  • the bag 1 consists of a heat-sealable plastic, and in particular of polyethylene.
  • This bag has in each of its two walls 2 a zone 3, close to its opening 4, in which a cutout 5 is formed forming a handle.
  • This handle cutout can be, among other things, of the semi-carried type or completely cut out.
  • this is reinforced, on the one hand, by a fold 6 folded over the wall 2 to form one of the edges 7 of the opening 4 of the bag 1, the edge free 8 of the fold being disposed on the other side of the cutout 5 that the edge 7 of the opening of the bag, and, on the other hand, by a reinforcement 9 produced for example from a portion of flat material, advantageously cut in the shape of a rectangle.
  • This reinforcement 9 is associated with the bag, in a manner which will be described later, in order to be disposed between the fold 6 folded over the wall 2 and the latter.
  • the dimensions of this reinforcement are greater than the corresponding dimensions of the contour 10 of the cutout 5 forming the handle and the position of the reinforcement is determined so that the cutout 5 is entirely located there.
  • the invention provides that the fold 6 folded over the wall is fixed, in 10 'to the latter at least along its free edge 8, facing the cutout 5, over a distance at least equal to the dimension of this cut taken parallel to the bottom 14 of the bag.
  • the reinforcement 9, associated with the bag and located between the fold folded over the wall 2 and the latter will be fixed, as the case may be, to the fold 6 ( Figures 2, 4 and 7) or to the wall 2 ( Figures 3, 5 and 8 ). It can also (FIG. 6) have a larger dimension than in the preceding figures and be fixed to the fold 6 and to the wall 2 and then folded up during the formation of the fold 6, this in order to obtain an even greater reinforcement.
  • the reinforcement 9 is constituted by a heat-sealable material compatible with the material constituting the walls 2 and the folds 6, it can advantageously be welded to the wall and / or to the fold. Because, on the one hand, this weld is applied to a large surface of the reinforcement 9 and that, on the other hand, the reinforcement and the wall 2 or the fold 6 do not have the same thickness and possibly do not consist by the same material, the wall gathered at the place of this weld. To hide the phenomenon, we choose the arrangement of Figure 3 for which the reinforcement 9, being attached to the wall 2 of the bag, the weld mark is hidden inside the bag.
  • the fixing of the fold 6 to the wall 2 is usually carried out by a weld 13, the latter consisting either of weld points or advantageously in a weld line. This does not cause significant deformation of the wall because the weld 13 combines two materials (wall and fold) identical from the point of view of their characteristics and their thicknesses.
  • This weld 13 will preferably be arranged parallel to the free edge 8 of the fold, the latter normally being cut straight along a parallel to the bottom 14 of the bag.
  • the reinforcement 9 consists partly of a material such as cardboard and partly of a heat-sealable material or entirely of a heat-sealable material compatible with the heat-sealable material of the fold 6 or of the wall 2.
  • the reinforcement having a sufficient dimension B and being suitably arranged, can be joined, in its heat-sealable part, to the wall 2 and to the fold 6 by the weld 13 fixing the fold to the wall 2 (FIGS. 7 and 8) . This is added to the aforementioned fixing of the reinforcement to the wall or to the fold to ensure greater solidity of the reinforcement zone.
  • the reinforcement 9 (FIGS. 2 to 5) will have a dimension B, taken perpendicular to the edge 7 of the opening of the bag, less than the distance taken between said edge 7 and the weld 13.
  • the reinforcement 9 may be fixed to the wall 2 or to the fold 6 of the reinforcement zone 3 so as to be located away from the weld 13.
  • the weld 13 extends from one edge 17 to the other of the bag, it is easier to produce since it combines from one end to the other the same two materials (fold 6 and wall 2) whose thicknesses are generally constant.
  • bags 1 there are inter alia bags called bags with lateral welds ( Figures 12, 14 and 16). These latter bags are produced from a sheet of plastic material folded in half, the fold 13 'thus obtained forms the bottom 14 of the bag (FIG. 13).
  • the two walls 2 constituted by a portion of the plastic sheet are fixed to each other, along each of their edges 17 contiguous to the bottom 14 formed by the fold 13 ', by a weld 18 well known from the skilled person.
  • the welds 16 transverse or perpendicular to the edge 7 of the opening 4 are advantageously produced by the lateral welds 18 of the bag.
  • the welds 16 may however complement these lateral welds 18, and be located between the latter and the handle cutout 5.
  • the bottom 14 of the bag 1 can be formed by a fold 13 'as already mentioned above, it can however be formed by several folds 19 so as to present a bellows 20 (FIG. 15) which, when unfolded, allows to put the bag upright to facilitate the introduction of the objects to put in it.
  • the cutout 5 serving as a handle for the bags 1 is placed at equal distance from the edges 17 contiguous to the bottom 14 of the bag, the reinforcement also being practically at equal distance from these edges 17.
  • each wall 2 is deliberately offset so as to be closer to one of the edges 17 (FIG. 16). This makes it possible to transport objects protruding from the bag along the edge 17 opposite the first cited edge.
  • the bag according to FIG. 1 can be a bag, the bottom of which is formed by a weld connecting the two walls 2, the lateral edges 17 being constituted by the folds joining the two walls 2 and obtained for example by extrusion and blowing of the plastic material.
  • the bags shown in Figures 9 to 11 are models that can also be applied to bottom weld bags. The side edges of these bottom welded bags have bellows in an advantageous embodiment of the bag according to the invention.
  • the invention provides ( Figures 17 and 18) a method of manufacturing the bag 1 described above. This process applies either in the case of a bag already formed or for a bag in the process of being formed, regardless of whether the bag has a bottom weld or lateral welds.
  • the method consists, in order to reinforce the zone 3 of each wall 2 where a cutout 5 serving as a handle is practiced, to present at 55 a pair of reinforcements 9, which have already been defined above, near the edges free 21 ( Figure 19) of the walls of the bag arranged flat, the method of manufacturing said reinforcements 9 being known per se.
  • a reinforcement 9 of the pair is simultaneously fixed to each corresponding wall 2 of the bag so as to be associated with this wall 2 to occupy the position provided between the folded fold 6 below and the wall 2.
  • This fixing can be obtained by gluing of the reinforcement 9 to the wall 2 or, if the reinforcement 9 consists of a heat-sealable plastic material compatible with the material of the bag, it can be welded to this wall 2 over a large part of its surface. Then the above fold 6 is formed simultaneously at 57 along the free edge 21 of each wall 2 and the two folds 6 are folded simultaneously at 58 'on their corresponding wall 2. These two folds 6 can be folded down either on the external face 11 of their corresponding wall 2 or on the internal face 12 of the latter. One could also if necessary fold down one of the two folds on the external face 11 and the other on the internal face 12 of their corresponding wall 2.
  • each reinforcement 9 is located, on at least a large part of its surface, between the wall 2 and the corresponding fold 6.
  • Each of the folded folds 6 is fixed simultaneously (at 59) to the corresponding wall 2 over a distance at least equal to the size of the cutouts 5, forming the handles, taken parallel to the bottom of the bag, this fixing being done along the free edge 8 of the fold 6, opposite said cut 5, between the latter and the free edge 8 of the folded fold.
  • This fixing will advantageously consist of a weld 13. According to the dimensions and the relative positions of the folds and the reinforcements, the fold 6 is thus welded to the corresponding wall 2 to obtain a bag according to one of FIGS.
  • the reinforcement 9 is welded to the fold 6 and to the wall 2 in the zone of said reinforcement (FIGS. 7 and 8) and optionally outside this zone, the folded fold 6 is welded to the corresponding wall 2.
  • the cutouts 5 serving as handles are practiced in the reinforcement zone 3 of each of the two walls 2 thus formed and comprising the wall 2, the reinforcement 9 and the folded fold 6 on the wall 2.
  • the method more especially comprises the following operations integrated in the course of the formation of said bag 1.
  • a plastic tape 51 consisting of two thicknesses 52 (Figure 19) superimposed which are joined by a fold 53 forming one of the longitudinal edges of the ribbon, this fold 53 being intended to constitute the funds 14 of the bags.
  • This ribbon 51 can be obtained in different ways. We can take a single thickness material that we fold in half. One can also use a ribbon made up of two thicknesses 52, linked together by a fold along each of the edges of these two thicknesses.
  • Such a tape is obtained by extrusion, blowing and winding after flattening the hose thus formed for plastics such as polyethylene.
  • one of the two folds formed during the flattening of the hose is cut to serve as an opening to the bag while the second fold 53 is kept to constitute the bottoms 14 of the bags.
  • Each step of the aforementioned step-by-step movement corresponds to the dimension L of a bag to be produced, this dimension being taken parallel to the above fold 53 forming the bottom 14 of the bag.
  • This step-by-step movement makes it possible to carry out operations during a cyclic stopping time of the ribbon 51.
  • the two thicknesses forming the ribbon are separated at 54 from one another.
  • This reinforcement 9 can be fixed either using of an adhesive either by means of a weld, made over a large part of its surface. Bonding is preferably done by coating the fixing face of the reinforcement 9, using a product or a mixture of products which becomes adhesive after a drying time, and possibly reheating to activate this drying.
  • the fixing being carried out, the strip of material 51 is given at 56 a continuous movement along its longitudinal axis and in the same direction as the above-mentioned stepwise movement.
  • a fold 6 is formed at 57 along each free edge 52 ′ of the thicknesses 52 of said strip 51, the dimension C of this fold, taken perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the ribbon, being greater than the distance which separates the most distant edge, 58 from a reinforcement of the free edge 52 'of the corresponding thickness 52. Then, during this continuous movement of the ribbon 51, the folds 6 formed on the faces of the above-mentioned thicknesses which are turned towards each other and which will constitute the internal faces 12 of the walls of the bag are folded down.
  • the fixing of the folds thus folded down to the corresponding walls can advantageously be carried out by a weld 13. This can be done either at 59, during the continuous movement of the above-mentioned ribbon, or at 60 at each stop of the stepwise movement of this ribbon.
  • a continuous weld will be carried out for example for each wall, by an element 61 elongated in the direction of movement of the ribbon, electrically heated and radiating sufficient heat towards the ribbon in order to melt wall 2 and the fold together. 6 along the free edge 8 of the latter.

