Definitions
- the invention relates to a cover for paper sheets with a cover spine and front and back cover covers adjoining it on both sides, of which at least the front cover cover consists of a front flap integrally connected to the cover spine and a transparent plastic sheet attached to the inside of the front flap by means of a adhesive layer. as well as a hot-melt adhesive on the inside of the cover for attaching the paper sheets.
- Such a cover is described in DE-PS 25 28 225.
- This cover has a cover spine, which is provided with a SchmeLzk liver strip on the inside.
- a back cover On one long side a back cover is connected by a fold and on the other long side - also by a fold - a front flap.
- a front cover On the inside of the front flap is a front cover made of transparent plastic using a Strips of a pressure sensitive adhesive attached, with an edge at a distance from the hot melt adhesive strip.
- a melt adhesive is to be understood as a adhesive that is solid at room temperature and does not stick, but melts when heat is applied and thereby develops surface adhesion. With the subsequent cooling, the adhesive solidifies again and then causes firm adhesion between the surfaces that it has wetted.
- the temperature at which the melt adhesive softens is also called the activation temperature. Depending on the composition of the hot melt adhesive, the activation temperatures are between 7o and 2oo C.
- a pressure-sensitive adhesive is understood to mean adhesives that - applied to one surface - develop a spontaneous adhesive effect even when lightly pressing on another surface (Ullmann, Encyclopedia of Technical Chemistry, 4th edition, volume 14, pages 236 and 238).
- the transparent plastic sheet is not damaged despite the use of a plastic material that can only be activated at higher temperatures during the above-described binding process, and so cheap material can be used for this that would suffer optically visible damage if the activation temperature were applied directly.
- this is attributed to the fact that a distance is provided between the inner edge of the plastic sheet and the hot melt adhesive strip and that the adhesive adhesive acts as a heat insulation.
- a disadvantage of this solution is that two types of glue have to be kept in stock and processed, namely a melt adhesive and a pressure sensitive adhesive. On the one hand, this complicates storage. On the other hand, the application of the adhesive adhesive and the adhesive bonding of the transparent front cover is very labor-intensive and complicated. After all, the adhesive effect of this adhesive is unsatisfactory.
- the invention is therefore based on the object to find a cover for transparent plastic sheets in a cover of the type mentioned, which is easier to manufacture and has better adhesion.
- the adhesive layer for fastening the plastic sheet or sheets consists of a melt adhesive with an activation temperature which does not cause any permanent, optically visible changes when the respective plastic sheet is placed on the heated adhesive.
- the cover 1 essentially consists of a front cover 2, a cover spine 3 and a back cover 4.
- the front cover 2 is constructed in two parts and consists of a front flap 6 connected to the cover 3 via a longitudinal fold 5 and a transparent plastic sheet 7 fastened to the inside thereof.
- the attachment of the front tab 6 and the plastic sheet 7 is effected by a hot melt adhesive strip 8.
- the back cover 4 is formed in one piece and also connected to the cover 3 via a longitudinal fold 9.
- Front flap 6, back cover 3 and back cover blanket 4 are made of cardboard or the like.
- a hot-melt adhesive strip 10 is likewise applied to the inside of the cover spine 3. It is intended for attaching the paper sheets to the back cover 3.
- the cover 1 is folded in a U-shape on the longitudinal folds 5, 9 and the paper sheets are then placed with their longitudinal edges on the hot-melt adhesive strips 10 between the cover covers 2, 4.
- the cover 1 is then placed on a heating plate, so that the cover back 3 is heated from below. The heat penetrates the cover spine 3 and thus activates the hot-melt adhesive strip 10.
- the cover 1 can be removed from the heating plate. Once the hot-melt adhesive strip 10 has been reached, the binding process is completed.
- the hot-melt adhesive strip 8 for fastening the plastic sheet 7 is applied to the front flap 6 in the same way as the hot-melt adhesive strip 1o, in that the hot-melt adhesive strip 8 placed on it is heated briefly and thereby forms a connection with the front flap 6. This can be done in one operation with the application of the hot-melt adhesive strip 10 within a machine. In a further operation, the hot-melt adhesive strip 8 is then briefly heated again and the plastic sheet 7 is then immediately placed on it. The cold plastic sheet 7 takes the heat out of the hot-melt adhesive strip 8 immediately after the wetting process and solidifies it, so that the cover 1 can be handled without loss of time.
- molten metal is heated to a relatively high temperature, for example 150 ° C. to 180 ° C., so that it is very thin. In this state, it is on the inside of the front tab 6 deleted so that a hot-melt adhesive strip 8 forms there after it is cold.
- the plastic sheet 7 can then be sealed by means of SiegeLbacken after heating the hot melt adhesive strip 8 again, resulting in a very firm connection without visible damage to the plastic sheet 7.
- Ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers which additionally contain hydrocarbon resins, are particularly suitable as hot-melt adhesives.
- an anti-aging agent can be added. According to the activation temperature of this hot melt adhesive is set so that no optically visible changes occur on the plastic sheet 7 at this temperature.

Abstract
