Abstract

Cartons of cigarettes are packages containing a large number (e.g. ten) of packs (30) of cigarettes. By a special design of these cartons of cigarettes or of a common blank (93), the carton of cigarettes can be divided into partial packs (semi-cartons 34, 35), each of these partial packs forming an easy-to-handle and saleable unit just like the complete carton of cigarettes. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a packaging for holding a plurality of individual objects, in particular cigarette packs, according to the preamble of claim 1. Furthermore, the invention relates to a method for producing such a packaging according to the preamble of claim 6.

From US-A-30 92 301 a package consisting of coherent partial packs is already known, which is made from foldable cardboard and is used for filling cigarettes or the like. The partial packs are formed from a common blank in such a way that after they have been finished they are connected to adjacent edges on a connecting line. After filling and closing the partial packs through their plug-in flap lids, they can be divided on a connecting line if necessary, so that two (or more) smaller containers are created from a larger container.

Similarly divisible packaging, but in different sizes and for different filling articles, are also known from US-A-32 41 738.

When packaging cigarettes, it is customary to form larger packaging units, namely cigarette sticks, from a plurality of cigarette packs combined. Usually ten packs of cigarettes are combined to form such a large pack, which is encased in a paper or cardboard blank. The peculiarity now consists in the fact that the packaging (cigarette stick) can be divided up while maintaining partial packs that can be handled independently, so that a smaller unit, in particular a "half stick", can be distributed, exhibited or sold.

The known packaging can be divided for this purpose as well, but the use of these partial containers made of cardboard has the disadvantage that two independent packages are necessary when arranging cigarette packs that are finished per se. The leads to a considerable, sometimes unnecessary packaging effort.

Proceeding from this, the object of the invention is to further develop packagings of the type mentioned at the outset in such a way that they can be easily produced with little effort and at the same time are inexpensive to handle, and also to provide a method for producing, in particular for closing such packs.

To achieve this object, the packaging and a method for producing the same have the characterizing features of claims 1 and 6.

The packaging (cigarette stick) according to the invention is basically constructed in a conventional manner in terms of its external appearance, that is to say it has a usually cuboid shape, a customary number of preferably ten cigarette packs being enveloped by a cut. This simple (outer) wrapping from a single, one-piece blank makes the packaging easy to manufacture. In addition, the closure designed according to the invention is particularly suitable for a frequently necessary provisional closing position of the cigarette rod, which is particularly necessary when the individual cigarette packs in the area of their end faces after the (extensive) completion of the cigarette rods with a tax number or an imprint must be provided, as is necessary, for example, due to special tax regulations in the USA.

By integrating tabs in the surface of the top walls of the blank, the tabs can be opened without any significant additional material form wall. The packaging can thus be produced particularly economically. In addition, the tabs allow the partial packs to be opened and closed almost any number of times, even after the final closure. At the same time, according to a further proposal of the invention, the plug-in tabs form material weaknesses in the region of a dividing line at the edges of the longitudinal side walls of both partial packs. As a result, these can be separated (manually) in a simple manner by collapsing the partial packs onto one another and by breaking the blank in the region of this dividing line, with mutually facing longitudinal side surfaces being supported against one another.

Two exemplary embodiments of the packaging according to the invention and the method for producing the same are explained in more detail below with reference to the drawings.

The exemplary embodiments of the invention shown in the drawings relate to the packaging of cigarettes. The aim is to accommodate several individual cigarette packs 30 in a larger package, a cigarette rod. In the exemplary embodiments shown, a total of ten cigarette packs 30 are combined to form a cigarette rod. The cigarette packs 30 are grouped into two pack rows 31 and 32 in such a way that the cigarette packs 30 are oriented with their longitudinal extension transverse to the longitudinal direction of the cigarette rod. The cigarette packs 30 are arranged lying flat within the pack rows 31, 32.

The group of a total of ten cigarette packs 30 is encased by a common blank 43 or 93 (FIGS. 4 and 10). This can consist of paper, cardboard or a suitable film or a laminate product.

Diese Halbstangen 34, 35 sind bei dem Ausführungsbeispiel der Fig. 1 bis 7 vollständig ringsherum eingehüllt mit Deckwandungen 36, 37, Längsseitenwandungen 38, 83 und 84 sowie Stirnwandungen 40 und 41.Furthermore, the wrapping is designed in such a way that each row of packs 31, 32 is given a certain degree of independence, such that the separation or division of the Packing partial packs are created, in the present case half-bars 34 and 35, which accordingly each contain a row of packs 31 or 32 (five packs of cigarettes 30). In the exemplary embodiment of FIGS. 1 to 7, these half-bars 34, 35 are completely encased with cover walls 36, 37, longitudinal side walls 38, 83 and 84 and end walls 40 and 41.

The common, one-piece blank 93 (FIG. 4) is placed around the two rows of packs 31, 32 in such a way that the connected top walls 36 of the two half-bars 34 and 35 lie one on top of the other during the complete packaging (FIGS. 1, 5 and 6), and in the area of a division level 42 for the packaging. The connection of the two top walls 36 is detachable or severable. For this reason, a cutting field 98 forming the two top walls 36 is provided with a dividing line 94 in the center. The thus formed cutting field 98 of the blank 93 connects the two half rods 34 and 35 to one another, the dividing line 94 extending centrally in the region of a side face 47 of the complete packaging formed by the two longitudinal side walls 83 and 84.