In this way, it fixes the reinforcement 9 to the fold 6 and to the wall 2 and, outside said reinforcement 5, it fixes the fold 6 to the wall 2.
  • 64 is practiced cutting 5 serving as a handle, by means of a knife, the control of which will be described below.
  • the two thicknesses 52 are joined at 66 by the action of at least one heated element and arranged perpendicular to the direction of movement of the ribbon 51 and momentarily pressed. against the two thicknesses 52 to make a weld.
  • This weld 18 obtained by heat and pressure produces the contiguous lateral edges 17 of two successive bags 1 during formation. This welding is carried out between two pairs of cuts 5, either at an equal distance from these two pairs of cuts (FIG. 12) or even at unequal distances from these two pairs if it is desired to obtain a bag as illustrated in FIG. figure 16.
  • the bag in formation which is furthest downstream with respect to the direction of movement of the plastic tape is formed by this last welding operation and it is separated from the bag in formation, which is immediately adjacent to it, between its edge lateral 17 and the lateral edge 17 which is contiguous to it and which belongs to the last bag in formation.
  • Another method of manufacturing a bag 1 according to the invention consists, in order to reinforce the bags being formed, in carrying out the same operations as those described above, namely: driving step by step and along its longitudinal axis a ribbon 51 of plastic material formed of two superimposed thicknesses 52 joined by a fold 53 forming one of the longitudinal edges of the ribbon 51 and intended to constitute the bottoms of the bags.
  • Each step still corresponds to the dimension L of the bag to be manufactured.

