Definitions

  • the invention relates to a device for cutting off essentially cylindrical elements with a handle body having a slit-shaped cavity, a knife carried by a blade holder being pivotable into the cavity, the blade holder carrying a bore outside the blade contour, which is anchored in the handle body by a pivot bolt is reached and the handle in the swivel range of the knife blade carries a transverse opening for receiving the element to be cut.
  • Such cutting devices are represented, for example, by the well-known cigar cutter, the blade usually being a razor blade (US Pat. No. 2,523,575).
  • the known device may work just functionally due to the loose material.
  • the cutter is completely unsuitable for harder materials, such as plastic pipes or rods, due to the poor stability of the razor blade, which is already weakened by its central recess.
  • sawing off the material in question leads to a rough end surface and thus sealing difficulties, while pinching off is generally accompanied by disadvantageous deformation of the profile piece.
  • the invention has for its object to design the device of the type mentioned in such a way that profile bars or tubular elements can be separated smoothly by one operation.
  • the blade holder according to the preamble of claim 1 has a substantially U-shaped configuration in its plane, the lateral legs forming the support surfaces for the knife and the support surfaces recessed into the blade holder and of a substantially U-shaped Cover is overlapped. It is now possible to use a stronger knife blade which is free of a central opening and which is given stable guidance by the bearing surfaces on the lateral legs of the blade holder. The space between the legs of the blade holder provides a sufficiently large free cutting edge for the knife for the cutting process.
  • the bearing surfaces for the knife are recessed in the blade holder and overlapped by a cover, the knife is clamped between the blade holder and the cover, so that secure guidance is ensured. Because the pivot point of the knife holder with inserted knife blade and when the cover is in place, even in the swung-open state, at least at the end inside the gap-shaped cavity of the handle body, the cover is prevented from being loosened and the blade is inadvertently released.
  • the blade holder preferably has recesses which match the holding openings provided in the end region of the knife and which are penetrated by projections of the cover. This ensures a form-fitting engagement between the blade holder, blade and cover, which ensures stabilization of the overall structure and good blade guidance.
  • the bore of the blade holder for receiving the swivel pin is connected via a radial slot to the periphery of the holder, through which the knife holder can be plugged onto the swivel pin.
  • the Slot runs obliquely to the longitudinal axis of the blade holder, so that there is no fear of the holder slipping while the device is in use.
  • the bore preferably represents a latching opening for the pivot pin at the end of the slot.
  • the axis of the transverse opening forms an angle of essentially 90 ° with the surface of the handle.
  • the transverse opening can also consist of two superimposed, essentially cylindrical penetrations of the handle, the axes of which intersect approximately in the knife plane and form an angle with one another of approximately 45 °. It is thus possible to use the same device to either produce a cut surface perpendicular to the longitudinal central axis of the object, or also to make an oblique cut, as can be the case, for example, with cartridge sleeves for applying an adhesive or sealant composition.
  • Fig. 1 shows the cutting device, which is provided in its entirety with the reference numeral 10, in the closed or folded state.
  • the handle body 11 which is designed as a flat block, is tapered in the middle in order to achieve a more handy grip.
  • the ends and edges are rounded.
  • the blade holder 12 which is located within the handle 11, is only indicated by dashed lines.
  • the pivot pin 13 extends through both Shells of the handle body 11 and ends approximately with the outer surface.
  • a transverse opening 14 In the central region of the handle body 11 there is a transverse opening 14, the shape and configuration of which will be explained in more detail below with reference to FIG. 3.
  • a crescent-shaped recess 15 is provided, in which the back of the blade holder 12 is visible.
  • a groove 16 provided in this area of the blade holder 12 permits the engagement of a fingernail or thumb nail to pivot out the blade holder 12.
  • the slit-shaped cavity 17 for accommodating the blade holder 12, which is to be explained later and is arranged within the handle 11, is likewise only indicated in FIG. 1 by a dashed line.
  • the blade holder 12 is essentially U-shaped, the two legs each carrying a recess 20 which form a contact surface for the end regions of the knife blade 18 .
  • Bores 21 are provided in the area of these contact surfaces and can be made to coincide with corresponding bores 22 in the end edge areas of the knife blade 18.
  • the cover 23 is also essentially U-shaped, a corresponding recess being provided for the yoke-like transition part between the legs in the blade holder 12.
  • the cover 23 carries two molded pins 24 which protrude into the plane of the drawing in FIG. 2 and, in the assembled state, dig through the bores 22 of the knife blade 18 and the bores 21 of the blade holder 12 in order to close the blade 18 on the blade holder 12 fix.
  • the blade holder 12 is essentially semicircular and provided with a pivot bore 25 in the center.
  • a radial slot 26 extends from the bore 25, which extends obliquely to the longitudinal center axis of the blade holder 12 and has a width which is somewhat less than the diameter of the bore 25.
  • the bore 25 thus represents a latching opening for the pivot pin 13 already described in connection with FIG. 1.
  • the transverse bore extending through the handle body 11 is set 14 composed of two essentially cylindrical penetrations, the axes A and B of which intersect in the plane of the knife blade 18.
  • the two axes A and B enclose an angle ⁇ which is approximately 45 °.
  • the element to be cut can accordingly be introduced into the transverse opening 14 from different directions, so that after cutting through there is a correspondingly inclined cutting surface.
  • the two switches of the handle body 11 each have an inwardly directed bead 27 on the circumference of the transverse opening 14, which bears against the free area of the knife blade 18 and represents a guide during the cutting process.
  • the blade holder 12 or in the clamping areas of the blade holder 12 together with the knife blade 18 and the cover 19 essentially fill the gap-shaped cavity 17. Accordingly, the inner surfaces of the gap-shaped cavity 17 form a guide for the blade holder 12 within the handle 11 and at the same time hold the cover 23 firmly on the blade holder 12, so that the knife blade is securely fixed as long as the latching opening 25 engages with the pivot pin 13 is located.
  • the disassembly of the entire blade holder 12 for the purpose of replacing the knife blade 18 proceeds, as mentioned above, as follows: the blade holder 12 is pivoted out in the direction x and in Longitudinal direction y of the slot 26 is pulled out of the locking position with the pivot pin 13.
  • the blade holder 12 is assembled in a very simple manner as follows: the inner region of the blade holder 12 is inserted into the gap-shaped cavity 17 in such a way that the outer slot opening 30 engages around the pivot pin 13. Then pressure is continuously exerted on the upper narrow side in the pivoting direction z.
  • the convex edge 28 of the free end face of the knife holder 12 slides at a pitch 32 outside an inner straight edge 29 of the handle body 11 which extends transversely to the longitudinal axis L of the handle 11.
  • the radius describing the convex edge 28 increases in the course of the pivoting movement in the direction z and such Measure from R1 to R2 that the bore 25 is inevitably moved into its locking position with the pivot pin 13.
  • the radius R3 (distance of the pitch point 32 to the pivot pin 13) is larger by a slight movement than the largest radius R2.
  • the slot 26 extends from its mouth to the latching bore 25 in a slightly wedge-shaped manner, which additionally facilitates the assembly and disassembly of the blade holder 12.
