Description

The invention applies to a device of this kind designed to distribute such sheets one by one to a processing or processing station. In such a system, the sheets are stacked on an openwork tray, generally made of wood, commonly called a pallet.

The invention relates more particularly to a set of means making it possible to execute automatically or almost automatically all of the operations consisting in evacuating an empty tray and in setting up another tray supporting a new stack of sheets, without interrupting the dispensing of said sheets or significant disruption of the distribution process of said sheets.

In a device of the kind defined above, the tray supporting the stack of sheets is placed on a lifting mechanism which gradually raises the assembly as the sheets are distributed, to compensate for the reduction in height of the stack. When only a limited number of sheets remain, the tray must be removed and a new stack supported by another tray must be installed. To avoid disturbing the distribution process, support bars, commonly called sabers, are manually slid between the non-contiguous planks of the tray to support the few remaining leaves. These bars are attached to fixed supports or an auxiliary lift to continue the distribution process. After the placement of these bars, the tray is lowered and evacuated. A new stack is then placed on the lifting mechanism which is raised until the top of the stack reaches the level of the bars or sabers, which are then removed. This manual process involves the mobilization of at least one operator for a non-negligible time and requires a certain dexterity on its part because the operation of the support bars can be damaging for the products, the leaves in particular risking being scratched.

Attempts to automate this process have so far encountered a difficulty related to dimensional differences and variations in positioning of the trays or pallets. Indeed, if the plate is offset, or skewed relative to the stack, the interstices through which one can engage said support bars are in variable and unpredictable locations.

The invention solves this problem and therefore proposes a feeding device with automatic or quasi-automatic operation, in particular making it possible to change the plates with greater ease and without risk of damaging the sheets of material.

In this spirit, the invention therefore essentially relates to a device for supplying sheet material, said sheets being stacked on an openwork tray, of the type comprising a lifting mechanism capable of supporting such a tray loaded with sheets and a mechanism temporary support for supporting a certain number of sheets during a tray change, characterized in that said support mechanism comprises a plurality of bars linked to or forming part of respective jacks capable of moving them in their own longitudinal directions under said sheets in interstices of a said plate and in that said jacks are carried by respective mobile equipment arranged to place said bars opposite such respective interstices.

According to another advantageous feature of the invention, each support bar, in association with its actuating cylinder, constitutes a feeler moved by the movable equipment along the plate, for an automatic search for a said gap.

  • - la figure 1 est une vue générale en plan d'un dispositif d'alimentation de feuilles conforme à l'invention;
The invention will be better understood and other advantages thereof will appear more clearly in the light of the following description of a possible embodiment of a device in accordance with its principle, given solely by way of example and made with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
  • - Figure 1 is a general plan view of a sheet feeding device according to the invention;
  • FIG. 2 is a detail view showing a support bar and its actuating cylinder; and
  • - Figure 3 is a block diagram illustrating the control of one of the mobile equipment of the device.

D'autre part, le plateau se présente parfois de travers (comme représenté) par rapport à la pile de feuilles proprement dite, ce qui accentue le problème relativement aux emplacements des interstices 22.Referring to the drawings, the sheet feeding device 11 comprises an elevating mechanism of which only a base 12 has been shown, subject to moving vertically (under the action of any suitable mechanical means), a fixed stop 13 and a movable stop 14, both perpendicular to the direction of distribution (indicated by the arrow F) of the sheets 15 and two lateral flanges 17, 18 parallel to said direction of distribution and the positioning of which is adjustable according to the format of the sheets 15 Distribution means, not shown, are arranged at the upper part of the device for picking up the sheets one by one and discharging them in the direction of the arrow F. The base 12 receives a stack of sheets 15; this pile is conventionally placed on a wooden skeleton 21, commonly called a pallet. Such trays, often of rudimentary construction, with non-adjoining planks, naturally include interstices 22 which are used to put in place the usual support bars which have been discussed above. However, the dimensions of the plates are neither precise nor standardized, so that the positions of said interstices inside the square or rectangular frame delimited by the stops 13, 14 and the flanges 17, 18, vary from pile to the other. On the other hand, the tray is sometimes askew (as shown) relative to the stack of sheets proper, which accentuates the problem relative to the locations of the interstices 22.

