Abstract

Insulated bag of the type with a double wall, consisting of a pair of polyethylene sheets (1, 2) held apart by a material (3) ensuring the presence of a layer of air, characterised in that the said material is of the type formed by a thin and flexible film which carries, on one face, bubbles or blisters of constant thickness and which are uniformly distributed over this face. <IMAGE>

Description

The present invention relates to a process for the manufacture of bags intended for the transport of so-called frozen products, which must be carried out in isothermal conditions for the preservation of these products, these bags comprising double walls made of polyethylene sheet, the material ensuring the spacing between the two walls consisting of a sheet of known type, being in the form of a thin film of polyethylene on one side of which are distributed bubbles or blisters filled with air.

The method according to the invention is of the continuous type, and consists in simultaneously simultaneously extruding two sheets of polyethylene, in folding together along their center these two sheets, in simultaneously causing the welding and the cutting at equal longitudinal intervals of the product formed. by the two sheets thus folded, to constitute blanks for bags, to insert between the two walls a bubble wrap as defined above and finally to weld on the outer edges of this blank reinforcement strips comprising handles, this welding simultaneously immobilizing the corresponding edges of the bubble wrap.

The invention will be better understood by referring to the following description illustrated by the appended drawing, in which:
  • FIG. 1 represents in cross section a bag made according to the invention, and
  • FIG. 2 schematically illustrates the method according to the invention.

In this drawing, there are shown in 1 and 2 the two polyethylene sheets intended to constitute the double walls of a bag C, arriving in parallel with an extrusion head (not shown). These two sheets are progressively folded along their longitudinal axis XX ', so as to form a flat product P, which is then subjected at equal longitudinal intervals to a weld-cut, shown diagrammatically by S, giving rise to blanks E of bags. , double wall continuous, 1-2. Between the sheets 1 and 2, films 3 are then inserted bearing bubbles or blisters and occupying the entire space between the sheets 1 and 2. Finally, on the outer edges of the blanks E, strips 5 are welded, comprising handles 6. This welding has a multiple role: to stiffen the two edges of the bags, to immobilize the edge of the films 3-4 to prevent them from sliding at the bottom of the space between the sheets 1-2, and to ensure, by systems with snaps 7-8, closing the top of the bags.

The final product C, obtained at the end of the operation, conforms to that illustrated in section on a larger scale in FIG. 1. The bag has a continuous double wall, the two faces of which are kept at constant distance by air bubbles 4, themselves providing thermal insulation, without affecting the flexibility of this wall, provided by the thinness of the film 3.

Claims (1)

  1. A method for the manufacture of insulating bags of the double walled type comprising a pair of sheets (1, 2) of polyethylene separated by a thin flexible film (3) which has regularly distributed bubbles (4) of constant thickness on one side, characterised in that it consists of simultaneously and continuously extruding two sheets (1, 2) of polyethylene, folding these two sheets along the centre, simultaneously welding and cutting the product formed by these two sheets when so folded at regular longitudinal intervals (S) in order to form the rough shapes (E) for bags, inserting the bubble film (4) between the two sheets (1, 2), and finally welding reinforcing strips (5) incorporating handles (6) onto the outer edges of this rough shape, this weld at the same time immobilising the corresponding edges of the bubble film.
