Description

I.The present invention relates to a device for cleaning the lid set of a revolving card, according to the preamble of claim I.

An arrangement for cleaning the card cover is known from Swiss Patent No. 501 069, in which the wires of a cleaning comb absorb fibers and impurities during their forward pivoting movement. These come to rest on the tips of the card cover with the backward swiveling movement. They are sucked in by a suction funnel that vibrates with the comb either during its reverse stroke or at the next forward stroke.

The suction funnel, which extends over the entire width of the cover set, requires a very high suction power for the removal of the cover plaster, so that this arrangement proves to be uneconomical. According to the present invention, this disadvantage should be avoided. This has the features listed in the characterizing part of claim I.

The invention will now be explained in more detail with reference to various embodiments and the figures of the drawing. In the latter is
  • Fig. I is a schematic representation of the device according to the invention seen from the side and are the
  • 2, 3 and 4 to illustrate the mode of operation representations.

Fig. I shows part of a reel II of a card, which is rotatable in the direction of arrow 12 and equipped with a clothing 13. The covers 14, each of which is also provided with a set 15, form a set of covers in their entirety. They can be moved in the direction of arrow 16.

A brush 17 which extends over the entire length of the lid 14, i.e. Extending over the entire width of the cover set and having approximately the same length as the cover 14 can be pivoted about an axis 19 by means of a drive 18. With regard to the direction of movement indicated by the arrow 16, there is a suction device 20 behind the brush 17. It comprises a suction nozzle 21 and a hose 22 connected to it for discharging the suction air. It also includes a rail 23 along which the nozzle 21 extends in the direction perpendicular to the direction of movement (16) of the cover, i.e. perpendicular to the plane of the drawing, can be moved back and forth and from which it is carried.

When the card is in operation, the reel 12 rotates at a relatively high speed in the direction shown by the arrow 12. In contrast, the lids 14 of the lid set move relatively slowly in the direction of the arrow 16 (e.g. 10 cm per minute). As a result of the interaction of the sets 13 and 15, a carding effect of the textile fibers brought up on the drum set 13 results. Short fibers, foreign bodies, nits and the like are taken away from the clothing 15 of the cover 14. It is therefore filled with such materials in the intake area.

In order to clean the sets 15 of the covers 14 before they are used again, the brush 17 is caused to pivot by means of the drive 18. The wires 24 of the brush 17 lift the material to be removed from the set 15 and place it on the tips of the set as a cover plaster. The cover plaster moves with the cover set in the direction of arrow 16. When it reaches the area covered by the nozzle 21, it is sucked away from the nozzle 21. It can thus be seen that in order to completely remove the cover plaster, every point on the surface of the cover set must be vacuumed off at least once.

For a closer look at this fact, reference is made to FIGS. 2, 3 and 4. These show a view of the surface of the lid set in the direction of arrow 25 of FIG. I, the individual lids 14 not being shown, but only the lateral boundaries or the sides 26 of the lid set being drawn. The direction of the movement of the cover or the set of covers is again indicated by the arrows 16. The speed of the movement of the cover 14 is assumed to be the same size in all of the FIGS. 2, 3 and 4. Furthermore, each of FIGS. 2, 3 and 4 shows the rail 23 in a very schematic manner. The three shown nozzles 27, 28 and 29 carried by the rails 23 have nozzle openings of rectangular cross section and different lengths. The nozzle 27 is the shortest and the nozzle 29 is the longest thereof. The speed at which the nozzles move perpendicular to the length of the cover set, that is to say to the sides 26, is the same in all three figures. It can also be seen from the latter that the longitudinal extension of the rectangularly shaped nozzle openings is parallel to the direction of movement of the cover set shown by arrows 16.

For explanation and illustration it is assumed that at the beginning of this consideration, according to each of the three figures, the nozzles were in position 30. During the first stroke movement of each of the nozzles from position 30 across the width of the lid set, the latter performs a feed so that the nozzle is in position 31 at the end of its stroke movement. The area delimited by the distances a1, a2 was covered in all the figures. After the next stroke, that is to say after the double stroke has ended, the nozzles 27, 28 and 29 are in the positions 32 and have additionally covered the area lying between the lines b1, b2. After the double stroke, the feed of the lid or the lid set is the same e.g. the length delimited by the distances al and bl of the right side 26 of the cover set in FIGS.

For the further movements, the areas defined by the distances cl, c2, the distances dl, d2, the distances el, e2, the distances fl, f2 and the distances gl, g2 are also covered, which finally the nozzles 27, 28, 29 have reached in the positions shown. The lines a, c, e and g were dashed and the lines b, d, f drawn in solid lines. This was only for the purpose of improving clarity.

It can be seen from FIG. 2 that there are triangular surfaces on the surface of the cover set which are not covered by the nozzle 27. The uppermost of these triangles, 33, is delimited by the right side 26 in FIG. 2 and the distances a2 and bl. The second uppermost triangle 34 is delimited by the left side 26 in FIG. 2 and the distances b2 and cl, the third uppermost triangle 35 by the right side 26 and the distances c2, dl etc.

In FIG. 3, the length of the nozzle opening is equal to the length of the cover set advance during a double stroke of the nozzle 28. It can be seen from FIG. 3 that, under these circumstances, triangular surfaces which have not been covered by the nozzle 28 have disappeared. If, as shown in FIG. 4, the nozzle 29 is longer than the length of the cover set advance during a double stroke of the nozzle, uncoated areas are certainly avoided.

It can thus be seen that there is a sweep over each point of the lid set surface to be cleaned, provided that the length of the nozzle opening is at least equal to or greater than the lid set advance during a double stroke movement of the nozzle. It must be taken into account that, strictly speaking, it is not the size of the nozzle opening, but the "area of the suction effect of the nozzle" that is the decisive dimension. This is to be taken into account, in particular for the scope of claim 6.

If you want to get a repeated sweep of each point on the cover set surface, this can be done by a relatively long nozzle opening in the direction of arrow 16 and by mutual coordination of the cover set feed and the number of nozzle strokes. For a given lid set feed rate, the nozzle lift speed, the energy consumption of the nozzles and the risk of them clogging must be weighed against each other. It is advantageous if the given circumstances allow a multiple sweep of each point of the cover set through the nozzle, it being possible to sweep up to five times.

A very good method of working was obtained with an arrangement with a lid speed of approx. 10 cm per minute and 5 to 10 double strokes of the nozzle per minute.

As already mentioned, the nozzle opening is advantageously of rectangular shape. However, an elliptical shape can also be considered. The longitudinal extension of the nozzle opening is parallel to the direction of movement of the cover 14 shown by arrow 16. An advantageous embodiment of a rectangular nozzle opening consists in that the ratio of the length of the nozzle opening to its width has a value between 3 and 7. In one embodiment, which gave very good results, the rectangular opening was 12 cm long and 2.5 cm wide.

With regard to the possibility of clogging of the nozzle, it can be seen that this risk is substantially reduced if the nozzle is provided on its front part with respect to the direction of movement of the cover 14 with a bevel which is directed upwards towards the foremost end of the nozzle, ie away from the lid set. This bevel is designated 36 in FIG. 1. A good working method was obtained with a distance of the nozzle opening of approx. 3 mm from the tips of the cover set.
