The present invention is in the field of home amenities and it relates more specifically to improvements to a screen, or screen, intended to cooperate with a bathtub to form a shower cubicle.

Such a screen has been described in a patent application FR-A-2 530 939 (Ateliers de la Motte) and it is recalled that the essential characteristic of the invention described in this application consists of the general means making it possible to vertically translate the panel. around its axis of articulation to an upright fixed to the wall up to a height bringing it above the taps of the bathtub, and making it possible to pivot the panel to bring it directly above the taps.

There are also known from patent application FR-A-2,563,098 (Ateliers de la Motte) improvements to the above invention, improvements mainly aimed at lowering the cost of manufacturing such panels.

The technological background concerning certain organs of the aforementioned inventions, namely articulation organs and weight compensation organs, has been described in the following publications: for the first organs, patent FR-A-2,322,247 (SORINE), DE-A-1.659.607 (BRUNE), GB-A-945 572 (EDUCATIONAL SUPPLY) and CA-A-619 269 (HICKS), for the latter a patent US-A-3.955.239 (GROSSMAN).

The purpose of the present invention is to provide a functional organization of such a hinged and pivotable panel, based on a profile whose shape allows this organization to be considerably rationalized.

According to the present invention a bathroom panel of the kind intended to be mounted above the edge of a bathtub in order to be able in particular to use the bathtub as a shower cabin, said panel being able to pivot about a vertical axis in order to be folded down against the wall, and slide along this axis to be placed above a tap which is generally provided in baths, said panel further comprising weight compensating means intended to approximately compensate for its weight, the panel can also be mounted on the rim of a shower cubicle receiver, said panel which can consist of elementary panels which can slide or pivot one on the other, each panel consisting of a profiled frame and a "window" surrounded and supported by the frame, the articulation of the panel on an upright fixed to the wall being of the type in which a male section forming a double hinge is engaged by each of its hinges in grooves in the frame and the upright, is generally characterized by that the substantially rectangular overall cross section of said profile comprises a circular recess open on an angle of the profile, and delimited by u n crown section, a so-called lateral recess opened by a passage on a first short side of the rectangle adjacent to the circular recess, an end recess open on the second small side of the rectangle, approximately towards the middle of said short side, a central recess bounded by the crown sector, by a bottom wall of said lateral recess, said wall comprising a C-shaped open cell in the direction of said central recess, by the two large rectangle sides, and by a cross member comprising two open cells on said end recess.

The advantage of this form of profile is understandable with regard to parts or accessory provisions which will be described below and which will be seen below how they allow the functional organization of the panel.

Thus and according to the invention, a corner connecting piece of the frames, of parallelepidic shape has for first dimension the length of said long side of the profile and for second dimension the length of said small side of profile; said part has four countersunk holes for the passage of screws whose axes correspond to the axes of the cells, said holes opening on two opposite faces, the screws being intended to be screwed into said cells, said part further comprises on two of its faces a stud intended to bear against the bottom wall and a centering relief intended to be interposed between said long sides of the profile.

Still according to the present invention, a part, called a slide, of generally elongated parallelepiped shape has along the two long sides of a large face, two cylindrical parts intended to be housed each in a groove of the profile, one being sliding in said groove, the other being fixed thereto; two slides are mounted on at least the upper sections of two adjacent frames, one of the slides being fixed relative to a frame and sliding relative to the other, and vice versa; it follows that the frames can slide one over the other; it will be noted that advantageously slides are similarly arranged on the lower profiles of the frames.

The subject of the invention is also a profiled joint with a hollow triangular section and split at one of the triangle vertices, said joint being intended to pinch one of the edges of the opening of said end recess, while it is supported by its side opposite the slot, against a window passing through said opening; two of the triangle sides are extended while the side opposite the slot is slightly curved inward; the joint therefore has a roughly F section.

The subject of the invention is also a section with a section constricted at its center, intended to be pinched between the edges opposite the passage of the lateral recess, at least along the lower sections of the frames brought to rest on the edge of the bathtub.

According to a detail of the functional organization of the panel, the weight compensating mechanism is disposed in the central recess of a said profile fixed to the wall while flexible snap-in means are disposed on said fixed profile, said latching means being intended to maintain the panels in its high and low positions while allowing a slight manual support on the panels retracts said means and authorizes the descent and the rise of the panels up to their low position.

