Definitions
- the present invention relates to an alpine ski.
- Alpine skis are used in various conditions on prepared pistes, or off piste and on snow of different qualities, powder snow, packed snow or even hard or even frozen snow. It is well known that, depending on its structure, and therefore on the nature and stacking of the materials which constitute it, a ski is better suited to developments on certain terrains and on certain types of snow than on others. Thus, for skiing on a hard or frozen track where good grip qualities are required, it is advantageous to have a nervous ski and in which the vibrations are eliminated. For skiing in powder snow, the nervousness of the ski is less important. Indeed, on hard snow, the mechanism for initiating and driving a turn implements, at the time of "edge grip", the internal dimension line of the ski outside the turn.
- the skier by regulating the effort and the direction of this effort on the edge, obtains a turn of more or less large radius.
- the mechanism for initiating the turn is completely different, since it is by lateral pivoting of the ends of the skis around the axis of the skier that the turn is obtained.
- the edges made of the most rigid material are positioned outwards, while on hard snow, they are, by inversion of the two skis, arranged opposite.
- skis whose upper face is connected to the lower face by inclined edges (FR 1.343.014).
- the angle of inclination of the edges, with respect to the underside, can be variable along the ski, namely: more acute at the tips of the tip and the heel than at the level of the skate (US 3,272,522).
- the inclination of the edges can also be asymmetrical, with one side more acute than the other (DE 1,939,540).
- a skier is therefore generally obliged to choose a ski presenting a compromise and whose predominant characteristics correspond to the type of terrain and to the type of snow which he prefers.
- the present invention aims to improve the versatility of existing skis, by providing a ski of suitable shape, providing it with excellent behavior both on hard snow and on powder snow.
- the ski which it concerns whose edges form, over at least part of their length, an angle with the sole, acute, of continuously variable inclination, and whose two edges are asymmetrical, is characterized in that the angle of inclination of one of the edges increases from the tip to the pad and decreases from the pad to the heel, while that the angle of inclination of the other edge decreases from the tip to the skate and increases from the skate to the heel, the two skis of the same pair being symmetrical to each other with respect to a plane situated longitudinally at halfway between the two skis. If the skis are used in powder snow, they are fitted so that the edges with bevelled ends face outwards. These bevelled ends will be used to cut the layer of powdery snow. This inclination at the ends of the ski forms an acute angle with the sole which increases progressively as it approaches the middle, or skate of the ski, until, in an exemplary embodiment, a song perpendicular to the level of the skier's foot is obtained.
- the edge On the second side of this same ski, in each of its end zones, that is to say in its zones located near the tip and the heel, the edge is vertical. This weak wall contributes to limiting the risk of crossing of the skis when they are "drowned” in powder snow.
- the edge gradually tilts progressively, from the tip-heel ends to the center of the ski, until you obtain, at the level of the skate, a edge inclined from the outside to the inside and the sole towards the upper face of the ski. This beveled area allows, in powder snow, to cut the snow mattress which tends to accumulate in front of the skier's feet. On harder snow, the two skis are fitted inversely.
- each ski turned from the inside is substantially vertical in the skid area, which ensures a "firm" edge grip.
- the outer edges of each of the skis are bevelled, which reduces the friction forces on the snow.
- the sum of the angles of inclination of the two edges with the sole is between 120 ° and 150 °.
- variable inclination of the edges results from the combination of an upper surface of the ski whose longitudinal axis is curvilinear and from the dimension line of the ski sole. which is symmetrical about its longitudinal rectilinear axis.
- the two edges delimiting the upper face may be located on arcs of circles with the same center, on arcs of circles with the same radii and different centers, on arcs of circles with different radii and different centers, on arcs of circles obtained by smoothing several arcs of circles, on sections of known geometric curves, such as parabola, hyperbola, ellipse, or on curves obtained by smoothing several of these known geometric curves.
- the inclined part of each edge is disposed above a part which, situated at the level of the lower edge, is perpendicular to the plane of the sole.
- the ski shown in the drawing comprises a central part 2, not described, delimited by a lower face 3, an upper face 4 and two lateral edges 5 and 6.
- the connection zone between the lower face 3 equipped with the sliding sole, and each of the side edges 5 and 6 is provided with edges 7.
- the ski according to the invention also comprises, in a known manner, a certain number of zones offset axially with respect to each other, namely from the front to the rear, a front zone or tip 8, a zone center or skid 9, and a rear zone or heel 10.
- the edge 5, in the areas of the tip and heel is inclined from the outside of the ski towards the inside, and from the lower face 3 towards the upper face 4 thereof.
- These inclined surfaces, designated by the references 12 and 13 respectively, form an angle with the underside of the ski, which increases continuously from each end of the ski towards the central part or skid thereof.
- the width of each inclined part 12, 13 decreases when one approaches the central part of the ski.
- the edge 6 is substantially perpendicular to the lower 3 and upper 4 surfaces in the areas of the tip 8 and the heel 10, and is in the form of a surface 14 inclined from the outside towards the inside and from the lower face 3 to the upper face 4, in the central zone or skate of the ski.
- the width of the inclined face 14 decreases from the skid zone in the direction of the ends of the ski, while the angle formed between the surface 14 and the underside 3 increases continuously from the skid zone 9 towards the tip 8 and heel 10 areas.
- the edges 15 and 16 delimited by the upper face 4 and the inclined parts 12, 13 on the one hand, and 14 on the other hand, are located on curvilinear lines. Therefore, the upper face of the ski, with a surface smaller than that of the lower face 3, forms a curved surface whose axis 17 intersects the longitudinal median plane 18 of the lower face in front and behind the skid area. 9.
- the two skis of the same pair having a symmetrical structure, the skier puts on the two skis as shown in Figure 5, if he has to move on hard snow.
- the two skis comprise, at the level of their facing edges, parts forming substantially a right angle with the upper and lower faces in the pad area 9, which promotes the attachment of the ski to the snow.
- edges 5 are located on the outside, and their inclined surfaces arranged in the tip areas and heel favor the initiation of turns by "splitting" the snow.
- the edges 6 being located opposite one another, the inclined surfaces 14 thereof promote the evacuation of the snow mattress accumulating in front of the skier's feet.
- the invention brings a great improvement to the existing technique, by providing a ski having excellent characteristics of versatility thanks to the asymmetry of its structure.
- the invention is not limited to the sole embodiment of this ski, described above by way of example; on the contrary, it embraces all of its variant embodiments.
- the edges 15 and 16 could not be curvilinear, but formed by straight segments and that the edges could not be planar but convex or concave, without going beyond the framework of the 'invention.