Description

The present invention relates to a heat-sealable plastic bag, each of the two walls of which is provided, in an area close to the opening of said bag, with at least one cutout serving as a handle, each of said walls having in this area a reinforcement constituted , on the one hand, by a fold folded over the wall and forming one of the edges of the opening of the bag, this fold being arranged so that its free edge is located between said cutout and the bottom of the bag and, on the other hand , by a reinforcement formed by a portion of flat material associated with the bag between said fold and the aforementioned wall, the position and the dimensions of the reinforcement being such that the aforementioned cutout is located entirely in this reinforcement, the fold folded over the wall being fixed , by welding or gluing, to the latter along its free edge.

Many types of bags are known with reinforcement of the area where the cutting is used as a handle. Among these bags, some have a reinforcement obtained by one or two folds of the wall at the location of each edge of the opening, this or these folds being welded to the corresponding wall. Others have their edges trimmed with a reinforcement jumper. Another category is made up of bags, the aforementioned area of each wall of which is doubled by a reinforcement attached to the outside or inside of the bag, this reinforcement being either welded or glued: see the reinforcements welded or glued inside. of the bag according to FIGS. 1 to 6 of FR-A-2,052,639 which further shows in FIGS. 7 to 13 of bags whose area comprising the cut-out handle is reinforced, on the one hand, by a fold of the corresponding wall folded back inside the bag and fixed to this wall and, on the other hand, by a strip of free material arranged in the space formed between plies, wall and fixing of the ply to the wall.

The strengthening of the aforementioned bags remains insufficient, however, if we want them to be price competitive. If, on the other hand, a more solid reinforcement is desired, the qualities of the materials to be used and the wall thicknesses and / or the reinforcement to be produced greatly increase the manufacturing costs. In addition, in many cases, the method of reinforcement or the technique used to fix the reinforcement spoils the appearance of the bag thus produced.

The object of the present invention is to provide a bag of which a double reinforcement of each wall is limited to the place cutting, this reinforcement can be easily adapted to the conditions of use of the bag.

To this end, according to the invention, the aforementioned reinforcement is assembled, on at least a large part of its surface and in its zone surrounding the cut, either on the face of the folded fold turned towards the corresponding wall, or on this wall opposite said fold, the folded fold being fixed to the corresponding wall over a distance at least equal to the dimension of the cut taken parallel to the bottom of the bag.

According to one embodiment of the invention, the fold is folded over the internal face of the wall of the corresponding bag when the reinforcement is assembled to the above-mentioned face of the fold.

The invention also relates to a method of manufacturing the above bag.

According to the invention, the method consists, either in a bag already formed, or in a bag being formed, to present, near the free edges of the walls of the bag arranged flat, a pair of said reinforcements, to be fixed simultaneously , by gluing or welding and on at least a large part of its surface, a reinforcement to each wall, to simultaneously form the aforementioned fold on each wall of the bag, to simultaneously fold the pleats on their corresponding wall so that each reinforcement is located, on at least a large part of its surface, between the wall and the corresponding folded fold, to simultaneously fix the aforementioned free edges of the folds folded to their corresponding wall, over a distance at least equal to the dimension of the abovementioned cutouts taken parallel to the bottom of the bag and to practice simultaneously said cuts in the two walls of the bag, in their reinforcement zone formed by the wall, the reinforcement and the fold folded over the wall.

On the other hand, the invention also relates to an installation for the above-mentioned implementation.

According to the invention, the installation comprises means for presenting, either in an already formed bag or in a bag being formed, a pair of reinforcements near the free edges of the walls of the bag arranged flat, means arranged to fix , by gluing or welding and over a large part of its surface, a reinforcement of each pair to a wall, means for forming a fold along the aforementioned free edge of each wall, means for folding this fold over the corresponding wall so that each reinforcement is located between the wall and this folded fold, means for fixing this fold to the corresponding wall, means for making a cut in the area of each of the two walls, reinforced by the above folded fold and the aforementioned reinforcement.

Comparative tensile strength tests were carried out on bags according to the invention and on known bags, the reinforcement of which consists of a rectangular reinforcement of heat-weldable material welded to the internal face of each wall at the location of the cut.

For equal thicknesses of walls and reinforcements, the known bags withstood a load of 229 N before tearing at the place of cutting while the bags according to the invention withstood, under identical test conditions, a load of 300 N or 31% higher than that supported by the known bag.

Other details and particularities of the invention will emerge from the secondary claims and from the description of the drawings appended to this specification and which illustrate, by way of nonlimiting examples, the bag, the method and particular embodiments of the. installation according to the invention.

In FIG. 1, the bag 1 according to the invention consists of a heat-sealable plastic, and in particular of polyethylene. This bag has in each of its two walls 2 a zone 3, close to its opening 4, in which a cutout 5 is formed forming a handle. This handle cutout can be, among other things, of the semi-carried type or completely cut out. In order to increase the tear resistance of zone 3, this is reinforced, on the one hand, by a fold 6 folded over the wall 2 to form one of the edges 7 of the opening 4 of the bag 1, the edge free 8 of the fold being disposed on the other side of the cutout 5 that the edge 7 of the opening of the bag, and, on the other hand, by a reinforcement 9 produced for example from a portion of flat material, advantageously cut in the shape of a rectangle. This reinforcement 9 is associated with the bag, in a manner which will be described later, in order to be disposed between the fold 6 folded over the wall 2 and the latter. In addition, the dimensions of this reinforcement are greater than the corresponding dimensions of the contour 10 of the cutout 5 forming the handle and the position of the reinforcement is determined so that the cutout 5 is entirely located there. In order for the reinforcement to be complete, the invention provides that the fold 6 folded over the wall is fixed, in 10 'to the latter at least along its free edge 8, facing the cutout 5, over a distance at least equal to the dimension of this cut taken parallel to the bottom 14 of the bag.