The complete cigarette rod (FIG. 1) is formed in the present case in that the half-rods 34 and 35 are connected to one another not only in the region of the dividing line 94 of the common blank 93, but also by further releasable connections — in the present case several punctiform glue points 48, which are arranged on the side of the half-rods 34, 35 remote from the dividing line 44 on the facing top walls 36 of the two half-rods 34, 35. These releasable connections result in a stable packaging (cigarette stick) that can be traded as a unit essentially with the conventional appearance (Fig. 1). Alternatively, it is possible to divide the cigarette rod to form the half-rods 34, 35. In the exemplary embodiment discussed here, the half-rods 34, 35 must first be pivoted into a common plane by loosening the glue points 48 (FIG. 2). Now the blank 93 is to be cut in the area of the dividing line 94. In the present case, a special breaking effect is used (Fig. 2). The two half-rods 34, 35 are supported with the mutually facing longitudinal side walls 83 and 84 against each other, in particular with support edges 94, 50 (FIG. 7) of the two half-rods 34, 35 which are located away from the dividing line 94, and the (manually carried out) breaking effect thereof Lighten support edges 49, 50.

The special feature of this exemplary embodiment is that the longitudinal side walls 83 and 84 of the two half-rods 34, 35 which form the common side surface 47 of the cigarette rod are of a special design. Each of these is assigned a plug-in tab 85, 86. The plug-in tabs 85, 85 lie at a distance from one another over the length of the longitudinal side walls 83, 84, that is to say off-center. They only become effective or are formed when the cigarette rod (FIG. 1) is divided into the partial packs (half-rods 34, 35). The plug-in tabs 85, 86 then become free and can also be folded over into the plane of the longitudinal side walls 83 and 84 a delimited insertion tongue 87 are inserted into a holding slot 88 arranged at a suitable point on the longitudinal side wall 83 or.

The plug-in tabs 85, 86 are formed by parts of the facing and detachably connected top walls 89, 90 of the partial packs (half rods 34, 35). For this purpose they are plug-in tabs 85 and 86 are each formed by corresponding punchings 91 and 92 in the cutting field 93 for the top walls 89 and 90. The plug-in tabs 85 and 86 thus also act as part of the dividing line 94, which is formed between the cover walls 89 and 90 in the manner already described. Residual connections 95 are formed here in the dividing line 94, that is to say in the region between the plug-in tabs 85 and 86.

In the production of the present packaging (cigarette sticks) from a blank 93 according to FIG. 4, for example, the procedure can be such that the blank 93 is separated from a continuous web and fixed in an upright position on a lower stop. The two pack series 31 and 32 are fed in the horizontal plane. The pack rows 31 and 32 are kept apart by an intermediate guide. The blank 93 is pre-folded approximately V-shaped by a folding sword and by plate-shaped counterholders arranged above and below the rows of packs 31, 32, the fold 93 lying in the region of the dividing line 94. In the further course, the part of the blank 93 which forms the top walls 36 is folded between the rows of packs 31, 32 with the corresponding withdrawal of the intermediate guide. The rows of cigarettes are supported laterally by counterholders. At the same time, the longitudinal side walls 38 are pre-folded in the blank 93 by further folding members, not shown in detail, so that the rows of packs 31, 32 are covered at the top and bottom by finally horizontally directed blank parts.

Letztere sind jeweils mit einem Leimpunkt 96 versehen, der eine (lösbare) Verbindung zwischen den Längsseitenwandungen 83, 84 und den zugeordneten Stecklaschen 85, 86 bildet.4, the present exemplary embodiment is used in such a way that the fully punched-out tabs 87 project transversely to the Cover walls 89 and 90 are aligned, that is to say in extension of the same, if they are folded against one another by folding through 180 ° between the rows of packs 31, 32 (FIG. 5). The plug-in tabs 85, 86 accordingly extend transversely to the common side surface 47 of the packaging. The plug-in tabs 85, 86 are then folded over against the end faces 51 of the cigarette packs 30. Against this in turn, the longitudinal side walls 83 and 84 which initially protrude above and below (FIG. 5) are then folded. The latter are each provided with a glue point 96, which forms a (detachable) connection between the longitudinal side walls 83, 84 and the associated plug-in tabs 85, 86.

Sodann erfolgt in der beschriebenen Weise die Durchtrennung im Bereich der Trennlinie 94 unter Durchteilung der Restverbindungen 95.When the cigarette rod designed in this way is divided, the glue points 48 are first released and the half-rods 34, 35 are pivoted into a common plane. The separation in the region of the dividing line 94 then takes place in the manner described, with the remaining connections 95 being divided.

For the use of each partial pack (half-bar 34, 35), the glue points 96 can now be released, so that the connection between the longitudinal side walls 83, 84 and the associated plug-in tabs 85, 86 is eliminated. The latter can now be inserted with the tongue 87 into the holding slot 88 of the longitudinal side wall 83, 84, so that a reclosable half-bar 34, 35 is created.

The packaging according to FIGS. 8 to 10 is particularly suitable for applications in which measures, in particular tax law markings, are subsequently carried out on the front sides of the cigarette packs 30. The longitudinal side walls 83 and 84 adjacent to the dividing line 44 are absent in this embodiment, so that in the area of this Long sides of both half rods 34 and 45 are open. The end faces of the cigarette packs 30 are exposed here.

To fix the cigarette packs 30 in the open half-rods 34, 35, each cigarette pack 30 is detachably connected to one of the walls of the half-rods 34, 35, in particular to the two top walls 36, 37. In the present case, a glue point 97 is applied to each each top wall for each cigarette pack 30 for fixation in the half-rod 34, 35 provided.
