Abstract

1507454 Security paper; preventing fraud WIGGINS TEAPE Ltd 19 June 1975 [10 May 1974 24 July 1974] 20826/74 and 32743/74 Headings B6A and B6C Security paper for cheques, passports &c. comprises a paper base coated with a composition containing a leuoodye colour former, a clay and/or CaCO 3 filler and a starch, casein or latex binder. When the paper is stamped with a stamp impregnated with a mixture of an acidic material reactant and a dark ink, the colour formed by contact between the reactant and colour former produces an authenticating coloured halo around the stamped dark ink data. The effect of the filler is said to be to retain the ink in its place of application whilst the reactant spreads to produce the halo. Coatings of different colour formers may be applied to different areas of the paper to give multicoloured haloes. Numerous examples of suitable colour formers and reactants are specified. The paper may additionally bear chemicals which give colours when contacted with fountain pen ink or ballpoint pen ink eradicators.
