Definitions
- the present invention relates to a direct heating cathode, in particular a direct heating cathode for power electronic tubes such as triodes, tetrodes or pentodes.
- the direct heating cathodes used in these types of tubes are most often formed by a cylindrical sleeve formed of tungsten wires, whether or not wired, wound in a helix and regularly distributed in two layers inclined respectively in opposite directions with respect to a generator of the cylinder. so as to form a trellis, the wires of the two plies being joined at each crossing by a welding point.
- the two ends of this cylindrical trellis forming the emissive part of the cathode are fixed respectively on two circular metal plates facing each other, connected to the external connections of the electronic tube by refractory metal rods between which is applied a potential difference ensuring setting and maintaining the temperature of the cathode.
- the aim of the present invention is to solve the unsolved problems of the solutions of the prior art by proposing a solution which allows significant expansion of the lattice sleeve of the cathode while retaining the geometric dimensions essential for the electrical performance of the tube. maintaining the centering of the lattice sleeve relative to the axis of the electronic tube.
- the present invention therefore relates to a direct heating cathode for electronic tubes comprising a cylindrical sleeve constituted by a lattice of crossed wires forming the emissive part of the cathode and two plates mounted respectively on the ends of said sleeve characterized in that it comprises at least one flexible metallic element in the form of a bellows fixed between one of the plates and the corresponding end of the cylindrical sleeve.
- the flexible metal element in the form of a bellows can be produced in different ways.
- the bellows-shaped element consists of an annular element, the inner edge of which is welded to the plate and the outer edge of the corresponding end of the sleeve.
- the bellows-shaped element consists of two annular elements welded together by their internal peripheral edges and having a V-shaped sectional section, the external peripheral edge of the plate and the corresponding end of the sleeve being respectively welded to the outer peripheral edges of the two annular elements.
- the surface of the annular elements can be planar or provided with concentric ribs.
- these can be provided on their periphery with radial slots or other similar cutouts.
- the bellows-shaped element is produced by a cylindrical element folded in accordion in its axial direction.
- the reference 1 designates the cylindrical sleeve forming the emissive part of the cathode.
- the sleeve 1 is constituted in a known manner by a lattice of crossed wires in thoriated tungsten.
- the two ends of the sleeve 1 are fixed respectively, as described below, on two circular metal plates 2 and 3.
- the references 4 and 5 respectively denote a rod and a tube used to connect the cathode to the voltage source ensuring , in operation, its heating.
- the plate 2 has a diameter less than that of the plate 3.
- the end 1 ′ of the cylindrical sleeve 1 is bent so as to be in the plane of the plate 2 and the strands of the mesh forming the sleeve 1 are welded flat on said plate.
- the plate 2 has at its outer periphery intended to receive the end of the sleeve 1 a thinned crown 2 '. Due to this thinned part 2 ′, the plate 2 acquires a flexibility which gives the cathode a degree of freedom along its axis.
- a metal element 6 elastically deformable in the form of a bellows.
- the element 6 consists of two annular elements 7 and 8.
- the two elements 7 and 8 are welded together at their internal periphery by spot welding or by argon welding and flare outwards so as to have a cross section substantially in the shape of a V.
- the elements 7 and 8 comprise at level of their outer peripheral edge, an annular flange 7 ′ and 8 ′ substantially perpendicular to the surface of the elements on which one of the plates 3 and the corresponding end of the sleeve 1 are welded respectively.
- the surface of the elements 7, 8 is provided with ribs 7 ", 8" to increase the possibilities of elastic deformation of the element 6.
- the annular elements 7 and 8 are made of a material such as tantalum and have a thickness chosen according to the dimension of the cathode which is between a few hundredths and a few tenths of a millimeter.
- a reinforcing ring 11 can be provided contz _ the flange 8 on which is welded one of the ends of the lattice sleeve 1.
- the element 6 can either be elongated or s '' crush according to the deformations of the cathode.
- the element 6 is constituted by a single annular element 9 whose internal peripheral edge is welded to the plate 2 or 3 which, in this case, has a diameter slightly greater than the internal diameter of the annular element.
- the element 9 comprises an annular flange 9 'on which the strands of the sleeve 1 are welded.
- an element 9 is provided between the plate 2 and the upper end of the sleeve 1 and a element 9 between the plate 3 and the lower end of the sleeve 1.
- the plates 2 and 3 are made of a rigid material such as molybdenum.
- the plates 2 and 3 can be made of a flexible material.
- the flexibility of the annular elements 7, 8 and 9 can be increased by providing in said annular elements radial slots 12 or other similar cutouts, as shown in FIG. 6.
- the bellows-shaped element 6 can be produced by a cylindrical element 10 folded in an accordion in its axial direction, one of the ends of the cylindrical element 10 being welded to the periphery of the plate 2 while the strands of the sleeve 1 are welded to the other end of the cylindrical element 10.
- the cathode is provided with a single bellows element 6 provided between the lower plate 3 and the corresponding end of the sleeve 1.
- the element 6 could be provided between the plate 2 and the upper end of the sleeve 1 or that two elements 6 could be used as in the embodiment of FIGS. 5 and 6.
