexible material) 45 mm thick and with a density of 40 kg / m³. The whole of this core and of the two sheets which delimit the volume of the panel is for example riveted, forming a one-piece element of very great rigidity, eliminating any deformation during the opening and closing operations and guaranteeing the planimetry.

This is important: in the basic configurations of this type of ceiling, that is to say without the addition of a firebreak system, it is already important that there are simultaneously:
  • good accessibility to the plenum, allowing access to technical ducts and
  • acoustic insulation.

It is obvious that if each opening and / or closing operation can cause deformation of the tilting panels (1), the sound insulation initially required quickly becomes ineffective. Hence the rigor which is brought to it in the design of the panels, machined with great precision and whose sheets and core are crimped to form a monobloc element.

L'ensemble métal + laine de roche conduit par exemple à une protection codifiée MO.It should be emphasized that this initial design already gives the tilting panels (1) good fire resistance. The metal + rock wool combination leads, for example, to MO-coded protection.

The rigidity of the panels (1), without solving the problem of making a horizontal fire barrier, is however a prerequisite. Indeed, deformable panels would be very detrimental to a fire-resistant structure, since it would be impossible to ensure sealing by intumescent joints, for example, without prejudging other problems due to the lack of flatness of said barrier horizontal.

It is the combination of the various elements described above, reported on the initial false ceiling structure, which leads to this horizontal fire structure.

It adapts particularly well to all kinds of configurations. Figure 4 is an example, which shows a false ceiling area into which a light fixture is inserted. In this case, it suffices to add several layers of insulation (4b, 4c) so as to bypass the cavity (15) intended for the location of the luminaire. It is, in a way, the construction of a raised portion with only solid insulating material so as to create a perfectly insulating housing, with no continuity in fire protection, and without introducing a zone of weakness.

Of course, the various configurations described above are only examples, and should not be considered as exhaustive of the invention. This also includes the possible variants, in particular in form and in the use of the materials chosen.
