After thorough mixing of the two components, ammonia gas is introduced into the reaction mass with cooling until the polycarboxylic acid has been completely neutralized. The well-ground and sieved component (b) is then added to the stirring mass in portions. After this, the speed of the stirrer is increased somewhat and then the emulsifier (d) is added dropwise with vigorous stirring to the stirring mass. After stirring again, the thickener dispersion is ready for storage and use.