By carrying out this fixing, the tensions generated in the walls by the weight accumulated in the bag, when the latter is used, are concentrated at the place of the handles and are distributed around each cut 5 in the thicknesses of the wall 2, folded fold 6, and associated reinforcement 9.

Suivant les cas d'espèce et l'aspect esthétique recherché et de même suivant les moyens techniques dont on dispose, on peut, tel que montré à la figure 2, rabattre le pli 6 sur la face externe 11 (figures 2, 3 et 8) ou sur la face interne 12 (figures 4 à 7)de la paroi 2 du sac 1.Depending on the specific case and the desired aesthetic appearance and likewise according to the technical means available, it is possible, as shown in FIG. 2, to fold the fold 6 over the external face 11 (FIGS. 2, 3 and 8 ) or on the internal face 12 (FIGS. 4 to 7) of the wall 2 of the bag 1.

The reinforcement 9, associated with the bag and located between the fold folded over the wall 2 and the latter will be fixed, as the case may be, to the fold 6 (Figures 2, 4 and 7) or to the wall 2 (Figures 3, 5 and 8 ). It can also (FIG. 6) have a larger dimension than in the preceding figures and be fixed to the fold 6 and to the wall 2 and then folded up during the formation of the fold 6, this in order to obtain an even greater reinforcement.

If the reinforcement 9 is constituted by a heat-sealable material compatible with the material constituting the walls 2 and the folds 6, it can advantageously be welded to the wall and / or to the fold.

We can still prefer the arrangement according to Figure 4 where the weld mark and the free edge 8 are hidden from view to improve the exterior finish of the bag while ensuring the same resistance.

In the case where the reinforcement 9 is glued either to the wall 2 or to the fold 6, it is also possible to adopt one of the four solutions shown in FIGS. 2 to 5, since this method of fixing the reinforcement does not deform the element to which we fix it.

The fixing of the fold 6 to the wall 2 is usually carried out by a weld 13, the latter consisting either of weld points or advantageously in a weld line. This does not cause significant deformation of the wall because the weld 13 combines two materials (wall and fold) identical from the point of view of their characteristics and their thicknesses. This weld 13 will preferably be arranged parallel to the free edge 8 of the fold, the latter normally being cut straight along a parallel to the bottom 14 of the bag.

According to one embodiment, the reinforcement 9 consists partly of a material such as cardboard and partly of a heat-sealable material or entirely of a heat-sealable material compatible with the heat-sealable material of the fold 6 or of the wall 2. In this In this case, the reinforcement having a sufficient dimension B and being suitably arranged, can be joined, in its heat-sealable part, to the wall 2 and to the fold 6 by the weld 13 fixing the fold to the wall 2 (FIGS. 7 and 8) . This is added to the aforementioned fixing of the reinforcement to the wall or to the fold to ensure greater solidity of the reinforcement zone.

According to one embodiment of the invention, the reinforcement 9 (FIGS. 2 to 5) will have a dimension B, taken perpendicular to the edge 7 of the opening of the bag, less than the distance taken between said edge 7 and the weld 13. In this case, the reinforcement 9 may be fixed to the wall 2 or to the fold 6 of the reinforcement zone 3 so as to be located away from the weld 13. Thus, if the weld 13 extends from one edge 17 to the other of the bag, it is easier to produce since it combines from one end to the other the same two materials (fold 6 and wall 2) whose thicknesses are generally constant.

To further improve the effectiveness of the reinforcement in zone 3 of the bag, it is advantageous to provide at least two welds 16, each being carried out on either side of the cutout 5. These two welds are at least transverse to the edges 7 of opening the bag. It is however easier in most cases to have these welds 16 perpendicular to said edge 7.

Si cependant elles sont réalisées de part et d'autre du renfort 9, elles fixent le pli 6 à la paroi 2 (figures 10 et 11).It is planned to locate these welds 16 at a location in zone 3 where the reinforcement 9 is located so that these welds fix the wall 2 and the fold 6 to the reinforcement 9. If however they are made on either side of the reinforcement 9, they fix the fold 6 to the wall 2 (Figures 10 and 11).

Among the bags 1 according to the invention, there are inter alia bags called bags with lateral welds (Figures 12, 14 and 16). These latter bags are produced from a sheet of plastic material folded in half, the fold 13 'thus obtained forms the bottom 14 of the bag (FIG. 13). The two walls 2 constituted by a portion of the plastic sheet are fixed to each other, along each of their edges 17 contiguous to the bottom 14 formed by the fold 13 ', by a weld 18 well known from the skilled person.

In the case of bags with lateral welds, the welds 16 transverse or perpendicular to the edge 7 of the opening 4 are advantageously produced by the lateral welds 18 of the bag. The welds 16 may however complement these lateral welds 18, and be located between the latter and the handle cutout 5.

The bottom 14 of the bag 1 can be formed by a fold 13 'as already mentioned above, it can however be formed by several folds 19 so as to present a bellows 20 (FIG. 15) which, when unfolded, allows to put the bag upright to facilitate the introduction of the objects to put in it.

In general, the cutout 5 serving as a handle for the bags 1 is placed at equal distance from the edges 17 contiguous to the bottom 14 of the bag, the reinforcement also being practically at equal distance from these edges 17.

In certain cases, however, the cutout 5 and the reinforcement 9 of each wall 2 are deliberately offset so as to be closer to one of the edges 17 (FIG. 16). This makes it possible to transport objects protruding from the bag along the edge 17 opposite the first cited edge.

The bag according to FIG. 1 can be a bag, the bottom of which is formed by a weld connecting the two walls 2, the lateral edges 17 being constituted by the folds joining the two walls 2 and obtained for example by extrusion and blowing of the plastic material. . The bags shown in Figures 9 to 11 are models that can also be applied to bottom weld bags. The side edges of these bottom welded bags have bellows in an advantageous embodiment of the bag according to the invention.

