Definitions
- the invention relates to a protective cover for an awning, in particular an articulated arm awning, consisting of a laterally closed box which receives a winding shaft and has an extending opening which extends over the entire length of the box and which, when the awning is retracted, can be closed by a cover device which can be pivoted on the box and which can be closed when extended the awning can be operated from the downpipe in the opening direction.
- Awnings with a protective cover are commonly referred to as "cassette awnings".
- the box is closed in the retracted state by the lid-shaped drop tube.
- this results in sealing problems, and there is a more or less wide gap in the extended state between the awning fabric and the upper opening edge of the box, through which dirt can penetrate into the box and be deposited there on the winding shaft and the articulated arm suspension.
- the object of the invention is therefore to develop a protective cover of the type mentioned in such a way that, on the one hand, the lid device can be made lighter and less voluminous and, on the other hand, a tight closure of the box is ensured even after prolonged use when the awning is retracted.
- the lid device consists of an upper flap and a lower flap adjoining it in the closed position, which are pivotably mounted on the box, the downpipe actuating the upper flap against a closing force in the opening direction when extending and at the end of the Retraction movement pulls the lower flap into the closed position against a force acting in the opening direction by means of closing levers which are connected to it and remain in the path of movement of the downpipe.
- 10 denotes the winding shaft of an articulated arm awning, from which an awning fabric 12 can be pulled out obliquely downward to the right by means of a downpipe 14 designed as an extruded section.
- the downpipe 14 is guided in a known manner on the two articulated arms of the awning, each consisting of two legs 16, 18, which are below the winding shaft 10 are articulated on an articulated arm support 20.
- the aforementioned parts of the awning are accommodated in the retracted state by a box 22 which is suspended on the back with claws 24 in wall-fixed supports 26 and secured in a suitable manner.
- a relatively short bottom wall 30 is formed on the closed rear wall 28 of the box at the lower end.
- the upper end of the rear wall 28 contains a receptacle 32 for pivoting in an upper wall 34, which initially extends parallel to the bottom wall 30 and is bent slightly downward above the winding shaft 10.
- Support brackets 35 distributed over the length of the box which are inserted into guides on the inner sides of the rear wall 28 and the upper wall 34, hold the upper wall 34 in position with respect to the rear wall 28 and at the same time act as a stiffening.
- the ends of the box 22 are closed by screwed end walls 36.
- an exit opening 40 is formed which is laterally delimited by the end walls 36 and which can be closed by a cover device.
- the lid device in turn consists of an upper flap 42, which is hinged at 44 to the free longitudinal edge of the upper wall 34, and a lower flap 46, which is hinged at 48 to the free longitudinal edge of the bottom wall 30.
- the contour of the lid device initially runs obliquely forwards from the top wall 34 and then vertically downwards and then connects to the bottom wall 30 in an arc.
- All three longitudinal walls 28, 30, 34 of the box 22 and the two flaps 42, 46 are expediently designed as cut extruded profile elements and, like the end walls 36, are preferably made of aluminum, which on the one hand is the required one Stiffness of these parts is guaranteed even with long box lengths and is also easy to paint.
- the deflections of the flaps 42, 46 on the upper wall 34 and the lower wall 30, as shown in the example of the upper articulation in FIG. 3, are made with the aid of a circular profile bead 50 flattened at opposite points on one part, such as the upper wall 34, which can be pivoted within an annular profile 54 provided with an insertion gap 52 on the other part, such as the upper flap 42.
- the position of the flats on the profile bead 50 is selected so that it can only be inserted into the insertion gap 52 in the extreme pivoted position of the flap 42, which is not achieved in normal operation.
- Each end wall 36 is essentially matched to the contour of the cover device and has a bowl-shaped design.
- the edge of the shell is replaced by a removable inspection cover 56, which can be screwed onto the edge of the shell at 58 and 60.
- a removable inspection cover 56 At the ends of the flaps 42, 46 internally attached panels 62 and 64 on the plastic (FIG. 2), which at the same time stiffen the flaps, are provided with sealing lips 66 (FIG. 5) which, when the flaps are closed, the inspection cover 56 and the its lower end adjoining part of the shell wall in depressed edge zones and thereby sealing the flaps 42, 46 towards the end walls 36.
- the inspection cover 56 is folded inwards at 68 and carries at its upper end a stop pin 70 projecting into the pivoting area of the upper flap 42, which prevents the upper flap from being pivoted into the above-mentioned extreme position without first loosening the inspection cover 56.
- the lower flap 46 overlaps the upper flap 42 with its free longitudinal edge, whose slightly inward and then outward bent edge profile contains a groove open to the inside of the box with a brush strip 72 accommodated therein.
- a drip ledge 74 projecting beyond the lower flap 46.
- the upper flap 42 assumes its closed position in the exemplary case solely under the action of gravity and is first gripped and raised by the drop tube 14 when the awning is extended and then held up by the awning fabric 12 against the action of gravity.
- the upper flap 42 is supported with the brush strip 72 against the upper side of the awning fabric 12 and, when the awning is retracted, ensures the awning fabric is cleaned by wiping off dust and precipitation residues, and possibly also leaves and other deposits.
- a special locking mechanism is provided for the lower flap 46, on which the force of gravity acts in the opening direction, which consists of at least two locking levers 76 arranged outside the range of movement of the articulated arms 16, 18 with associated couplers 78, which lock levers 76 with the lower flap 46 connect articulated.