Advantageously, said compensating mechanism comprises a tubular drive member and a tubular extension with square end caps, a lumen formed in the wall of the groove along a plane joining the axis of the groove to the axis of the recess. central on the other hand, said light having a length greater than the height of the fitting relative to the rim of the bathtub, and being intended for the passage of a stud secured to the extension, a notch being formed in the hinge housed in the groove of said fixed amount, said notch being intended to accommodate the protruding head of the stud, whereby the hinge is integral with the extension in translation, but free in rotation relative to the latter.

Advantageously, said flexible snap-fastening means comprise an elastic piece that can be accommodated in said end recess of the profile forming an upright by cutting into the parts delimiting said recess, said elastic piece comprising two bosses intended to interfere, through two orifices made in the transverse wall, in the path of the lower end piece of the extension, said bosses retracting during the slightly forced passage of the end piece but not retracting under the apparent weight of the panel.

In fig.1, a profile 10 of extruded aluminum for example, has a substantially rectangular overall cross section defined by the faces 11,12,13,14 of said profile; the section comprises a circular recess 15 open on an angle of the profile, and delimited by a crown sector, a recess 16 called lateral opened by a passage 17 on a first small side 13 of rectangle adjacent to the circular recess, a recess 25 open end 24 on the second short side 14 of the rectangle, towards approximately the middle of said short side, a central recess 19 closed limited by the crown sector, by a bottom wall (20) of said lateral recess, said wall comprising a cell 21 in C open in the direction of said central recess, by the two long sides 11, 12 of rectangle, and by a cross-member 23 comprising two cells 22 open on said end recess.

2 and 3, a connecting piece 25 of generally parallelepipedal shape has for its first dimension L1 the length of a said large side 11, 12 of section of the large profile and for the second dimension L2 the length of a said small side 13.14; it has four countersunk holes such as 26 in locations corresponding to that of the cells 21, 22; it further comprises on a small face a lug 27 intended to be embedded in the central recess 19 and to bear against the raised parts of the bottom wall 20, and on one of its large faces a relief of centering 28 intended to be interposed also between the long sides 11, 12 of the profile. In this embodiment of the screw passages 29 allow the introduction of screws 29ʹ which shoulder on the short side 14 of the profile, on either side of the opening 24, and which mesh in the cells 22.

In fig.4, a slider 30 has a generally parallelepiped shape having along the two long sides of a large face two cylindrical parts 31,32 each housed in the groove 15 of a profile forming a horizontal edge of a frame of sign ; one of the cylindrical parts is glued, or otherwise blocked, in the groove where it is housed while the other is free to circulate there; two slides 30,30ʹ (fig.10) are mounted on the upper profiles of two adjacent frames 6,6ʹ; the slider 30 is fixed in the groove of the panel 6 while the slider 30ʹ is fixed in the groove 15 of the panel 6ʹ, each of which can slide in the groove of the other panel; in the overlapping position, the slider 30ʹ abuts against the connecting piece 25. A similar arrangement of sliders can be provided at the bottom of the panels.

Note also in fig.4 the presence of profiled seals 35 pinching one of the edges of the opening 24 of the recess 25 while it is supported by its side opposite to its slot, against the glass 7 which penetrates itself into said opening. Box 4a, on a larger scale, illustrates the section of the profile which appears as a hollow triangular section split at one of the triangle vertices and of which two of the triangle sides are extended while that of them which is opposite at the slot is slightly rounded inside, and tapered at its end. This seal 35 is introduced, thanks to its tapered side in the slots 24 after the panes have been mounted in the frames.

In fig.6, a profiled seal 40 of elastic material is pinched between the edges opposite the passage 17 of the lateral recess 16 of a lower frame profile; the seal 40 has a section throttled at its center comprising on either side of the throttle a solid part 38 and a tubular part with thin wall 39; in the position shown in fig.10 the tubular part of the seal is crushed against the rim 3 of the bathtub.

In Fig. 5, we have illustrated by cutting a horizontal plane the way in which the panels are articulated against an upright fixed to the wall. Y appears how in a known manner a male section 4 forming double hinges 4ʹ, 4ʺ is engaged by each of its hinges in the grooves 15 of the frame 6 and the amount 8. It will be noted however that in accordance with a characteristic of the invention the adjacent profiles the frame 6 and the upright 8 are arranged symmetrically with respect to a line which may be the axis of symmetry of the male section 4, and not with respect to a plane; the axial symmetry arrangement illustrated in the figure allows the panel to travel both on one side and the other (arrows 50), which avoids inadvertently forcing the hinge and this would be the case if the planar symmetry arrangement had been adopted.