The invention provides (Figures 17 and 18) a method of manufacturing the bag 1 described above. This process applies either in the case of a bag already formed or for a bag in the process of being formed, regardless of whether the bag has a bottom weld or lateral welds. The method consists, in order to reinforce the zone 3 of each wall 2 where a cutout 5 serving as a handle is practiced, to present at 55 a pair of reinforcements 9, which have already been defined above, near the edges free 21 (Figure 19) of the walls of the bag arranged flat, the method of manufacturing said reinforcements 9 being known per se. A reinforcement 9 of the pair is simultaneously fixed to each corresponding wall 2 of the bag so as to be associated with this wall 2 to occupy the position provided between the folded fold 6 below and the wall 2. This fixing can be obtained by gluing of the reinforcement 9 to the wall 2 or, if the reinforcement 9 consists of a heat-sealable plastic material compatible with the material of the bag, it can be welded to this wall 2 over a large part of its surface. These folds 6 are formed and folded down so that each reinforcement 9 is located, on at least a large part of its surface, between the wall 2 and the corresponding fold 6. Each of the folded folds 6 is fixed simultaneously (at 59) to the corresponding wall 2 over a distance at least equal to the size of the cutouts 5, forming the handles, taken parallel to the bottom of the bag, this fixing being done along the free edge 8 of the fold 6, opposite said cut 5, between the latter and the free edge 8 of the folded fold. This fixing will advantageously consist of a weld 13. According to the dimensions and the relative positions of the folds and the reinforcements, the fold 6 is thus welded to the corresponding wall 2 to obtain a bag according to one of FIGS. 2 to 5 or else the reinforcement 9 is welded to the fold 6 and to the wall 2 in the zone of said reinforcement (FIGS. 7 and 8) and optionally outside this zone, the folded fold 6 is welded to the corresponding wall 2. Finally, at 64, the cutouts 5 serving as handles are practiced in the reinforcement zone 3 of each of the two walls 2 thus formed and comprising the wall 2, the reinforcement 9 and the folded fold 6 on the wall 2.

In the case of a bag with lateral welds as shown in FIGS. 12, 14 and 16, the method more especially comprises the following operations integrated in the course of the formation of said bag 1. We train at 50 (FIGS. 17 and 18) , step by step and along its longitudinal axis a plastic tape 51 consisting of two thicknesses 52 (Figure 19) superimposed which are joined by a fold 53 forming one of the longitudinal edges of the ribbon, this fold 53 being intended to constitute the funds 14 of the bags. This ribbon 51 can be obtained in different ways. We can take a single thickness material that we fold in half. One can also use a ribbon made up of two thicknesses 52, linked together by a fold along each of the edges of these two thicknesses. Such a tape is obtained by extrusion, blowing and winding after flattening the hose thus formed for plastics such as polyethylene. In the latter case, one of the two folds formed during the flattening of the hose is cut to serve as an opening to the bag while the second fold 53 is kept to constitute the bottoms 14 of the bags. Each step of the aforementioned step-by-step movement corresponds to the dimension L of a bag to be produced, this dimension being taken parallel to the above fold 53 forming the bottom 14 of the bag. This step-by-step movement makes it possible to carry out operations during a cyclic stopping time of the ribbon 51. Beforehand, the two thicknesses forming the ribbon are separated at 54 from one another. This makes it possible to introduce at 55 a pair of reinforcements 9 between these two thicknesses 52, at each step and transversely to the longitudinal axis of the ribbon. They can be introduced either during the movement of the ribbon 51 or when the latter stops. The dimension A of these reinforcing parts, taken parallel to the fold 53, is less than the above-mentioned pitch. The other dimension B of the reinforcements is determined by the dimensions of the cutout 5 forming a handle and by the area 3 that we want to reinforce. At each stop of the moment step by step, a reinforcement 9 of the pair is fixed to the corresponding thickness 52 along the free edge 52 'of this thickness which is opposite to the fold 53. This reinforcement 9 can be fixed either using of an adhesive either by means of a weld, made over a large part of its surface. Bonding is preferably done by coating the fixing face of the reinforcement 9, using a product or a mixture of products which becomes adhesive after a drying time, and possibly reheating to activate this drying. The fixing being carried out, the strip of material 51 is given at 56 a continuous movement along its longitudinal axis and in the same direction as the above-mentioned stepwise movement. During this continuous movement, a fold 6 is formed at 57 along each free edge 52 ′ of the thicknesses 52 of said strip 51, the dimension C of this fold, taken perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the ribbon, being greater than the distance which separates the most distant edge, 58 from a reinforcement of the free edge 52 'of the corresponding thickness 52. Then, during this continuous movement of the ribbon 51, the folds 6 formed on the faces of the above-mentioned thicknesses which are turned towards each other and which will constitute the internal faces 12 of the walls of the bag are folded down.

The fixing of the folds thus folded down to the corresponding walls can advantageously be carried out by a weld 13. This can be done either at 59, during the continuous movement of the above-mentioned ribbon, or at 60 at each stop of the stepwise movement of this ribbon. In the first case, a continuous weld will be carried out for example for each wall, by an element 61 elongated in the direction of movement of the ribbon, electrically heated and radiating sufficient heat towards the ribbon in order to melt wall 2 and the fold together. 6 along the free edge 8 of the latter. In the second case, the continuous movement of the ribbon 51 is first transformed into 62 into a step-by-step movement whose step is equal to that of the aforementioned step-by-step movement and in the same direction and the same direction as those of the movement continued. At each stop of this last step-by-step movement, an element 63 is brought against the fold 6 and the wall 2, arranged parallel to the direction of movement of the ribbon and heated, in order to press the fold one on the other and the wall and melt them together by pressure and heat to weld them along the free edge 8 of the folded fold.