- the locking levers 76 are mounted on the lower end of the box rear wall 28 at 80 and have an upwardly curved shape at the end.
- Each locking lever 76 is also assigned a cheek 82 fastened to the rear wall of the box and extending directly next to the locking lever 76 towards the lower flap 46, which on the one hand has an adjustable stop 84 for limiting the opening movement of the locking lever 76 and on the other hand another adjustable stop 86 for the lower flap 46 carries.
- the couplings 78 are designed to be resilient and each consist of a tension spring 88, the hook-shaped bent ends of which are suspended in perforated strips 90 which are articulated on the locking levers 76 and the lower flap 46.
- the locking levers 76 intercepted by the stops 84 are gripped by the downpipe 14 at the bent outer ends and pivoted upward, taking the lower flap 46 with them via the coupling 78 until the latter is intercepted by the stops 86.
- the upper flap 42 had already reached its closed position shown in solid lines in FIG. 2, so that the lower flap 46 can overlap the upper flap 42 when it is closed.
- the closing levers 76 are pivoted further upward and thereby tension the resilient coupling 78, so that the lower flap 46 is held under tension against the stops 86.
- a bearing shell 92 extending over the entire length of the box 22, which is hooked into a groove on the box rear wall 28 with a hook profile 94 and is secured therein by clip-in U-shaped locking elements 96.
- the bearing shell 92 engages under the winding shaft 10 with the awning cloth 12 wound thereon and thereby separates the winding space from the lower part of the box 22, thereby protecting the awning cloth from damage and dirt.
- the free longitudinal edge 98 of the bearing shell is bent outwards and forms a rounded drain edge for the awning fabric 12.
- the opening angle of the lower flap 46 can be adapted to adapt the extension opening 40 to different inclinations of the awning.
- an additional return spring can load the upper flap 42 in the closing direction.
- a spring could also load the lower flap 46 in the opening direction and move it over e.g. a chain or belt drive or a lever mechanism can be coupled to the upper flap 42 such that the latter is also opened when the lower flap 46 is opened.
- the upper flap 42 is only actuated indirectly through the downpipe 14.
- at least the closing levers of the lower flap 46 could be moved by a part moving simultaneously in the initial phase of the extension and the final phase of the insertion, which e.g. is brought into coupling engagement with the winding shaft through the downpipe, pivoted, that is to say can only be actuated indirectly through the downpipe.
- the protective cover functions in the same way if the downpipe is not guided by articulated arms, but in guide rails arranged on both sides with tension members mounted therein.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a protective cover for an awning, in particular an articulated arm awning, consisting of a laterally closed box which receives a winding shaft and has an extending opening which extends over the entire length of the box and which, when the awning is retracted, can be closed by a cover device which can be pivoted on the box and which can be closed when extended the awning can be operated from the downpipe in the opening direction.
Awnings with a protective cover are commonly referred to as "cassette awnings". In earlier versions of such awnings, the box is closed in the retracted state by the lid-shaped drop tube. However, this results in sealing problems, and there is a more or less wide gap in the extended state between the awning fabric and the upper opening edge of the box, through which dirt can penetrate into the box and be deposited there on the winding shaft and the articulated arm suspension.
Außerdem ist im Fall einer Erlahmung oder gar eines Bruchs der Schließfedern das einwandfreie Verschließen des Kastens nicht gewährleistet.DE-GM 88 11 102 has therefore already been proposed to close the opening when the awning is retracted by a hinged lid hinged to the upper opening edge with a curved or bent profile, which is pivoted by spring force against the other opening edge and when the awning is extended from Down pipe is raised against the spring force. Since the opening to be closed by the hinged lid for the adjustment of different awning inclinations requires a considerable height extension, the hinged lid which extends to below the winding shaft and the articulated arm suspension, regardless of which material it is made of, has one in the closed state considerable mass, and accordingly the closing springs must be dimensioned, which leads to considerable friction of the opened cover on the awning fabric. In addition, in the event of a sluggishness or even a break in the closing springs, the correct closing of the box is not guaranteed.
The object of the invention is therefore to develop a protective cover of the type mentioned in such a way that, on the one hand, the lid device can be made lighter and less voluminous and, on the other hand, a tight closure of the box is ensured even after prolonged use when the awning is retracted.
According to the invention this object is achieved in that the lid device consists of an upper flap and a lower flap adjoining it in the closed position, which are pivotably mounted on the box, the downpipe actuating the upper flap against a closing force in the opening direction when extending and at the end of the Retraction movement pulls the lower flap into the closed position against a force acting in the opening direction by means of closing levers which are connected to it and remain in the path of movement of the downpipe.
Advantageous embodiments of the invention result from the subclaims.
A preferred embodiment of the invention is explained below with reference to the drawing.

In the drawing, 10 denotes the winding shaft of an articulated arm awning, from which an
The aforementioned parts of the awning are accommodated in the retracted state by a
All three
The deflections of the
Each
In the closed position of the flaps, the
The
In contrast, a special locking mechanism is provided for the
The
When the awning is retracted, the locking levers 76 intercepted by the
At the end of the upward pivoting of the
Due to the adjustability of the
Deviating from the illustrated embodiment, an additional return spring can load the
With the exception of narrow slots in the