The feeder 11 is further equipped with a temporary support mechanism 25 to support a number of sheets during a tray change. According to the invention, this mechanism comprises a plurality of bars 26 (four in the example shown) linked to or forming part of pneumatic cylinders 27. The assembly is such that each bar can move in its own longitudinal direction, under the remaining sheets, by engaging in the aforementioned interstices 22. In addition, the jacks 27 are carried by respective moving parts 29, arranged to place the bars opposite such interstices 22. In the example shown, each jack 27 is arranged parallel to the corresponding bar 26, perpendicular to the direction of distribution F, to reduce the size of the device, on the sides. One end of the bar is coupled to the rod 27a of the cylinder. The free end 30 of the bar 26 acts as a probe capable of coming into contact with one side of a plate 21 during a movement of the corresponding moving element 29. To this end, this end 30 can be rounded, as shown, or provided with a roller. In addition, each bar 26 is provided with a plurality of rollers 31 arranged to come into contact with the sheets and thus avoid scratches. As can be seen in Figure 2, the rollers 31 are mounted along the bar 26 alternately projecting upward and downward. Each mobile assembly, on which a cylinder 27 is mounted, is essentially constituted by a pneumatic cylinder 35 fixed by means of a support 36 to one of the two flanges 17, 18. The elongation of this cylinder 35 therefore conditions the position of the assembly constituted by the bar 26 and the jack 27 along one side of the stack. The end 30, forming a feeler, of each bar 26 can therefore move along a certain stroke while remaining in contact with the edge of a plate 21 (when the latter has reached the level of the bars 26) and means for supplying actuating fluid are arranged to apply at the actuator 27 a low pressure during the displacement of the movable assembly, that is to say during part of the stroke of the corresponding actuator 35 and a high pressure at the end of a probing phase. These actuation fluid supply means are illustrated in FIG. 3. The end of a probing phase is determined by detection means 38 sensitive to the stroke of the jack 27. In the example specifically described, the jack 27 is supplied by one or the other of two compressed air sources, a low pressure source BP and a high pressure source HP, via a three-way solenoid valve 40 controlled by a control unit 41 of the electromechanical type or another whose design is within the reach of the skilled person. The detection means 38 comprise, for example, a cam 42 whose position is representative of the longitudinal displacement of the bar 26, and a sensor 45, for example a simple electromechanical contactor, placed to be actuated by the cam and electrically connected to control the control unit 41. The output of the latter is also connected to the control input of a solenoid valve 46 controlling the isolation of the jack 35 from its control pressure and its simultaneous venting. It will therefore be understood that the detection means 38 are combined with fluid switching means (40, 41) connected to supply the jack 27 at a low pressure or at a high pressure. The pressure switching takes place as soon as the bar 26 has engaged, during probing, by a predetermined distance in a gap of a plate. In addition, it appears that, thanks to the connection between the control unit 41 and the solenoid valve 46, the moving element is controlled by or operates in synchronism with the fluidic switching means, so as to stop the actuator 35 from displacement of the assembly constituted by the jack 27 and the bar 26 substantially simultaneously with the admission of the high pressure into the jack 27.

At the start of each plate change cycle, the jacks 35 define the starting positions for the bars 26, these positions being the closest to the fixed and mobile stops 13, 14. The starting position is fixed for the mobile equipment located in the side of the fixed stop 13 and "floating" depending on the format of the sheets, for the mobile equipment located on the side of the mobile stop 14. To do this, each actuator 35 located on the side of the mobile stop has two opposite rods, l 'one supporting the cylinder 27 and the other forming a reference probe 48 coming into contact with the movable stop 14. The assembly is completed by four retractable fingers 49 which deploy in the vicinity of the edges of the sheets. Two opposite fingers are provided, arranged in the direction of the distribution axis and two others in a perpendicular direction, between the bars 26.

Le fonctionnement est le suivant.The operation is as follows.

When the base 12 has reached a certain height and the plate (comprising only a small quantity of sheets) is at the height of the bars 26, low pressure is admitted into the jacks 27 at the same time as the jacks 35 are fed to begin to generate the probing of the edges of the plate by the different ends 30 of the bars 26. Each bar thus ends up meeting a gap 22 and engaging therein. When a bar is sufficiently engaged in the gap, the corresponding cam 42 actuates the contactor 45, which controls both the increase in pressure in the jack 27 and the stop of the jack 35 which is then made free. The bar 26 can then engage as far as possible in the gap. When the four bars are engaged, the sheets, which remain on the tray, are supported and the base 12 can be lowered with said empty tray. The latter is then discharged and replaced by a new battery, supported by another tray. The base is raised until the top of the stack is again at the level of the support bars 26. The bars are then removed by actuating the jacks 27 so that the last sheets of the previous stack come to rest on the new stack. The distribution process is thus practically undisturbed.