In the two cases of welding, continuous or step by step, set out above, it is possible to choose the location of the welding 13 on the bag so that it associates only the folded fold 6 with the wall 2 , when this weld 13 is made between the reinforcement 9 and the free edge 8 of the fold (case of the bag in FIG. 4). The weld 13 can also advantageously be located between the cutout 5 and the edge of the reinforcement 9, the closest to the free edge 8 and parallel to it (case of the bag in FIG. 7). In this way, it fixes the reinforcement 9 to the fold 6 and to the wall 2 and, outside said reinforcement 5, it fixes the fold 6 to the wall 2. In the zone 3 of each wall 2 thus reinforced, at each stop of the tape 51 resulting from the step-by-step movement, 64 is practiced cutting 5 serving as a handle, by means of a knife, the control of which will be described below.

In addition, during a stop of the ribbon 51 resulting from this same step-by-step movement, the two thicknesses 52 are joined at 66 by the action of at least one heated element and arranged perpendicular to the direction of movement of the ribbon 51 and momentarily pressed. against the two thicknesses 52 to make a weld. This weld 18 obtained by heat and pressure produces the contiguous lateral edges 17 of two successive bags 1 during formation. This welding is carried out between two pairs of cuts 5, either at an equal distance from these two pairs of cuts (FIG. 12) or even at unequal distances from these two pairs if it is desired to obtain a bag as illustrated in FIG. figure 16. The bag in formation which is furthest downstream with respect to the direction of movement of the plastic tape is formed by this last welding operation and it is separated from the bag in formation, which is immediately adjacent to it, between its edge lateral 17 and the lateral edge 17 which is contiguous to it and which belongs to the last bag in formation.

Another method of manufacturing a bag 1 according to the invention consists, in order to reinforce the bags being formed, in carrying out the same operations as those described above, namely: driving step by step and along its longitudinal axis a ribbon 51 of plastic material formed of two superimposed thicknesses 52 joined by a fold 53 forming one of the longitudinal edges of the ribbon 51 and intended to constitute the bottoms of the bags. Each step still corresponds to the dimension L of the bag to be manufactured. The two thicknesses 52 are moved apart from each other, between these two thicknesses 52 separated, introduced transversely to the longitudinal axis of the ribbon 51, at each step and either when the ribbon is in motion or at a standstill, a pair of reinforcements 9 whose dimension A is less than one step. Is fixed at 55, during each stop, a reinforcement 9 to the corresponding thickness 52, along its free edge 52 '. The ribbon is always driven by the same movement step by step and, during the movement or during the stop, a fold 6 is formed along the two free edges 52 ′, the dimension C of this fold being greater than the distance separating the edge 58 of a reinforcement of the free edge 52 'of the corresponding thickness. Similarly, during the stepwise movement or during its stopping, the folds 6 thus formed are folded down on the faces 12 of thicknesses 52 so that these folds 6 are present inside the bag, the reinforcements 9 being located between these folds 6 and the corresponding thickness 52. The weld 13 is then produced, at each stop of the step by step, folds 6 folded over the thicknesses 53 to the latter, parallel to the free edges 8. The weld 13 is advantageously arranged to obtain either a bag according to FIGS. 4 and 5 where the reinforcement 9 is not fixed to the fold 6 and to the wall 2 by this weld 13, or a bag for example according to FIG. 7, for which the reinforcement 9 is fixed to the fold 6 and to the wall 2 by the welding 13. From this step, we find the steps already described in the previous process. In the zone 3 thus reinforced, the cutting 5 is practiced at 64 at each stop of the ribbon 51. Then, the lateral edges 17 of the bag are formed by a weld at 66 at each stop of the ribbon 51 and a bag 1 is separated formed from the immediately adjacent bag that is being formed.

To fix each fold 6 to the corresponding thickness 52, one technique consists in carrying out the weld 13 during each stop of the movement step by step while the cut 5 is made simultaneously in the two thicknesses 52.

Another technique consists in making this weld 13 continuously while the ribbon 51 is moved continuously along its longitudinal axis to form the folds 6 and fold them over their corresponding thickness.

Ce dernier pliage se fait en 71'.Instead of presenting and fixing the reinforcements 9 to a ribbon 51 in two thicknesses 52 as described above, it is possible to form the bag according to the invention from a ribbon of single-thickness material 70 (FIG. 20 ) that is driven continuously, for example to unwind a coil on which it is stored. This movement is transformed into a step-by-step movement to place the reinforcements 9 at 71 along the two longitudinal edges 52 ′ of the ribbon and to fix them there at each stop of the step-by-step movement then the step-by-step movement of the ribbon 70 in one movement continuous better suited to the following operation which consists in folding in two the single thickness ribbon 70 along its longitudinal axis to obtain a double thickness ribbon. The following operations are those already described above and consist of forming and folding the folds 6, fixing these folds 6, making the cut 5 and forming the side edges 17 of the bag. They assume the same changes of continuous movement in step by step movement and vice versa. This last folding is done in 71 '.

The direction of movement during these operations is always the same despite the movement transformation (s).

