Definitions

  • the invention relates to a combination of an authenticated document and an authentication composition, as well as the authentication method.
  • Application GB-1 507 454, filed by WIGGINS-TEAPE, describes a method for authenticating a document when it is canceled.
  • This request describes the following authentication method:
  • the document is printed on a security paper consisting of a base paper, coated with a composition containing a leuco-dye, an inert pigment and a binder, and the authentication is carried out by obliteration.
  • paper using an authentication composition comprising mixing a dark pigmented ink and a solution of a compound which reacts with the leuco dye to form a color.
  • the electron donor leuco dye is encapsulated with a solvent in microcapsules which rupture under the pressure exerted during the obliteration with an ink pad and reacts with the acid compound, electron acceptor, contained in the authentication composition. . It is not the inscription which is made during the cancellation which has a particular color allowing to authenticate the document, but it is a halo which surrounds this composition. Indeed, the leucocolourant which is in liquid form is partially absorbed by the ink pad during the obliteration, and therefore it contaminates the ink which, if it does not contain dark pigments, takes on the authentication color and is no longer valid for authenticating the document.
  • the applicant for this patent was forced to use a dark pigmented ink to mask the authentication coloration prematurely developed in the ink pad and had to add an inert filler in the layer comprising the leuco-dye microcapsules to diffuse the acid reagent. around the cancellation which then develops a halo of the authentication color.
  • the dark ink also highlights the inscription inside the halo.
  • EP-A-90130 describes a method of authenticating a paper security which is characterized by the fact that one of the two substances of a colored reaction system is deposited on the paper sheet. consisting of an electron donor color trainer and an electron acceptor color developer, one of the substances therefore being on the surface of the title and the other being in a dispenser which makes it possible to write or to print on this surface.
  • Application FR-A-2315132 describes a method of authenticating valuable securities coated with a hot-applied carbon ink which is characterized by the fact that this coating contains a reagent which reacts with another compound brought to the surface of the title during authentication and producing a characteristic coloring.
  • this coating contains a reagent which reacts with another compound brought to the surface of the title during authentication and producing a characteristic coloring.
  • a color former in the coating and use as co-reactant a solution of an appropriate color developer
  • This process therefore also has the disadvantage that the reagent is on the surface of the voucher to be authenticated.
  • the process is quite complicated, since it requires the use of a blotter or a cotton ball to aspirate the reaction liquid. .
  • the invention therefore aims to provide a method of authenticating a document when it is obliterated, this method consisting in using the principle of a colored reaction between a reagent contained in the document and a co-reactant contained in the ink. authentication, while overcoming or avoiding the drawbacks of the prior art.
  • An object of the invention is therefore to provide a method of authenticating a document during its cancellation, which is at the same time simple, rapid, economical.
  • Another object of the invention is to provide an authentication method which gives a clear and legible inscription on the document, the inscription appearing in color during the cancellation.
  • a third object of the invention is to provide an authenticated document and its authentication composition without using the technique of microcapsules.
  • Another object of the invention is to provide such a system according to which the document can be authenticated both on the front and on the back. This makes it easy to distinguish it from the leaves commercially available, which have an active color only on one side and react only on one side.
  • Another object of the invention is to provide such a system with a document which can be easily watermarked, the watermark being another important security element.
  • the coated sheets generally do not have a watermark because it would be hidden by the layer or damaged during the deposition of the layer.
  • the objects of the invention are achieved by using as a reagent in the document a compound which is in solid form in the document, thus this compound cannot be absorbed by an ink pad or other marking device and contaminate the composition of authentication contained in this device.
  • the invention therefore provides a combination of a document to be authenticated during its obliteration, comprising a reagent participating in the authentication reaction chosen from the acceptors of color developer electron (s) and an authentication composition containing a co-reactant reacting with the reagent of the document to produce a distinctive colored inscription of cancellation on the document to be authenticated, the authentication composition being a fatty ink containing a co-reactant chosen from the donor of color-forming electron (s), characterized by the fact that the document contains in mass and in solid form said reagent. which is chosen from the group formed by acid mineral fillers, phenolic resins, zinc compounds and their mixtures.
  • a bentonite (called montmorillonite), and even more preferably a bentonite which has a specific surface (measured by the BET method, according to standard DIN 66 131, the gas being nitrogen ) greater than 200 m 2 / g.
  • the coloformers associated with these color developers are not the subject of a particular choice. They are dissolved in a mixture of non-volatile organic solvents. They then form colorless or almost colorless inks such as those described for example in patent application DE-A-2 644 117. These inks are clean in the sense that they do not pollute the marking device with which they are used to authenticate the document. In addition, they do not dry quickly in the marking device which can for example be a felt-tip pen or an ink pad.
  • the document to be authenticated can have any fibrous structure, purely cellulosic or partly synthetic, to which additives such as mineral fillers, binders, various resistance agents, tinting dyes, bonding products, etc. can be added.
  • the document can also include other authentication means, for example it can include one or more watermarks.
  • This document can also consist of a synthetic sheet, for example biaxially stretched polyethylene and coated with a layer facilitating its printing. It may for example be a document consisting of POLYART R manufactured by the company ARJOBEX R.
  • the solid compound is introduced into the coating composition.
  • the compound participating in the authentication of the document can therefore be incorporated en masse during the manufacture of the support or be put on the surface, advantageously using a sizing press or an impregnator, but any other coating means can suit.