In FIGS. 7 to 10, a weight compensating mechanism comprises a tubular motor member 51, pneumatic cylinder or coil spring for example, and a tubular extension 52 with square end caps with rounded edges 53.53ʹ (see also fig. 5); the extension rests on the upper end of the means 51; it comprises screwed in the middle a stud 55 whose head 57 greatly protrudes; the head 57 is engaged in a longitudinal lumen 54 formed in the crown sector 18 of the profile 8, the lumen 54 extending over a height H1 slightly greater than the height H2 corresponding to the highest point of the taps (9) au- above the rim 3 of the bathtub; in addition, the head is housed in a notch 56 formed in the hinge 4ʺ so as to make the male section 4 integral in translation with the extension 52 when the stud head 57 moves in the lumen 54.

In box 8a there is shown an alternative embodiment of the light 56, a variant according to which the light is included in a room of connection 59, made of plastic for example, which can be inserted between two sections of profile 4 and which has the same section.

In fig.9 more particularly, it appears that the square end pieces 53, 53ʹ cooperate with an elastic piece 60 comprising two rounded bosses such as 65 and 66 (only the boss 65 is clearly visible), to form a flexible latching means ; the bosses 65 and 66 enter the central recess through two orifices 63, 64 made in the cross-member 23 (fig. 7) so as to interfere in the path of the end pieces, lower end piece 53ʹ in the case of figure. The part 60 is housed in the end recess 25 thanks to a cutout 61 of length L3 slightly greater than that L4 of the part 60. When the end piece 53ʹ passes either up or down in line with the bosses 65 and 66 , it causes the bending (dashes 60ʹ) of the part 60; in particular if the strength of the compensating mechanism is such that all of the panels retain a slight apparent weight, the latching mechanism will exert sufficient force to keep the panels in the high or low position, but will fade under the force light manual support on the panels.

In fig.10, we find, schematically, the elements of the mechanism of the previous figures; however, there is a second notch 56ʹ symmetrical with the first with respect to the center line 70 of the panel; this second notch will be used to transform a swinging panel to the left of the upright 8, into a swinging panel to the right, which is quite often required by the arrangement of the baths.

In fig.11 a shower cabin door consists of two panels 102 and 103 surrounded by a frame 105 in aluminum profile for example; the panel 102 is articulated to a jamb 106 of a jamb fixed to the wall; a second jamb 114 is constituted by an F-shaped section used to fix a panel 117 said battue against the rear face of which the panel 103 can be applied when the door is closed; the floor of the shower cabin is made up of a receiving tray 115.

Sometimes the reception bin has a width less than that of the cabin; in this case we must build a connection of the tank with the wall, connection generally covered with tiling 119. The function of the battue panel 117 is precisely to allow a prefabricated door to adapt to various widths of the shower cubicles, in a certain width range. Note that the panel 117 is cut at its lower end to be able to adapt to the possible slope of the tiling.

In fig.12, it appears how in known manner the panel 103 is articulated to the panel 102 by a first hinge 120 and the panel 102 to the upright 106 by a hinge 120ʹ it also appears there how the end of the panel 103 comes from apply behind the battue panel 117. Note in this figure the F 114 profile glued to the wall by its back and inserting between its branches the vertical edge of the battue panel.

In Fig.13 the hinge 120, according to the invention, is composed of a male section comprising two parts in a circular ring connected together by a middle part; a part 109 has a section comprising the same elements as those of the male section but also comprises, perpendicular to the intermediate part, a wing 110 with zipper function.

In fig.14 it appears that the part 109 comprises in the extension of its parts with circular section, or in crown, cylindrical tenons 111 which are intended to be forced into the corresponding recesses of the parts in crown section of the profile .

In Figs. 11 to 13 we note that transverse bars 112 with handle functions are fixed on the inner sides of the panels 102 and 103, these bars are used as handles or to arrange objects such as washcloths or towels.

In FIGS. 15 to 17, a screen intended to overcome a shower tray 200 is intended to avoid splashing of water above the two sides of the tray. The screen is made up of two sets of similar panels 201,202 and 203,204; each set is made up of two panels sliding one on the other (202 on 201 and 204 on 203); one of the panels, 201 for example, is fixed firmly to the wall by a U-shaped profile 206; the two assemblies are joined at the junction of the two other panels 202, 203 by a hinge 205; the hinge 205 may include a play allowing it a slight vertical movement (arrow 208); an abutment lug 209 is advantageously disposed at the base of the one panel such as 202 in order to limit the movement of the panels on the surface of the receiver.