Le dernier pliage cité se fait en 71'.If it is desired to make the bag 1 according to the invention from a ribbon 70 in single thickness, it is still possible (FIG. 21) to drive this ribbon continuously, for example to unwind it from a reel of storage, along its longitudinal axis and bringing it to 71 where there is transversely to this axis, reinforcements 9 in pairs, along the free edges 52 ′ of the tape 70. During this continuous drive of the tape 70, measures the passage of lengths of tape equal to the dimension L of the bag. Each time that such a length is detected, the reinforcements 9 of a pair are communicated a speed substantially equal to the speed of the ribbon 70 so that they move in the same direction and the same direction as this ribbon 70 and the 'is fixed, either by gluing or by welding, the reinforcements 9 of a pair to the simple thickness of material during this common movement. When the length equal to the dimension L of the bag has been detected, the measurement is repeated to cyclically detect this length. Thus, the pairs of reinforcements 9 will be fixed along the edges 52 'so that the reinforcements located along the same edge are equidistant while the reinforcements of the same pair are opposite one another. Then, still during this same continuous movement, the folds 6 are formed at 72 so that they have a dimension C, taken perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the strip 70, which is greater than the distance separating the edge 58 from a reinforcement. from the corresponding free edge 52 '. These folds formed at 73 are folded over the face of the ribbon 70 of simple thickness so that the reinforcements 9 are located between the folds and the corresponding face of the ribbon. Always during the continuous movement, the folds are fixed at 74 at the corresponding thickness by a continuous weld, already mentioned above, along their free edges 8. FIG. 20 shows this weld 13 away from the reinforcements 9 but it can also be arranged to weld the reinforcements 9 to the folded fold 6 and to the corresponding thickness of the ribbon 70. Then, the ribbon thus reinforced is folded in half, along its two longitudinal edges, along its longitudinal axis to form the ribbon in double thickness in which the reinforcements of the same pair overlap. The following operations have already been described above, they begin with the production of the cutout 5. The last folding mentioned is done at 71 '.

The present invention also provides an installation for implementing the method or one of the methods described above.

An installation according to the invention comprises (FIGS. 17 and 18) means known per se consisting for example of a suction and rotating table 75 for presenting either in a bag already formed or in a bag being formed, a pair of reinforcements 9 near the free edges 20 (FIG. 19) of the walls 2 of the bag arranged flat, means 76 known per se for fixing, for example by welding, a reinforcement 9 of each pair to a wall 2 of the bag, means 77, such as folding rods to form a fold 6 along the aforementioned free edge 20 of each wall, means 78, for example other folding rods, for folding this fold 6 onto the corresponding wall so that each reinforcement 9 is located between wall 2 and this fold 6, means 79 for fixing this fold 6, for example by a weld 13, to the corresponding wall, means 80 for making a cut 5, like a knife driven by an approach movement and bringing them into contact with the walls 2, in their zone reinforced 3, and removal after cutting.

In the case of bags being formed (FIGS. 17 and 18), the installation described below is provided for making bags with lateral welds and it advantageously comprises, to reinforce the zone 3 of the walls 2, means 81 for animate the ribbon 51 with a translational movement in step by step (for example by a rack or sector system actuated by a device with connecting rod and crank) or continuously (for example by one or more motors with electronic control), means 75 for presenting the reinforcements in pairs, such as the rotary and suction table already mentioned , transversely to said longitudinal axis, along the two free longitudinal edges 52 ′ of the ribbon 51, means 76 for fixing a reinforcement 9 of each pair to said ribbon, along each of its free longitudinal edges 52 ′. These latter means can be heat and pressure welding systems or devices for gluing the reinforcements and for applying the reinforcements glued to the tape 51. This installation also includes means 77 for forming a fold 6 along each. edges 52 'and means 78 for folding this fold 6 over the corresponding wall so that the reinforcements 9 are situated between the folded fold 6 on the wall and the latter. These means 77 and 78 consist, when this folding is done during a continuous movement of the ribbon 51, of folding rods, folding plates and rollers guiding the walls and the folds. There are also, in this installation, means 79 for fixing the folded folds 6 to their corresponding wall, by a continuous weld, during the continuous movement of the ribbon or by an alternative weld if the ribbon is moved step by step, means 80 equipped with a knife, the shape of which can be chosen as a function of the form of cutout which it is desired to make for the handles, and means 82 comprising at least one heated element for carrying out, by heat and by pressure, the welding of the lateral edges 17 of the bags in formation perpendicular to the direction of movement of the tape 51 and of the means 82 ′ associated with the means for welding the lateral edges, like a knife housed between two heated elements for welding, and intended to separate a bag shape of a bag in formation. The means 82 for carrying out the welding and the means for carrying out the separation may be only one heated element, arranged perpendicular to the direction of movement of the tape 51, for welding and for separating. These two means for welding the lateral edges and for separating a formed bag are moved back and forth so that they are in contact with the tape 51 at each stop of the latter and so that they deviate from it before the ribbon 51 is set in motion by the step by step.

An advantageous embodiment of the installation according to the invention, for the manufacture of bags with lateral welds comprises means 83 such as motorized rubberized rollers arranged to drive step by step, in a direction parallel to its longitudinal axis, a ribbon 51 of plastic formed from two superimposed thicknesses 52. A step given by this training corresponds to the dimension L of the bag to be manufactured. The installation also includes, at 54, means not shown, consisting for example of rods, for spreading the two thicknesses 52 from one another, over a distance greater than the dimension A of the reinforcements, so that the means 75 which introduce the reinforcements 9 between the thicknesses 52 do so without the reinforcements 9 and or the thicknesses 52 interfering and deforming by being pushed one against the other. These latter means 75 consist of a rotary and suction table capable of transporting at least one reinforcement on each of its faces and supplied with reinforcements by a device known per se. The reinforcements being advantageously made of a heat-weldable material, means 76 for welding a reinforcement of each pair to the corresponding thickness 52 are associated with the introduction means so that the reinforcement is welded to the wall at each stop of the resulting stepping step tape. These means 76 for fixing by welding comprise a heated element which is pressed against the strip and the reinforcement to melt them together at least along weld lines distributed over a large surface of the reinforcement. Downstream of these means for welding the reinforcements in the direction of movement of the ribbon 51, means 84, such as motorized drive rollers, are provided to communicate a continuous movement at constant speed to the ribbon 51 and in the same direction as the step by step movement. During this continuous movement, means 77 form a fold 6 along each free edge 52 'of thicknesses 52 and other means 78 fold these folds 6, formed by means 77 and lined with reinforcements 9, on the faces 12 of thicknesses 52 so that the reinforcements are located between these folds 6 and the corresponding face 12. Each of these folds 6 is welded continuously, during the movement continuous of the ribbon 51, by means 85 which consist for example of heated and curved elements 61 each radiating sufficient heat towards a thickness and its associated ply, along a line parallel to the longitudinal axis of the ribbon 51, the thicknesses and their fold being stretched over a passage cylinder 60 'whose diameter matches the radius of bending of the elements 61 to create a determined air gap between an element 61 and a cylinder. This operation is carried out for each of the two plies 6. Next, the ribbon 51 passes by means 85 ′ such as motorized rubberized rollers to impart a step-by-step movement to said ribbon 51. The pitch of this new movement is of the same amplitude than that of the step by step movement described at the beginning of this installation. Means 80 give a movement back and forth to a knife 65 so that it performs cutting 5 when the tape 51 is stopped by the stepwise movement provided by the means 85 'and so that the knife is withdrawn before these means 85 'set the ribbon 51 in motion again to advance it one step. As already said, it is possible to have knives of different shapes depending on the desired cut shape.