  • An essential characteristic of the invention is that the compound is in solid form in the finished document (generally after drying of the support), but it can be introduced in liquid form, in solution or in suspension or emulsion or in pasty form during the making of the document.
  • an additive can be introduced to precipitate it if necessary.
  • This compound can be introduced in the whole document or in a part of it.
  • the inscription or authentication mark can be any inscription, for example a date, the name of a company, a design, etc.
  • the representation of the registration may constitute additional authentication. It can be apostilled for example using a stamp, a parking meter, a numberer, a punch, rubber, metal or any other material. Any stamping or composting device capable of receiving a liquid composition, more or less viscous, may be suitable for transferring the authentication composition.
  • the invention therefore provides a means of authenticating a document during its cancellation which is at the same time simple, economical, rapid and which does not pollute by the device comprising the ink.
  • the inhibitory composition blocks the active site of the compound present in the document and / or the active site of the compound present in the authentication composition.
  • They can also prevent the colored reaction by making a physical barrier so that the reagent and the coreactive cannot be in contact to react. It can be composed so as to act as a barrier and also to block the active sites by mixing various suitable compounds.
  • This inhibiting composition is deposited in certain places on the face of the document which comprises the solid compound when this compound is in a layer, on one or both sides of the document when the solid compound has been introduced en masse during the manufacture of the document or layered on both sides, the front and back of the document are both responsive.
  • the inhibitory composition can be deposited in certain places, in a random manner, or on the contrary in perfectly identified places. When it is deposited on both sides, it can be symmetrically or asymmetrically.
  • the inhibitory composition placed on the front may be of a different nature from that placed on the back. The number of possibilities is vast.
  • the composition can be deposited in the form of strips, drawings, numbers, letters, etc.
  • the composition is preferably in the form of an ink and is deposited by a suitable printing technique. According to the invention, it is preferred to deposit it by offset and more particularly by wet offset. This inhibiting composition is preferably colorless.
  • the authentication composition may be colorless. In this case, no mark appears on the desensitized areas of the document when it is canceled with the authentication composition.
  • the authentication composition can be colored using a dye (or a colored pigment), the final color of the ink being different from that given by the authentication reaction.
  • a dye or a colored pigment
  • the final color of the ink being different from that given by the authentication reaction.
  • an association according to the invention consisting of a document comprising at least in mass an electron acceptor and of an associated authentication composition containing at least one electron donor, it is possible to use as inhibiting composition , a composition which comprises at least one nucleophilic compound such as quaternary ammonium salts, compounds having at least one amine function, compounds comprising at least one alcohol function, alkoxylated compounds.
  • a nucleophilic compound such as quaternary ammonium salts, compounds having at least one amine function, compounds comprising at least one alcohol function, alkoxylated compounds.
  • a desensitizing ink based on alkoxylated compounds and specially adapted for wet offset printing is described in patent GB 2 013 228 from the company SICPA.
  • These compounds are for example an ethoxylated octylphenol, an ethoxylated nonylphenol, a block copolymer of propylene oxide and ethylene oxide, a polypropylene glycol.
  • the inhibitory composition acts as a physical barrier between the reagents giving rise to the authentication reaction, it is possible, for example, to use a composition based on polyvinyl alcohol or an unpigmented ink.
  • the latter type of inhibitory composition may be suitable for any type of color reaction.
  • the invention provides the combination of a document to be authenticated and an authentication composition producing a distinctive inscription on the document to be authenticated, the document containing at least one compound participating in the authentication, this compound being in solid form. in the document and reacting, when marking with the authentication composition, to form an inscription, said document being characterized in that it comprises at least one desensitized zone.
  • the document may include a zone desensitized by an inhibiting composition containing a nucleophilic compound.
  • the nucleophilic compound is chosen from the group formed by quaternary ammonium salts, compounds comprising at least one alcohol function, by alkoxylated compounds or their mixtures.
  • the nucleophilic compound can be a glycol.
  • the document comprises at least one zone desensitized by an inhibiting composition which forms a physical barrier between the reagent of the document and the coreagent of the authentication composition.
  • the inhibitory composition can mainly comprise polyvinyl alcohol.
  • the invention further relates to a method of authenticating a document such as impregnating the felt with a marker device using an authentication composition consisting of a colorless fatty ink and a co-reactant. colorless and that an inscription is reported on the document using said device, this inscription becoming colored due to the reaction between the compound participating in the authentication and the coreactive, with the exception of the desensitized zone or zones .
  • the method of authenticating a document can be such that the felt is impregnated with a marking device using an authentication composition consisting of a colored fatty ink and a co-reactant and the an inscription using said device is transferred to the document using said device, this inscription taking on a color due to the reaction between the solid compound participating in the authentication and the co-reactant, color nuanced by the original color of the ink, and at or at the desensitized places the inscription having the original color of the ink, this original color being different from that of the colored reaction.
  • the invention therefore makes it possible to quickly and cleanly authenticate a document when it is canceled.
  • Example 2 is used again, but the authentication ink of example 2b) is colored with a blue dye.
  • part of the ARJOMARI R inscription appears in red-purple on the non-desensitized areas and another part appears in blue on the desensitized areas. On the face with no desensitized area, the inscription appears in full in red-violet.
