Definitions

  • the invention relates to a printable security sheet. intended for the production of banknotes and other valuable or security documents; this sheet containing at least one security element, for example a security thread.
  • Security thread is often made of polyester thread transparent covered with a layer of aluminum or printed.
  • This wire can be visible in transmitted light and invisible in reflected light, as described in the patents EP-A-279,880 and US-A-5,002,636.
  • US-A-5002636 describes a document having a safety thread covered with a pigmented layer.
  • a security document containing a safety thread that appears on the surface in windows
  • a security thread opaque which has, on at least one face, iridescent marks that appear at least partially in at least one of the windows on the at least one side of the document, according to claim 1.
  • the wire is opaque makes the wire observable as a dark line in transmitted light and thus allows to authenticate the document in light transmitted; iridescence is not observed when look at the wire in transmitted light.
  • the thread will have as background color a color similar to that of the part of the document where the wire will be introduced.
  • the yarn Because the yarn has the same color (or a color close) than that of the part of the document containing it, it merges with the document and therefore cannot be reproduced during a photocopy.
  • Iridescent marks may be present on the wire discontinuously and preferably at intervals regulars spaced about one step apart Windows. Preferably the marks go from one edge to the other of the wire in the cross direction. They can also be present in the form of at least one continuous strip along the length of the wire.
  • iridescent marks we can use either only one type of iridescent marks, or several types of iridescent marks which are differentiated by their iridescences, that is to say by the colors they produce at given angles. We will preferably choose iridescent brands so as to have a good contrast with the background color some thread.
  • polyester As support for the safety wire, you can use colorless polyester [or possibly colored in mass (white being considered a color)], polyester with mechanical and chemical properties well suited to the application of safety wires.
  • the base wire is covered on one or both sides an opaque layer. This layer has a color close to that of the part of the document where the wire will be incorporated.
  • This layer can be provided by a coating or by printing (by rotogravure for example) a plastic thread (like polyester) and in quantities so to have a wire whose final opacity is higher to that of the sheet where it will be incorporated.
  • Iridescent marks are placed on one or more two sides of the film. However, it is more advantageous to arrange the iridescent marks on both sides so that these marks are present in the windows. Indeed, when we introduce a thread in a document by an industrial process, the wire tends to twist and thus it is not always the same side of the wire that appears for a given side of the document.
  • a wire in the form of a complex consisting of at least two bonded wires and each comprising iridescent marks.
  • the double-sided presence is also interesting if you want to make documents with windows on both sides.
  • the iridescent marks are registered by gravure or serigraphy.
  • Iridescent marks are made with an iridescent mineral pigment like a mica coated with titanium dioxide.
  • the pigments are mixed with a transparent binder which has good adhesion with the material of the film.
  • the film is then cut into strips which have a width preferably between 0.8 and 2 mm.
  • larger wires may be suitable for the invention.
  • the invention also aims to provide a security document containing a visually detectable security thread and on sorting machine.
  • the part electrically conductive must be continuous all along the wire.
  • the wire is made conductive by adding an electrically conductive layer on at least one of the faces of the base wire.
  • a conductive layer a layer can be used.
  • metallic produced by vacuum deposition of a metal electroconductive (aluminum, chrome, nickel for example) or produced by coating or printing an ink electrically conductive (metallic ink or black ink carbon for example).
  • the conductive layer (s) are masked in covering both sides of the wire with at least one layer, having a similar or identical color to that of the document where the security thread will be incorporated. Iridescent marks are then made on one or both sides of the wire according to the invention.
  • the invention is not limited to detection by measurement electrical conductivity or capacity or magnetism: it is only necessary that the layer colored and iridescent marks do not disturb the detection.
  • a complex wire as described above, consisting of at least two wires and such that the detectable element is inside of the complex. This notably prevents the layers or the bands of this element crack (the discontinuity of an electrically conductive layer is troublesome if you want to measure its conductivity).
  • This complex can be obtained by laminating with example two films "iridescent marks / colored layer / polyester yarn / layer of a detectable element on machine // adhesive // polyester film / colored layer / iridescent marks.
  • Colored layers and iridescent marks can be made after gluing the two films; each film may include a detectable layer; the adhesive may contain detectable material.
  • the complex can also be obtained by incorporating a detectable sheet between two films; layers colored and iridescent marks are made preferably after incorporation of the detectable sheet.
  • the detectable sheet can be incorporated between the two films in particular by collage.
  • a detectable sheet can be used aluminum foil for example.
  • the printable sheet according to the invention is based on cellulose fibers; it may possibly include synthetic fibers. It may include other well-known elements of authentication or tampering skilled in the art (watermarks, fluorescent fibers, chemical agents sensitive to solvents, acids, bases, redox ).
  • Figure 1a shows a yarn according to the invention having strips transverse iridescent.
  • FIG. 1b shows the wire of Figure 1 in cross section.
  • FIGS 2 to 5 show other modes of production of the wire according to the invention.
  • the yarn of FIGS. 1 a and 1 b consists of a strip of polyester P coated on one side with an opaque colored layer C and on one side with the iridescent marks I. These iridescent marks are present on the wire in a discontinuous manner and at regular intervals spaced by a pitch e equal to approximately that of the windows of the sheet into which the wire is intended to be introduced. These marks go from one edge to the other of the wire in the cross direction. In Figure 1 these marks are cross bars, in Figure 2 these marks are characters.
  • the marks are present under the form of one or two continuous strips along the length some thread.
  • discontinuous iridescent marks are deposited, at regular intervals, by gravure printing (as in FIG. 1).
  • the film is cut into strips 1 mm wide.
  • the wire is introduced into a sheet of white paper (opacity 85 photovolts) according to the method described in patent EP 59056 and such that the iridescent marks appear in the windows on the surface of the paper.
  • Iridescent marks have good resistance to traffic.
  • One side of a polyester film of 12 is metallized ⁇ m thick by deposition (under vacuum) of a continuous layer aluminum.
  • Example 1 On each side of the wire we deposit the white layer opaque described in Example 1. On this white layer. we print iridescent marks in yellow-green (cf. example 1) in continuous strips.
  • iridescent marks with pigments with a pink iridescence, discontinuously at regular intervals and as they form a angle of about 45 ° with the marks in yellow-green.
  • the film is cut into 1 mm wide wires, and such that the iridescent marks in continuous bands are centered on the middle of the wire and of a smaller width to that of the wire.
  • Each face of the complex obtained is covered with the white layer made according to Example 1.
  • One or both sides are printed by gravure printing with the iridescent pigments used in Example 1.
  • the complex obtained is cut into wires 1.2 mm wide.
  • the complex obtained is incorporated into white paper as in Example 1.
  • Thread can also be detected on a sorting machine by measuring the conductivity or the electrical capacity of the document obtained according to the invention.