In fig.18, a screen for a bathtub or shower tray is made up of several folding panels 302,304, each panel consisting of a profile frame 301 and a window; each of the panels has a width less than the distance between the end of the fitting and the outside edge of the bath 300; the panel 302 is articulated on the wall along its edge 301ʹ.

In all of the figures, profiles serving as a frame for the panels, such as the profiles 10 , 105, 301 and the profiles of the panels 201 to 204, are similar and meet the definition given above for the profile 10 .

Although particular and preferred embodiments of the invention have been described and represented, it should be understood that the scope of the latter is not limited to this form but that it extends to any panel for transform a bathtub into a shower cubicle comprising, taken separately or in combination, the general or special characteristics as claimed.

    - a closed central recess (19) defined by the ring sector, by means of a lower wall (20) of said lateral recess, said wall comprising a C-shaped indentation (21) open in the direction of said central recess, by means of the two large sides (11,12) of a rectangle, and by a crosspiece (23) comprising two indentations (22) open on said end recess ;
  2. The panel as claimed in claim 1, wherein a connection piece (25) from an angle of the frames, having a parallelepipedal shape, has as its first dimension (L1) the length of said large side (11,12) of the profile and for second dimension (L2) the length of said small side (13,14) of the profile,
       said piece comprising four countersunk holes (26) for the passage of screws whose axes correspond to the axes of the indentations (21,22), said holes debouching on two opposite faces, the screws being intended to be screwed into said indentations,
       said piece comprising, moreover, on one small face a stub (27) intended to rest against the lower wall (20), and on one of its large faces a raised centering part (28) intended to be placed between said large sides of the profile ;
  3. The panel as claimed in claim 1, wherein at least one piece, referred to as a sliding block (30), having a generally parallelepipedal elongated shape, comprises, along the two large sides of a large face, two cylindrical parts (31,32) each intended to be accomodated in a groove (15) of the profile, one being able to slide in said groove, the other being fixed therein ;
  4. The panel as claimed in claim 3, wherein two sliding blocks (30,30') are mounted on at least the upper profiles of two adjacent frames (6',6"), one of the sliding blocks being fixed with respect to one frame and able to slide with respect to the other, and vice versa, the result thereof being that the frames can slide over one another ;
  5. The panel as claimed in claim 1, wherein a profile joint (35) has hollow triangular section which is slit at one of the angles of the triangle, said joint being intended to pinch one of the edges of the opening (24) of said end recess (25), while it rests with its side which is opposite the slit against a pane (7) passing through said opening (24) (Fig.4,5) ;
  6. The panel as claimed in claim 1, wherein a profile joint (40), made of a resilient material and having a narrowed section at its center, comprises on either side of the narrowing a full part (38) and a thin-walled tubular part (39), intended to be pinched between the edges facing the passage (17) of the lateral recess (16), at least along the lower profiles of the frames brought to rest on the edge of the bathtub (Fig.6) ;
  7. The panel as claimed in claim 1, wherein said weight-compensating mechanism (41,42) is arranged in the central recess of a so-called profile (8) fixed to the wall, and
       in that flexible catching means are arranged on said fixed profile, said catching means being intended to hold the panels in a raised position (above the level of the tap fittings) while still enabling a slight manual pressure on the panels to retract said means and control the descent of the panels to their lower position ;
  8. The panel as claimed in claim 7, whrerein said compensating mechanism comprises a tubuliform activating member (51) and a tubular extension (52) with square end connectors (53,53'), a slot (54) provided in the wall of the groove (15) along a plane joining the axis of the groove to the axis of the central recess on the other hand, said slot having a length (H1) greater than the height (H2) of the tap fittings with respect to the edge of the bathtub and being intended for the passage of a pin (55), which is an integral part of the extension, a notch (56) being arranged in the pin (4") accomodated in the groove of said fixed mounting (8), said notch being intended to accomodate the protruding head (57) of the pin, as a result of which the pin is an integral part of the extension in translation but is free in rotation with respect to the latter ;
  9. The panel as claimed in claim 8, whrerein said flexible catching means comprise a resilient piece (60) which may be accomodated in said end recess (25) of the profile forming a mounting by virtue of a cutout (61) in the parts defining said recess, said resilient piece comprising two projections (65,66) intended to interfere, by means of two orifices (63,64) arranged in the cross-piece (23) wall, in the path of the lower connector (53') of the extension, said projections retracting during the slightly forced passage of the connector but not retracting under the apparent weight of the panel.