Elles peuvent cependant être réalisées, toujours entre ces découpes, mais pour que, dans un sac formé, la découpe 5 soit décalée par rapport aux bords latéraux 17 (figure 16).Thanks to this step by step movement, there is a material advance and a stop thereof which are cyclic and which allow means 82 to perform the welding of the side edges of the bags and associated means 82 'to make separation of the bags as they are formed. These welds and separation have been explained above. As already said, these welds and this separation forming the lateral edges 17 of the bags are made midway between two pairs of immediately adjacent cutouts 5. They can however be produced, always between these cutouts, but so that, in a formed bag, the cutout 5 is offset with respect to the lateral edges 17 (FIG. 16).

A particularly advantageous embodiment of the installation according to the invention comprises, for the manufacture of bags with lateral welds according to FIGS. 12, 14 and 16, the same means as those defined for the above installation, up to and including including those which fix the reinforcements 9. This other embodiment of the installation therefore comprises the means 83 for driving the ribbon 51 in double thickness step by step, the means not shown for spreading the two thicknesses 52 at 54 from one another, the means 75 for introducing the reinforcements 9 between the thicknesses 52 and the means 76 for welding the reinforcements 9 to the corresponding thickness 52. Downstream of these means for welding the reinforcements 9, the step-by-step movement is preserved, in order to present the strip in double thickness to the means which follow. The ribbon 51 is brought in step by step to means 77 which form a fold along the free edge (52 ′) of the two thicknesses 52 of the ribbon 51. These means can be rods placed on the passage of said free edges in case these folds are formed during the movement of the step by step. These means 77 can be parts marking the fold at the stop of the step by step. Means 78 fold the two folds 6 thus formed over the corresponding thickness 52 either during the movement of the step by step, in case they may consist of rods deforming the edge to fold the fold, or during the stopping of the step at not, for example if these means are pliers which at each stop take the folds to fold them over the corresponding thickness. Still in step by step, the ribbon is brought to the means 79 which weld the folds 6 to the thickness corresponding to each stop of the step by step. These means generally consist of two heated elements, each being pressed at each stop of the strip 51, against a fold 6 and the corresponding thickness for welding them and forming the weld 13; the elements are put away from the fold and the thickness before the ribbon is set in motion. The step-by-step movement brings the area for reinforcing the thicknesses 52 of the ribbon 51 to the location of the means 80. From these means 80 for cutting 5 in the reinforcement areas 3, the description is identical to that of the previous installation.

Another particularly advantageous embodiment of the installation comprises (FIG. 21) means for continuously driving, along its longitudinal axis, a ribbon 70 of single thickness, for example wound on a reel not shown. The ribbon 70 is thus brought at 71 opposite known means which have, transversely to said longitudinal axis, pairs of reinforcements, a reinforcement 9 of each pair being disposed near one of the free edges 52 '. Means not shown, such as a meter or a pulse counter and an encoder, are arranged to measure the passage of a length of tape 70 corresponding to the dimension L of a bag, taken parallel to the abovementioned longitudinal axis. When these means detect the passage of a length L, on the one hand, they reset to zero to measure a new identical length and, on the other hand, they give each detection, a signal that is used to communicate , at each reinforcement of each pair, a speed equal to the speed of the ribbon 70 in the same direction and in the same direction as the latter by means not shown, for example constituted by rubberized rollers momentarily driven at each signal, and to fix by means not shown each reinforcement to the simple thickness of material. The reinforcement, for example being coated with adhesive, will be applied to the tape by these fixing means which may be an applicator and pressure element. These means communicating a speed to the reinforcements 9 and these fixing means are arranged and arranged so that the reinforcements of the same pair are opposite one another. The ribbon being always driven continuously, folds are formed along its two free edges 52 ', at 72, using folding rods arranged on the passage of said free edges. Complementary rods fold at 73 the folds 6 formed on the ribbon 70 in single thickness so that the reinforcements 9 fixed along the free edges are located between their corresponding fold and the simple thickness of material. The ribbon being driven by a continuous movement, a continuous long welding device as already described will advantageously be used to fix at 74 each ply 6 to the simple thickness. For the record, this device generally comprises a passage cylinder 60 ′ and a heated and curved element 61 by fold to be welded. In the present case, a single passage cylinder 60 ′ is sufficient and a heated and curved element 61 is positioned at the location of each of the two fixings, of a fold and of the thickness, to be produced by welding. When the folds 6 are fixed by a weld 13 to the thickness 70, the latter is folded in half at 71 'along its longitudinal axis by a device of known range comprising a folding triangle and pinch rollers.

The ribbon 70 folded to form a double thickness ribbon 51 is then animated with a step-by-step movement, in the same direction as the above-mentioned continuous movement, by means such as those bearing the reference 85 'in FIG. 17 and which consist of rubberized rollers controlled step by step for example by a sector having a reciprocating movement.

This step-by-step movement is used to carry out, at each of its stops, the operations practicing cutting 5, forming the welding of the edges 17 and effecting the separation of a formed bag. The means used for these operations have already been described above.
